Hybrid picking isn't always to make things easier but to give you more softly sound

by using tip of your finger/s instead of the pick. :)

now, that was bad ass! I dont think you beat vova666 version, but music isnt about competition right, it was such a great cover man, nice tone, and certainly can tell that you enjoy playing it.

I totally agree, there is no competition in music.

But since you mention "beating" (which smells a lot like competition to me)

you should bare in mind that Vova666's version was played in few takes and even those

takes weren't played in real time but mimed, you can tell that by watching his picking hand

not picking when it should,

but it was great version nonetheless.

Well I would say to start with anything that ISN'T similar to Gilbert or such,

even listening to some popular music can give you nice ideas you can throw

into your own playing and to expand your vocabulary.

As for jazzy stuff you might wanna try something smooth like Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour etc.
