@myYTwashackedbyanoob They can be around $300-$400. I see them on German ebay once in awhile. It's hard to find them with the metal top cover sometimes. Also when looking for one, look for any post-war modifications. Sometimes the cloth cords have been replaced and some repairs that make them look different from the original.
I do have a few daggers and two swords but I don't like them as much as Ilike the equipment. I like the phones because they still work and there are so many different specialized parts and equipment for them. It's difficult to track down some of this stuff, which is the best part of collecting it.
FINALLY! A good impression on youtube, thank you sir. This video is now the best impression I have seen. you have put a great amount of time and research into it, im breathless
Who did have the best equipment of the whole war?I know Germany had the best tanks?but what was better or inferior to the allies?i know that quantity was prefered to quality where the Allies were concerned!
umberto44 yes i did know but thks anyway, didnt it start out as the mp40 then they developed it and ended up with stg44?correct me if iam wrong!was'nt the mg42 knicknamed Hitlers buzzsaw!or am i thinking of another.
redriot74, the Germans surely had better field equipment and WAY better weapons. I have WORN OUT 2 modern Colt 1911 pistols. Yet, my Luger and P-38 pistols shoot beautifully after years of use and are more accurate. My only complaint is that 9mm rounds are whimpy compared to 45acp. But I believe that a Luger is the finest semi-auto pistol ever made. They are getting more expensive to buy now though. I'm thinking of getting another one just because they are so awesome.
It's also called the "Phantom" device, I believe its used for tapping into enemy communication lines. I tried it out using some American field phones and it worked.
My Grandfather drove an American tank in this war and he told me that they came up to a town and a warehouse there was full of brand new pistols packed in grease (wood crates) thousands of crates. I asked if they took any, and he told me that he didn't but lots of guys did and shipped stuff home a little at a time. Some sold pistols to Pilots for big bucks back then..Imagine that stuff stashed away in a warehouse somewhere today..damn.
That is way cool. I just bought an old field telephone from a surplus store in Vancouver, BC that's in a wooden case. I want to hook two of them up just for fun. Do you know of any sites that has instructions for hooking them up or how to build a simple switchboard for them?
Also, I've been told that I might be able to just hook two wires up to each phone and it should be as simple as that, but what I'm not so sure of is well... Wouldn't it need a battery or some source of power? If so, how do you place it on the system?
These items look pretty much like those I had to use in the Bundeswehr in 90s, imagine that!
It wasn't made of wood and Bakelite but plastic, but the basic design seems to be the same.
You really can just hook up two of these, that's for sure. It's been a long time. All I can remember is that there's a compartment for a 1,5V battery in this case. Crank it up and the other phone or the operator switchboard rings. These switchboards were mainly used in field-HQs for the 'Kompanieführer'.
Nice switch board! Mine is missing al parts of the 10th switch =(
