  • I love your guitar! Would u recommend this guitar for a beginner?

  • @kaithlyn123 It's a great guitar for anyone. The way that guitars are made by machines today, just about every guitar over $100 is a whole lot better than anything made before 1990, when so much was done by unskilled hands. It's a good guitar right off the rack, but it did need a neck adjustment - I like low action. Compared to a vintage ES-335, it plays better. I can't say about the recent 335s - I haven't played them - they're usually beyond my reach at the Guitar Center.

  • @ben2931 :these AS 73 .s handle feedback and high gain well and give you long sustaining notes and sounds like santana, Keef richards, Cream,BB King,Freddie King, Otis rush,Kenny Burrell,John Scofield , Larry Carlton and many more tones made by the greats. With SD p/ups it is as good as a real ES 335.I like my as 73 .It is a keeper.

  • Ibanez guitars are excellent instruments, well-made and well worth considerably more than for what they sell. I have an AFS75. The only gripe I have with it is the cutaway isn't as deep as I like. However, it's beautifully finished, comfortable to play and the intonation is better than on guitars that cost much more.

  • Is this guitar heavy wight or is it light weight?????

  • I like the princeton better without reverb,, it has higher head room and with a tubescreamer gets louder than the reverb model and has better tone

  • on a side note, i chose this one over the epiphone sheraton as i thought this guitar had a nicer feeling neck...the guitar i really wanted was the washburn hb35...it felt the best to me, and sounded the best...it was a little out of my budget at the time...it also seemed like the craftsmanship was superior on the hb35...

  • I have the AS103 and the Epi Dot (as well as ES335 and YAMAHA SA220). Easily the Ibaneze out perform the Epi in my humble opinion, The Ibby is just more solid, balanced and has superior craftsmanship! Love my Yammy the most tho!

  • I had this exact guitar along with a Les Paul....i had hoped it would sound more full...it actually sounded much like the les paul as this guitar is only a semi hollow body....i kept the les paul over this guitar....one thing i found is that when i played this guitar at higher volumes i got an annoying gust of wind from the "f" hole on my picking arm...also it tends to feedback a lot....sort of like an acoustic in that respect....it played great and sounded great, but i still like my LP more...

  • Anyone knows how does this guitar compare to the Les Paul model? Cause I want to buy one, but I own the LP standard, and by the videos I've checked, it sounds pretty close indeed, so I don't know if it's worthed.

  • nah, if youve got a les paul skip on this, grab like a tele or a strat. diversify your sound

  • Thanks for your reply , man. Very helpful. Yes, Tele sounds great, another world of tones.

Maybe a Casino would sound a bit different.

  • yeah casino is a bit more depth, almsot more old school. hey, john lennon used one, they must be good ;)

  • *sniffle* I miss my old 1997 Princeton 112

  • The pickups on these are definitely very balanced and perfectly usable. But after playing one, I picked up a 335 (which, I must mention, had terrible action and wasnt nearly as comfortable as the AS73) and realized how much the Ibanez pickups lacked in harmonic complexity. I'd imagine its a fantastic guitar for a steal with a pickup swap.

  • yeah im not a big fan of the pick ups. i want some mean 90's for it. but theyre arent terrible pickups.....they arent very good either

  • Yeah, they're just kinda boring sounding. Not bad, just could have an extra something.

  • exactly!

  • I have an AS73 that I put a set of WB Firewater pickup in and a set of Gibson pots along with a new switch and jack.

I then had a re-fret done with higher frets that are polished like glass by Ken Lesko in Cleveland, Ohio

See the Frankie Starr video on WB pickups - amazing.

I wouldn't trade this guitar even up for a new ES335 - and I've got a lot less into it than the Gibson would be worth.

I run it through a '66 vintage Deluxe Reverb - tonal bliss

  • I have an AS73 with Gotoh tuners, a bone nut with custom string spacing, Kent Armstrong H.B. sized p90s, gotoh 510 bridge and tailpiece, totally rewired with new electronics. Frets were just leveled and polished with the rest of the work. Its pretty much suited for me and I love the guitar. To me, if it had a spruce top to mellow it out a bit it the AS73 would be unbeatable.

  • I have the AS83 (same specs, better-looking). I changed the tuners for Sperzel locking ones and the pickups for Gibson Classic 57. Now it's a killer but without the upgrades I found it to get out of tune too easily and the pickups were quite poor to my ears

  • Could someone explain to me what tone controls are for the neck pick and the bridge pick up? i.e. the two controls toward the floor are ____ the two controls toward the ceiling are ____? Also my switch moves up and down (floor - ceiling and they control what pick up? I'm learning to play the Blues after a 40 year lay off. Do some of you have favorite settings for playing the blues on the AS73? Right now I'm only playing out of a Fender Frontman 25R. Need your help, Thanks

  • Go to the Ibanez website and look for the manual for your model. That should clear everything up.

  • switch is all the way up - neck PU.

    - all the way down - Bridge PU. middle is both

the two pots closest to the neck are the volume. the one on top is the neck PU and the bottom is the Bridge.

The two control pots on the right or closest to the bottom of the guitar are tone controls. Top - Neck / Bottom - Bridge

    switch in the middle position:

Set the Bridge PU Vol at 8 and it's tone at about 7 - 9

Set the Brdge PU VOL to 10 and tone to about 6-8.

    this is a good start

  • So nice.

  • beautiful sound

  • Hello. Do you have kept the original pickups on your guitar ? Very nice tones... Steph

  • lol are you wearing a robe?

    sweet.

  • I got one of these, was my first guitar, i put a seymore duncan jazz in the neck and a seymore duncan jc on bridge now it rivals gibson in the sense of sustain and tone, really great guitar.

  • Hey, I plan on buying one of these. Any bad points about it?

  • the bridge sounds weird. at least for me. maybe I need my bridge fixed. I dont know. otherwise, its a decent guitar. for a beginner guitar, its better than a lot others.

  • Absolutely no complaints about this guitar. I've had mine for over a year or so and I also own several others including Gibson, Fender, Jackson and Ibanez. My AS-73 is stunning in finish (sunburst), the neck is perfectly straight, it stays in tune well and intonnates easily and the range of tones you can get from the pickups is amazing. I can't believe these sell for around $300!! It is one of my all-time favorites, and I've been playing for 30+ years.

  • I have that guitar! I know its not the most expensive but I think it was great for 300 something. It looks beautiful I have the same wood tone on mine. The only problem is the cable input kept breaking through the wood cuz of people being rough with the input area. So they screwed in a metal plate to support the input area so it wouldnt crack any more. It looks better now, and hasnt budged. I love it!

  • This is a reply to '1950sRedAirliner': I own one too, and yes I also own several 'more expensive' guitars...but even my 1967 335 doesn't sound much "better" than the Ibanez (of course, mine's been completely rewired, a Tusq nut added, and put Seth Lover pups in it).

For what I paid for the AS-73 AND the pups AND the wiring job/nut (well under $500), I honestly don't think you can find a "better" tone machine for blues/jazz or roots rock...especailly played thru a low watt all-tube amp.

  • I have to agree with dwnhllr1959,i have the new version of this{as-83}and i put filtertron p\u's in it and there is nothing it cant do now.Rockabilly,jazz,metal...very verstile.Hands down money well spent.

  • hey man does that guitar have eny rattles mine does and i want to no does that effect the sound through that amp?

  • i have that guitar!

  • me too.

  • Ben,just for the info,I put Gretsch filtertrons in mine, slapped on a bigsby, and upgraded the pots, jack and switch. Its a keeper now.The filtertrons are pretty damn versatile.Love your little amp.

  • How is the sustain on those guitars with the standard pickups?

  • Depending on if you have a comp and gain pretty average in my opinion.

  • So you can afford a Princeton and not another hollow-body?

Don't get me wrong, I love the Ibanez', but there a lot of better guitars...

  • I have better guitars. The Ibanez was an impulse buy and new to the group.

  • Hi, I love the tone! What is the speaker?

  • Standard Fender - I think they get it from Jensen.

  • @ben2931 i have the same amp with a jensen in it and it sounds great you should definitely switch it

  • hi, i have this exact same guitar but it always creates a buzz or humming sound(not feedback) through my amp- a TB100...does anyone have any suggestions as to what this may be?? Thanks

  • you probably need to go to a guitar teacher or someone who can fix them- mine needed it and the man who fixed my guitar just twisted the inside- maybe its strings.

  • Nice playing and nice tone. I like your music room. It looks like a comfortable place to relax, kick back and play some jazz and blues.

  • i have an amp that i think is just like that one! does yours have tremolo? mines a 1968 one.

  • Yes, it has tremolo (aka vibrato). Mesa Boogie based their early designs on modified Princeton.

  • I have that guitar's big brother, the AS103 NT. Lovely guitar. Your's sounds nice!

  • it handles distortion well. though, the pickups aren't very 'hot'

  • i have one of these guitars. best guitar ive ever baught for 300 dollars i play it thru a fender hot rod deville and it sounds amazing!

  • can you put another vid on this guitar, i want to see how it handles some distortion.

  • that amp sounds great. Nice and bright

  • i got one of those guitars yesterday in trans red

  • by the way, I found a lot of Princeton 112 and plus models but they were only 65 watts or less so I'm pretty much stumped

  • Silverface(like this one) and black face Princetons were only 12-18 watts. Keep in mind that 12 watts in a tube amp is much louder than 12 watts in a solid state amp.

  • That's right. This amp on 10 will keep up with any drummer in a small room. It's LOUD. I don't turn it up past 3-4 at home.

  • You can drive a half stack with 12 watts just fine, wilo65...you can drive a half stack with one watt too. One watt is 1/3 as loud as 50watts. 12 watts is 65% as loud as 50 watts. Don't buy into the big watt marketing hype.

  • Yes but there IS truth to "overhead"...

  • I was trying to find some info on my own amp. I got it off of some guy and he couldn't really tell me anything. It kind of looks like yours, silver face, fender, 100 watt. It says "Princeton 112" on the front which I searched on google and I couldn't seem to find the exact model. Just wondering if you had an opinion on it?

  • You made it, you made me want to buy those guitar (well I though I will bought an epiphone dot). Thanks

  • I was about to buy an Epiphone dot last week for $420.00, regularly $665.00 but I found out about an Ibanez Artcore AF75 hollowbody for the same price. It's got an ACH2 Bridge Pickup and a really nice look. You should atleast check it out.

  • I liked it so much that I went out and bought a silver face Princeton Reverb. It's nice, but not nearly as crystal clear as the non-reverb.

  • Oh dear! That amp rings like a god damn fucking bell. I have to get ono of those!!!

  • can i have your robe?

  • It's vintage

  • haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • nice guitar..i want one like that maybe a AS83
