  • Great record and great sound too. What type of needle did you use? I use medium tone needles but have to turn up the volume considerately. I thought about using loud tone needles, but read on the internet that they cause damage to records.

  • Great song and I love the radiogram. I have a similar on (currently unrestored) which has the auto changer - one day i'll get to it. Good to know it will produce a lovely sound. Thanks for posting this.

  • My Lord!!! These little Edison Bell Radio records pack a PUNCH!!! This knocks Me out of My chair!! I wish I could give You 10 stars for this!

  • I am so sorry I didn't get to this sooner.

This song is so HAPPY and perfect!

  • Another brilliant example of Hudson's great skill, thank you for sharing!

  • It would be fun to see that photo!

They did have another factory in Huntingdon, but I am not sure whether that was still running by the 30s.

  • The Edison Bell studio was in the Peckham area of SE London, near the factory, but in a separate building. (At least for a period.) There were pictures of both buildings in a booklet called The History of Edison Bell...

  • Ah,i see.I have somewhere a 1930 "Soundwave" with a picture and little write up on the Cristmas dance for the Edison Bell Radio factory workers. They had something at Huntingdon too i think?

  • Excellent! The Harry Hudson Peckham Sound!

  • Peckham? Was Harry Hudson from there?

  • What kind of talking machine is that?.Looks like an electric pick-up out of a Victor Radiola

  • exelent song i love the old music really is teh best music of teh world, cos i cant explaind more cos my englis is bad but really is fantastish!!!!!!

  • January 6th 1931!, amazing 78 years to the very day of Harry Hudson making this recording!. As I suspected also, it is Eddie Gross-Bart giving us the vocal.

  • Great old phono. How do you find tubes, and such for it.........great recording and sound too......

  • I was very lucky that this worked on purchase and as yet have not had to replace anything. The sound is excellant, only the lovely base sound does not come through on the recording that you get when playing.Have you a replacement gram for your Grandmothers?

  • So good! You're right about that perfect Hudson sound; I really must get to some of the UK record fairs and find some of these 8" Radios! The sound from about 2:20 onwards is particularly distinctive, with that heavy rhythm - strikes me as very much in common with Billy Cotton and Percival Mackey records from this period.

  • i like the shot of your gramophone. it reminds me of one many year ago.
