The reason the dance break is so long is because Anything Goes is a revival from the 1930s. In early musical theatre, it was made up of a LOT of dancing. If you watch any of the old versions of musicals like Show Boat, Carousel, etc., they all have extremely long dance intervals. It was just the style.
As far as the awesomeness as it goes, the only explanation is the collaboration of Cole Porter and Sutton Foster.

I saw the show on 2/5/12 and can only say WOW! Sutton Foster was absolute perfection. It was jammed with dancing and singing to the point that I felt exhausted watching these amazing performers. The quintessential broadway experience.

I tried just the tap part and i was so tired when i finished, i cant even imagine how tired they must be after both tapping AND singing right after. these people are REALLY talented.
@nata3210 That routine truly is ballet and this is tap. True- it's all dancing but I still feel a tap routine this long temporarily just wipes out the legs and hips in a way that ballet doesn't. At least, that's the way I always felt.

She has a beautiful, Broadway voice. Perfect for musical theater. Just because she doesn't sing like some of the pop girls you hear on the radio doesn't mean she's bad. She's quite amazing, actually. And calling her untalented doesn't make you any more talented.

Ok I'll admit I wasn't the biggest fan of Sutton Foster for quite a while, but she's incredibly talented, and if you can't see that, it is COMPLETELY a matter of opinion, and it shows that you clearly don't know as much about musical theatre as you think you do.
You know, I was thinking how unfair it is to focus this whole thing on the Sutton-Patti thing. Yes, I think Sutton is unbeatable as Reno but, hey!, what about the rest of them?. They are great, Not uncommon for Broadway but I've seen terrible performers there too. These are fantastic. The whole company is just perfect for this silly and yet adorable show. And the music!. I think it's probably the most accomplished work by Porter. So, a big Hurray! for the whole revival!.

I saw this show in August and I went back to see it two days later. It was THAT good. I saw it in the 80's with Patti. Of corse I enjoyed it then, the music alone is fabulous, but this is just unbeatable. Sutton is the right Reno. Period. I'm in Barcelona now but I hope to go back to NY before the show closes so I can see it again. I want to have it in my memory forever.

I recently saw this live. Sutton is perfection. truly. She plays the part a thousand times better than LuPone could ever dream, she dances, she sings. I think every idiot on here who is grilling her must not have actually seen the show, and is jealous of her talent. She truly is a wonderful actress, the three standing ovations she recieved during the performance I attended proves that.

@michellyeponiny Part of the reason the entire company has easy steps is purely due to stamina. Just the dancing is over six minutes long. In case you've never danced for that extended amount of time, it takes almost as much energy out of you as running a half marathon. Pair that with vocals and it would be impossible to have technically difficult steps for a solid six minutes. Don't judge unless you've been on Broadway and can perform a similar routine.

She has a beautiful, Broadway voice. Perfect for musical theater. Just because she doesn't sing like some of the pop girls you hear on the radio doesn't mean she's bad. She's quite amazing, actually. And calling her untalented doesn't make you any more talented.

Ok I'll admit I wasn't the biggest fan of Sutton Foster for quite a while, but she's incredibly talented, and if you can't see that, it is COMPLETELY a matter of opinion, and it shows that you clearly don't know as much about musical theatre as you think you do.

You know, I was thinking how unfair it is to focus this whole thing on the Sutton-Patti thing. Yes, I think Sutton is unbeatable as Reno but, hey!, what about the rest of them?. They are great, Not uncommon for Broadway but I've seen terrible performers there too. These are fantastic. The whole company is just perfect for this silly and yet adorable show. And the music!. I think it's probably the most accomplished work by Porter. So, a big Hurray! for the whole revival!.

I saw this show in August and I went back to see it two days later. It was THAT good. I saw it in the 80's with Patti. Of corse I enjoyed it then, the music alone is fabulous, but this is just unbeatable. Sutton is the right Reno. Period. I'm in Barcelona now but I hope to go back to NY before the show closes so I can see it again. I want to have it in my memory forever.

4. Lea Michele has won 13 awards, none of them Tony's, but still prestigious awards. 3 are for Spring Awakening, a broadway musical, so she doesn't really need much autotuning, Glee only does it because ALL recordings do that.

I recently saw this live. Sutton is perfection. truly. She plays the part a thousand times better than LuPone could ever dream, she dances, she sings. I think every idiot on here who is grilling her must not have actually seen the show, and is jealous of her talent. She truly is a wonderful actress, the three standing ovations she recieved during the performance I attended proves that.

@michellyeponiny Part of the reason the entire company has easy steps is purely due to stamina. Just the dancing is over six minutes long. In case you've never danced for that extended amount of time, it takes almost as much energy out of you as running a half marathon. Pair that with vocals and it would be impossible to have technically difficult steps for a solid six minutes. Don't judge unless you've been on Broadway and can perform a similar routine.
