There is, in fact [ to complicate searches further! ,-) ] yet another song called 'The Singer', composed by Michael Head. It's very old. It's SO beautiful to the ear. It's recently been sung by Lesley Garrett (& is no doubt also to be found uploaded here at YT!)
BTW, the Walter Marks composition, as sung by L.Minelli, is found if u srch for "Liza Minnelli - THE SINGER" (duration 2m39s).
I love this song you have upldd. I had never heard of it b4! :-)
...and you are so right about song titles i took for granted they were referring to the same song in this case since the lyrics are of standard and so detailed.
Also - this song was co-written by 5D singer Lamont McLemore (sorry if I spell it wrong), who rarely got a lead solo. Nobody ever comments on that. I'd like to know the back story of the song. lt has a pretty unconventional structure, like it was a poem put to music. I pulled it out last night and got all music geek about it.
The singer is as powerful a song as it was many years ago when I first heard it. There seems to have been era when pop / R&B singers were very distinct from one another.
Thanks for posting
