@pluggedin2u Very well said, this music is punk, funk, disco, pop. Truly musics great times. Memories like yesterday of the radio always on and almost every tune was good, most considered classics today.
@superjules444 the sax player is Davey Payne, one of if not the only holdover from Dury's first band Kilburn and the High Roads. Payne also did the double sax solo in Rhythm Stick.
Great band. Norman Watt Roy is one of the great funk bass players, and Dury's lyrics are pure urban/punk poetry.
I get the feeling that Ian Dury/The Blockheads were sort of the British counterparts to Talking Heads. Aside from originating from the same era, they shared a lot of musical and thematic-cum-lyrical preoccupations. It's hard to imagine any modern act being a fraction as interesting as these great artists.
What a brilliant, funny, and incisive song. Have just become interested in this guy since watching the biopic. Great, unique voice and presence, to be sure.
unrecognised musical genius this geezeer check the sax solo, makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up! another artist that has made britain the best music producing nation EVER rule brittania!!
Great song - great artist. For some reason, Britain, not my own country, seemed to provide more reasons to be cheerful for me back in the 60s and 70s, as an American kid who loved rock and roll and eccentricity in equal measures: Ian Dury, John Otway, Keith Moon, Ray Davies, Roy Wood and pretty much everybody in the Bonzo Dog Band. Thanks to whoever posts these.

Reasons to be cheerful part 3..........A bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome, we can spare it - yellow socks
Too short to be haughty, too nutty to be naughty
Going on 40 - no electric shocks.
He was an absolute lyrical genius. Thank you so much Ian for giving me a reason to be cheerful! '¬)

Funky as F**K! Brilliant stuff. I have just re-discovered the joys of Ian and his band's brand of punk/funk, a rare combination.
