  • I am a transitional western rite catholic entering the Byzantine Church.

Recently I went to a Roman cathedral for Mass, and it was more like a big town hall meeting.

When I went back to my new Byzantine parish, you felt, and knew something sacred was happening.

No wonder epopel are leaving the Roman Church in droves. Too bad they can't figure it out.

  • @Silverdaddy101 In what I have observed, there is a great need for Latin Rite Catholics and Catholics in general to return to the spiritual disciplines and heritage of the Church. Prayers, disciplines, private devotions, discipline in church, reverence, these things need to return to the Roman Catholic Church.

  • Eastern brothers:

Never, I warn you, NEVER lose your traditions. Never let anybody to instruct you about "liturgy".

Rome is erring, Rome has erred in opening gates to the spoiling of her Liturgy.

Currently the Western Church is absolutely disorganized in thi aspect: we have lost the sense of seriousness, the sense of devotion, the sense of the PRESENCE OF GOD IN THE LITURGY.

Rome does not follow the Sacrosanctum Concilium instructions.

  • @C2209w another tradionalist. SSPX IS NOT CATHOLIC, IT IS SCHISMATIC! Anyway, I actually attend a Melkite church, this is interesting

  • Your right dont lose your path like we did 40 years ago, our roman churches dont even look like churches half the time anymore, nor is the mass filled with the sacred as much as the old mass, it is still valid because it is under the guidence of the pope, but the new mass is full of human things and not as many divine things as the old mass when nothing was left to question about whos house the church was, and its full of profain music which is not wrong outside of church but inside is no no.

  • @manga12 I'm from Vancouver, Canada and we finally have a Parish that celebrates The Traditional Latin Mass, as well as all the Sacraments in Latin. Growing up I never even knew anything about this or anything different from the Novus Ordo ( a protestantized Mass designed for ecumenism with non-Catholics). I think there's a great desire among the faithful, especially the young, to be able to connect with the sacred. I hope there is more of a return Catholic tradition in the near future.

  • I would hope so too, but the new mass is harder, there is no doubt and people dont change old ways easy so it could be some time before it gets a sizable amount at every parish that know about the eternal mass of ages.

  • This is a beautiful video. I am an Orthodox Christian, and I pray for the day all Orthodox and Catholic churches can have communion, as we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, God bless!!!

  • @kayaburning

    I pray for This too.

I wish to go to Cerkv and tell I go to my church not to Orthodox, own Catholic or some else, just i go to church.

I pray for Old Catholics and Protestant to go back from blind roads.

  • "[The Eastern Schism] is not only the greatest, it is also the most superfluous evil in Christendom."1 This twofold evil is first the greatest, because it is one of the main reasons that Christian souls go to Hell, and it is the most superfluous because only a small concession has to be made by the Orthodox Schismatics to once again become part of the One True Church, and put themselves back on the road to salvation.

    Melanie, your sister in faith!

  • are you serious? they need to educate them on what the Catholic Church is.

I am of the Roman rite. they are being ridiculous, there needs to be more education about the church

  • Beautiful

  • Thank you for making this video!

  • This is a beautiful church - I have been there recently. Thank you for this lovely video!

  • Nice site to share the Greek Catholic faith. The Divine Liturgy is heaven on earth.

And whence the complaining below that the Church is pagan and lacking truth in the heart and belief in Jesus Christ? The Orthodox and Catholic Church knows these are most basic necessities, as expressed in the ancient creed "We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ." Orthodox means right belief. Pagan? I say Biblical Christian.

  • ... i now realize that it was the roman church that left the orthodox church...i am an orthodox christian of puerto-rican descent in new york city since 1987 ...ex-catholic(went to seminary, church musician, parish council president who could longer defend roman catholic dogmas (papal "infallabilty, doctrine of original sin to the catechumens under my care ..persons interested in orthodox christianity should read"the orthodox way" by (now archbishop) kaliistos ware...it transformed my life...

  • I believe perhaps some commentators on this, and other such videos, don't understand the difference of rites. There is no issue with the Eastern Rites, they are brethern, in union, and their rites should be respected. Please do not disrespect them. They do, as this video states, give hope that the West and East Churches can be one again. Pray for this union every day. That we may settle issue between the churches, pray we are made whole every day.

  • Nah, the truth comes from your heart, and believing that jesus died on the cross for your sins..

  • The cirecle behind is the sun god. Its all so screwed.. It can be simply but people try and destroy the truth . It sucks Im blessed . Thankyou father in heaven.

  • Circle behind what? How does this destroy the truth? The truth is Orthodoxy.

  • Why is this pagan? Do you have no knowledge or early Christian history?

  • I am very glad to find this video. My best wishes to Msgr. Father George N. Vida.

    Konstantin from Hungary.

  • I was raised for a few summers at Mt.Saint Macrina in Uniontown

  • to DARKCOVEN: Actually the Latinization is seen as a good thing to traditionalists. Since the Roman customs of worship (i.e. rosary, exposition, altar railings) were introduced gradually over the centuries, they were considrered organic and therefore worthy of veneration in either rite. Also the use of Slavonic is not promoted by Husar. Look up Fr. Basil Kovpak affiliatd with the SSPX.

  • God bless our Eastern Catholic brothers

  • This is a great video for us Roman Catholics to understand the Byzantines a little better....you know education about the Eastern Churches should be part of CCD and RCIA because not many Catholics know about them!

  • Where is the Iconostasis???

  • It was probably a victim of Latinization. I've seen other Byzantine Catholic churches that lack iconostases as well and only have the icons of the Theotokos and Pantokrator. Even though John Paul II encouraged the Eastern rites to return to their own unique liturgies, the Latin influence over the Eastern rites is still heavy.

  • Uh, no. As a member of Annunciation, I can tell you we don't have an iconostasis yet because we are still a work in progress. As we receive more funds, we will have an iconostasis. May we all be focused on healing the divisions that obviously still exist in the Church while encouraging in charity the growth of our Eastern traditions through constructive means so that we may all be one, as prayed for by our Lord and Saviour.

  • Fair enough. But I have been in Latinized Eastern Rite churches in the past, and they are very sad to behold.

  • I do agree. My favourite Eastern churches are those that have maintained their unique beauty rather than the ones that have been dumbed-down to appeal to more people in the western world. My tastes run more towards the good old-fashioned wood Russian Orthodox churches with tons of icons but they are hard to find in my part of the world.

  • its good to get a good understanding what eastern catholics are all about.

  • However, although Eastern Catholics were preserved from the onslaught of the Novus Ordo "liberalism", nevertheless, they surely weren't spared from heavy "latinization", due to there ties with the Latin Church. Eastern Catholics should try to rediscover their own apostolic identity and tradition, (like we traditional Roman Catholics are rediscovering the Traditional Latin Mass), while remaining faithful to the Successor of Peter.

Long live the Tridentine Mass, and Catholic Tradition!

  • As a traditional Catholic, I think that this Byzantine Catholic liturgy is at par with the Tridentine Latin rite of the Roman Catholic Church. Thank God Eastern Catholics were spared by God from the onslaught of cheese mitred bishops, "clown messes", and clowns pretending to be in persona Christi, trying to confect the Eucharist. Thank God this side of the Church's lung is still healthy...

  • Your video is very well done. I wanted to let you know that I am Latin Rite Catholic, but often times I attend The Annunciation of the Great Mother of God Byzantine Catholic Church in Homer Glen Illinois...I'm glad you understand the differences and our similarities we have! God Bless and may the Mother of God the Holy Theotokos protect you always!
