I was unlucky enough to have witnessed the now infamous "bridge" ordeal back when we had real journalism. What I witnessed was truly a human abomination. Police and National Guard would not allow people to leave the area and cross the bridge and walk out of a devastated area. Brings population control and mass murder to a whole new level. I'm not surprised they shot and killed unarmed men. I'm glad that is getting justice.
The police will do what they think they can get away with. The important question is what made these police think they could get away with this. That is what needs to be corrected to reduce theses type of incidents. I hope they follow this story and inform of what the sentences are. I am guessing they will be nothing and these guys will be working on another police force somewhere else.

We place an enormous amount of responsibility on Police Officers to uphold law and order in this country and in return, besides decent pay (most Police Officers in this country can make 6 figures with overtime) they are given an enormous amount of latitude in dealing with criminals. Their word is taken over that of their suspects. And they are given a tremendous amount of training.

People in my neighborhood, where there was no power for weeks, was in a panic because of rumors that there was a huge gang of black people from New Orleans going into white suburban neighborhoods looting and killing people. If those cops believed any of the crazy rumors going on during Katrina then I'm not surprised by their actions.

For a community that has decided to restrict access to itself for the duration, yes that's exactly what you do. It's the idea of civil defense, where the authorites and civilians come together to support each other, where they're at; rather than having FEMA gestapo, with their wondernines and .22 squirt guns pointed at you, arriving to 'help' you, for your own good, whether one needs or desires it, or not. As for looters and rioters; I don't know much about them, except what to do with them.

I think what you are seeing is that people are getting really sick of how corrupt and evil the system has become. Unfortunately cops are that systems enforcers and until the good cops stand up against the bad instead of defending them you can expect allot more of the same and worse... I just hope it doesn't come down to armed conflict in the end. There is something really ugly in the wind these days and we may all be forced to choose a side before it's all over.

I just remembered that Geraldo Rivera did a story a few days when katrina hit. Geraldo and his crew were shot at when they tried to cross the bridge with some people.
I remember almost everything i hope Geraldo Rivera have those footage of him and his camera crew being shot at.

I was unlucky enough to have witnessed the now infamous "bridge" ordeal back when we had real journalism. What I witnessed was truly a human abomination. Police and National Guard would not allow people to leave the area and cross the bridge and walk out of a devastated area. Brings population control and mass murder to a whole new level. I'm not surprised they shot and killed unarmed men. I'm glad that is getting justice.

That is what needs to be corrected to reduce theses type of incidents. I hope they follow this story and inform of what the sentences are.
