i agree, but given israeli/US rejectionist policy, there does not seem to be much of an alternative for the palestinians. israel has continually chosen expansion over peace, which has given the palestinians two choice: 1. submit to israel's demands and give up the palestinian nation along with the resistance, or 2. show that they will never give up and keep resisting in the hope of getting their legal borders recognized and their people respected in their own nation.

there has been plenty of coverage of the ongoing talks between olmert and abbass on al jazeera, including the fact that olmert does not want to lay out any concrete deal. its nothing more than photo ops to appease his popularity problems. there has also been coverage of the hamas takeover and the fatah protets in gaza. this is simply what is happening now. it is also kind of hard to call an agreement to talk about absolutely nothing by olmert as an "olive branch".

if you look at the hamas statement, it is a much more concrete proposal. hamas has declared that they do not intend to permenently occupy gaza and want to seek reunification; something israel seems incapable of doing in regards to the illeally occupied territories.

if israel and olmert came out and said that they would agree to this requirement of international law which everyone knows is vital to a two state solution, the palestinians would accept peace. this has been made clear time and time again and if the israelis finally recognized their international requirements, you could not even call this extending an "olive branch", it would be simply accepting the "olive branch" the UN and the Palestinians have been continually offering.

unless you consider israeli "olive branches" illegal annexation and death raids in gaza and the west bank, while failing to make any kind of legitimate peace offer for a viable two-state solution to abbass , there have been no israeli "olive branches" to report on. the israeli governement is considering their next aggression while increasing settler permanency. al jazeera should not report this as an "olive branch" to appease disgruntled critics.
