  • This anime changed my life.

  • Este anime es de esos que te ponen a pensar :D

  • Great show. Nuff sai-

  • este fue un gran anime T_T

  • This song is amazing!! I ♥ hikikomori!

  • @Eikichi94Onizuka Really? You love Hikikomoris? Why?

  • @Nincom69 I think it is because they tend to be 'fragile' and (forgive me for the assumption, I haven't seen the series so I don't know about the perspective) full of emotion hidden inside and therefore need all the more caring. I could be way off, nonetheless. :P

I'm thinking of watching this series, but I'm still in doubt: does it rely/focus on "moe" and "ecchi" or is it really a psychological adventure?

  • @Flumblee Its really hard to say. I also haven't seen the series(i think my complete collection delivers on Monday) but i've read the Manga. Sometimes its psychological but mixed with comedy. Thats hard to explain in english :P

But most of the time its just funny :D

  • @Flumblee

There are moeish hints and a bit of fanservice in this series, but they can't be defined a really relevant theme. They're present just in some episodes.

This series' plot focuses mainly on an hikkikomori's everyday life, even in its more miserable and sad sides and on the possibility to overcome this status.Surprisingly, characters interaction often involves comedy, too.

  • i recommended this to some of my friends who're into anime and they totally hated this show. oh well, their loss. this is a masterpiece.

  • Cant believe i missed so much anime in 2006, including this. Its.....a....CONSPIRACY!!!

  • @TheEquivalentXchange

We all missed this IN 2006...

  • god I relate so much to sato its scary.Glad to see I'm not the only one.

  • This anime, this song, the characters, they all mean so much to me, so very much, i can't explain but this anime has really made impact on me, it has open my eyes and motivated to change, and to find my misaki

  • I was so pissed when they took the trumpet out of the opening. WHY DID YOU TAKE MY TRUMPET???

  • Konbanwa Watashi wa Tyler desu

  • At first i didn't like this anime but gave it a shot and it's actually awesome

  • THIS IS A CONSPIRACY! EVERYTHING! CONSPIRACIES!!

  • My favorite part is the little ding at the end.

  • @dawkot1 ups sorry bad my, no ''was'' IS EPIC, a few days ago I watch this anime and I still am left with the desire to see it again from the beginning.

    Thing I will do :P

  • Amazing anime! You MUST watch this!

  • This opening...CONSPIRACY!

  • This anime was EPIC!

  • @Relampaghost why "was"?

  • read the manga.

  • @HolyZanto agreed

  • this was a good anime

  • lol, I like the orange colored "normal" people..

Talking and being social, exercising/walking, and stuff. Then it shows Sato and Misaki alone, and doing nothing pretty much.

I wonder what that angel like thing is symbolizing, nothing? It's just there?

Well anyways, SUCH a good anime, definitely one of my favorites!

  • Excellent song. At first it sounds sort of happy but when you read (listen ?) between the lines it doesn't sound all that happy anymore.

  • My favorite opening song.

  • The irony is that most of us aloners are spending more time alone to watch this anime...

    but it's sooooooo good T-T.

  • @MetaRothSephKnight So any of you hardcore hikikomoris want to get world first 60 in D3 and 80 in guild wars 2? North american servers!

  • Just finished the anime right now......S'aight

  • *Thumbs up to to year 2006* The year this anime was produced and when the story takes place.

  • Love this anime. This opening theme grew on me the more emotion NHK brought out of me.

  • Such a bangin anime...

I love it SO much, I've only watched about 6 episodes, but it's already my favorite anime I've ever seen. I've got pretty severe social anxiety, so yeah... Just leaving my house is a chore, and it's hard to talk to people. But this anime has really helped! It's shown me that I CAN get better if I really want to, Tatsuhiro is actually REALLY cool imo. And the thing that amazes me is, I'm just like him!

I can really relate to the characters! Great anime, great anime....

  • My Best Friend thought this show was a joke until episode 5, where he brought me in. This anime was good enough for me to watch About Twice in one sitting. This Anime will change your life if your suicidal, isolated, some form of aspergers, it will change you,

  • This show changed my life.

  • 3 years ago I watched this show and it brought me tears and laughs and it was the road I was heading on. Today I'm a happy guy, heading to the Navy hoping to become a Seal and have a girl who makes me very happy. I was just going through my youtube favorites and this was here :')

  • I'm sad.

  • i love this anime i stayd in my room 4 1day to watch it all its my fav

  • i would feel really disturbed if someone tried to take me out of my room :D i loved this anime much cuz it reflects my feelings

  • Anyone know any other animes similar to this? I enjoyed this one so much, i actually just finished it.

  • @cobian2006 its really hard to find anything this caliber, nhk was one of the bets animes out there and its extremly original

only similarity i can fidn is in a much clamer but much sadder show called clannad, the main character is a all around fuck up who has a terrible life but then he meets a girl named nagisa and things change.

k actually thats a lie his life is pretty shit throughout the serise but thats the one similarity i could find with this show, though clannad is much more calm

  • @cobian2006 try sayonara zetsubou sensei or bakemonogatari

  • that guy looks exactly like ben stiller

  • I watched the dubb, and both are good. I love how this anime doesn't shy away from discussing REAL problems that people have. I watched this anime about a few months ago, and loved every bit of it. I'll never forget this. After watching this anime, I've learned to laugh more and live my life in a more humorous manner.

  • Such a good anime, i enjoyed the realism, i just finished the last ep like 10 mins ago! humm. . .

  • This show showed me exactly how scary it is to go outside and how easy it is for people to judge someone, that's why I always tell everyone what the whole point of going outside is and what good is friends when you have video games and anime to keep you company, right?

  • @iilego08 Then you failed to really take in the message...

  • @Al0neStillAlive Did you really just say "2 deep 4 u"?

  • @lightmitian No I said "Then you failed to really take in the message.." Do you have a learning disability or something :D

  • @iilego08 honey, go outside, get a job, make some friends, have fun. staying in side with only games and anime....is not healthy for you AT ALL. you need human interaction

  • @iilego08 It's not too late to change your hikikomori ways!

  • @iilego08 haha, moderation is the key!

  • Possibly the most realistic portrayal of social anxiety I've seen on TV.

  • @jwicklun Not possibly,absolutely.

  • One of the best animes i've watched!

  • I watched this anime while my wife first decided that she hated me i can't watch this show because of all the feelings that come back when i try, but it did help make me feel better. I was hoping for some kind of ending that would show that life gets better and there really wasn't one it just ended with a message of "life is mediocre just try to endure it"

  • @garethmagis

slice-of-life rarely has much of a message.

but what i took from NHK was that life doesn't just GET better, you have to MAKE it better. sato and misaki were both miserable. but by working at it, and helping each other, they were happy.

maybe not a fairy tale ending, but those endings are hardly realistic.

  • Truly an anime with a meaningful story to tell!

  • A great anime that should've recived a bit more attention... but since Haruhi was so popular back in 2006, it technically overshadowed every single anime at that time...

  • @advanceshipper IKR!?

  • this, clannad, and aria are the best slice of lifes that will ever exist

  • Is it really that hard to step outside? I mean even i can admit that i'd rather stay inside and watch anime than go outside and live everyday life, talk to people, and have a job but its not that hard to say hi to someone

  • Why do people think this anime is realistic? Misaki is pretty much an angel descended from the heavens.

It's a great show, don't get me wrong, but it's biggest problem is that it is overly optimistic and not harsh enough- probably because it doesn't want to offend the sensibilites of its audience.

There are people out there who really are Hikikomori... but how many of them will have Misaki stopping at their door?

  • @ExileOnPrincesSt

This Anime is realistic enough, it doesn't mean every detail has to be considered into probability of x happening or y happening, of course many people want to help Hikkormori in realistic terms but in Satou's case it's not family but a girl.

  • @checkyay Probability? As far as I can see, Misaki is pretty much a deus ex machina; without her the story would not be possible (indeed she does trigger the whole story) and yet the circumstances behind her helping Satou are improbable to say the least.

The only parts of NHK that are 'realistic' are the themes. The story itself is complete fantasy. Considering the whole point of the story is hikikomori coming back to society, doesn't that render the whole thing rather pointless?

  • @ExileOnPrincesSt

You want to see a hikkormori on the computer 24/7 as a anime? Of course not. Not everything is real but there's enough realism in the show. Even if Misaki helping is not something very likely to happen at all, it probably does happen to the lucky few and that's what they made a story about, even if it isn't likely to happen doesn't mean it can't be realistic.

  • @ExileOnPrincesSt The theme itself, pacing of everyday events, and overall atmosphere is realistic. Minus the talking pudding, as that's an hallucination or overly active imagination. The unrealistic part being Misaki, is the flying wrench thrown in to make the story compelling.

  • @varnlestoff Oh, I can understand that she fills a role in the series, I just think it would have been better if they had done so in another, more realistic or believable way. Works of fiction do get some liberties, but works of satire like NHK are at their best when they are brutal and realistic. If it had showcased the end result of Hikikomori life, then it would have been far more poignant. Not only because it's more realistic, but more depressing too.

  • @ExileOnPrincesSt

you mean like the guy with the fantasy game that nearly starved to death?

  • show certainly covers alot of the sociological problems in japan right now. hell maybe even the world. sad days we live in now

  • my favourite anime :D

  • kind of wish they followed the manga more but the anime was good.

  • only hikikomoris can really understand this anime

  • @ntn777

everybody has darkdays where they don't feel they can face the world these people just can't turn that off

  • Wow. Misaki wears a larger variety of clothes in the opening then the actual show...

  • Remember that this is one series that you will remember forever, haunting your soul.

  • was a really good series

  • CONSPIRACY!

  • Fuking conspiration D:

  • >my face when the trumpet is gone halfway through the series

I missed that thing so much

  • @RodvyVideo yeah the trumpet makes the song

  • Welcome to the NHK>Catcher in the Rye.

  • Just ordered the box set :D

  • @HiddenTrees

Yeah if u like welcome to the NHK check out Denpa teki na Kanojo, main character is almost exactly like Satou was in High School, very underated OVA.

I couldnt go outside for like 3 days after watching this anime, so depressing. I was hoping for him to bang Hitomi Kashiwa (his senpai) That woulda made me feel better.

  • @Sandman09z sick bastard

  • @pikachu832

LOL forgive me for wanna him to get laid.

  • @Sandman09z he did get laid.

  • @Redjoker96

Not that the alleged time in highschool, Btw if u read the manga it leads u to believe he didnt (Serious fanboy comment im writting right now, sigh......).

  • i loved this..<3

  • Im gunna start watching this series tomorrow.

  • This anime reminded me alot of FLCL; though strange in execution, it deals with alot of life's harsh realities, especially for those not so better off. Whereas FLCL had to do with becoming a man and dealing with your emotions, NHK had to do with living a difficult adult life and what to do with your future. Strange how animes always pop up at particular times in my life

  • After exactly one month, I finally finished the series. I enjoyed it, but certain episodes seemed to drag on and on and some Satou's actions were just straight facepalm status. Ending was sort of a feel good ending.

  • i had hunter x hunter like the best anime of all.......before i saw this, this is the best anime i have ever seen, all the character are greats, in mi case i loved misaki.

  • Oh god I love this series

  • Perhaps the thing I enjoy the most is reading comments from others who so easily relate to this series, and the possibility of future success.

  • This anime saved me. It has helped me so much with my troubles from school and parents. I remember I would lie in my bed late at night, get on my phone, and just use this series as an escape from reality. It will always hold a special place in my heart.

  • @AudioAnime I felt the same way about anime in general when I was in High School so I can totally relate to that. I just finished re-watching Welcome to the NHK today and I have to say out of all the anime I own or have seen this one is one of the best and what makes it good is how we can relate to it because its rooted in the real world (sure there are some over the top comedy moments) but the show is rooted in reality and in fact sometimes I wonder if I'm not Sato myself in some ways.

  • Wish the had "that moment" in the last episode for finality.

  • when i watch this anime i see myself.. i am a hikkikomori

  • This is anime is so true. Pretty much the ultimate neckbeard anime. Hehehe. I related so easily to so many things in this show.

  • please!, i watched this and i loved it. but now i feel sad because i want to see something like this. another realistic good anime, if anyone have any recomendation please reply me :) .

oh, other good animes with good drama and serious stuff as good as this are "Itazura na kiss" and "clannad" watch them if you want some anime as good as this.

  • @ICharlyl Yeah, Itazura na kiss is a very very good anime. I loved it a lot. Definitely one worth watching, but it is more geared towards girls though. It had a the perfect ending, just what I wanted.

  • I might stay in a lot but that's because, where I live it's winter most of the time. Luckly Summer is right around the corner and I'll be out more often and even go on a cruise :D I'm a nerd who stays in a lot who wishs to get out more and trys to do so everyday :D (cuz man I'm out of shape lol)

  • I geuss the anime applies to me in a way because I'm a big otaku nerd. I love anime, manga, and I absolutely love video games. But I do go outside and hang out with friends regularly. I take martial arts and stuff.

But I get extremely anxious when I get near girls. I'm not gay or anything, but I get really frightened being near girls. They're like a different race of beings to me. I never have to courage to talk to them.

If the world was filled with girls only, I'd be too sacred to go out.

  • This series is infectious. Screw summer, I'm watching it now. I can't express how much I enjoyed this series.

  • THE best series I've ever stumbled upon. I'm so happy I found it. It's been over 3 years since I've watched it. I'm going to watch it again this summer.

  • this anime is actually pretty amazing, it made a big splash just like FLCL did

  • I love all this comments, i think this is the only place where people can understand how I feel, well it makes sense too because the whole NHK story was written by a hikikomori himself( Tatsuhiko Takimoto ) using his own experiences he wrote a novel a first person view that is much darker than the anime version. If you guys love this anime you should really support this guys work he is an inspiration to many people including me.

  • This anime is so good is should be a conspiracy!!!

  • BE GONE DIRTY WHORES!

  • Amazing show.

  • Man i loved this anime, and especially like the ending where everyone's problem gets solved .

  • OMG THIS ANIME FELT LIKE IT WAS ABOUT ME!!

    :'(

  • This anime is also very special to me. I dont think any other anime sums me up as well as Welcome to the NHK.

  • the late outro is better !

  • BTW, if anyone really liked the anime, the manga, IMO, is a lot more darker and just has a lot of stuff the anime kinda left out. But give the manga a read if you really were into this anime. I think the manga is about 43ish chapters long.

  • The meaning behind this opening and just the way it was put together was so well done. Probably one of the best anime openings I've ever seen.

  • Anime viewers can relate to this because theyre all autistic teenagers with no lives who dont get laid. This show is shit.

  • @Pcoar The show is about NEET's, if you go to school you're not really a NEET.

Please go away from here you're obviously not able to understand this..

  • @TheDragoviR Keep your autism under control, bud.

  • @Pcoar Teenagers go to school, why would you even draw that comparison, you obviously just watched 2 episodes then dropped it or something.

  • @TheDragoviR Because grown men don't watch cartoons.

  • @Pcoar Ok, You're unique.

  • @TheDragoviR And youre a cartoon watching manchild.

  • Comment removed

  • @Pcoar

then why did you even watch this video ?

just to tell how retarded anime viewers are ?

Yeah, THATS really much less retarded .

  • @Pcoar says the lifeless drunkard, oblivious to everything around him excluding beer and tits...

  • Lol yeah sometimes i like to be by myself too but not OD like dis dude. Good show, awesome theme song, its in my ipod now lol

  • that sax in the beginning was just so sexy. i am literally depressed that the "newer" intro excluded it

  • @RealBlkShinigami ARE YOU ME?! i feel just the same! i love the sax in the first opening.

  • i hate how they take out the trumpet thing later in the series

    its what made this song

  • I don't know why. But this song really hits me and makes me feel like I'm going miss this anime once i'm done

  • amazing

  • + everything

    - not that awesome, great, killingly funny, perverted, mindfucking and dumpish than the manga version of it

nhk is probably the best anime i know, no other film, series i ever watched/read could aroused that many emotions in me.

  • esta buenisimo este opening

  • Surprisingly sentimental series. The alliteration is unintentional.

  • help spread the word guys... i have commented on over one hundred vids now...

  • I loved this anime, only disappoints me a little that this anime does not really express what a person with the hikikomori syndrome really is

  • @NeXuzBakaneesan It's not a "syndrome" you faggot. Stop acting like the victim when you're not the victim.

  • @RinseNRepeat way to get offensive lil douchebag, I didn't literally mean it as a syndrome it just resembles a syndrome a lot except the social withdrawal of mostly developed by the person himself

  • please contribute your prayers and support to japan in this time of need.... its time we gave to back to a country that has given so much.

  • @bassgasmask You´re Right i´m still praying for all the Dead

  • Gonzo <3

  • This is anime is a microcosm of almost every anime viewers life, It gets to everyone because how real it is. Satou had so many redeemable qualities that you wonder y things went bad for him, and u want so bad for him to succeed because deep down u want so bad to succeed.

This anime is so damn real, it makes u think. I love animes like this because you can identify with the characters so much that it hurts

  • @Sandman09z you sir make a huge point.

  • @Artofbeauty

    thank you sir

  • Comment removed

  • @Sandman09z

    Hey pal,

I know you're trying to be nice but saying it's a microcosm of almost every anime viewers life is a real stretch. Not all anime viewers are even in the ballpark of what Satou had to go through you know. Just be careful, what you said was rather presumptous.

  • @waltlantz

I was speaking of a segment of the anime viewing community (i.e. mostly Otakus) I hang out with these guys (As well as ppl who dont watch anime) and yeah this show is spot on. Ok there are ppl who dont have any of the problems posted by this video, and if thats the case then hey thats great for u.

But every single person who i know that watches anime had to deal with one issue or another from this show. It just comes with the territory.

  • Loved the show but hate that the main guy is rescued by a cute girl. Just further set up for hikikomori folk to stay inside waiting for their messiah figure.

  • Does this have nudity or alot of violence? looking to avoid anime with it. Wanna watch because of subject matter.

  • @MrSeven13 Violence? haha no. There's quite a lot of nudity though but you don't see everything.

  • @Nuxhead Thanx for the info. Guess i'll go ahead with the order then.

  • @MrSeven13

There are parts where Satou has really perverted thoughts, lolol. I don't think it shows any girl nipples or private parts though.

  • @MrSeven13 lots of sexuality

  • @Thevideoclown yea, i'm like halfway through and it shows in about every episode.

  • La pieza que me hace falta

  • @dragonrojodemetal where did u get it =3=

    ;p

  • @dragonrojodemetal where di u get it =3=

    ;p

  • awsome show!! awsome intro!!!

  • Comment removed

  • remember watch this >u< bout 4-5 year ago

  • I finished to read the NHK novel minutes ago, is amazing!

I need to see this anime!

  • anyone know an anime kinda like this one?

  • @natterrtatterr how do you mean?

  • @boethiah12

He probably means one that deals with the same problems as this anime; hikikomori, loneliness, boredom, improvement of life.

At least that's what I saw in this anime. Probably my favorite anime ever, even though I've only watched about 6-7.

  • @danni13371 i dont know any off the top of my head. but there seem to be a fair amount with one or more of those themes. but probably not as good as this series.

  • ...the worst thing of being a hikikomori is being one and don't have internet...

  • I wish I had this as my ringtone...

  • one of the best shows in animax, i'm sad that it ended.

  • the very one slap in the face for all shut ins that were or still are.

    Brilliant Stuff
