  • No previous art traing and it shows. That painting would have never even got a passing grade in my art classes.

  • headcomic, I am an artist. I have had no formal training. I started as soon as I learned to hold a crayon. Today my work is extreme realism. I feel as though I owe it to my canvas or paper for whatever medium. I can use all mediums, to give every square inch my personal attention. I mostly do portraits on commision, some landscapes, but I end up keeping my best work. Why is my work cheap and a painting of nothing done in 20 minuets bring in 1000's

  • headcomic, can you do realism? Do you think you should do well in realism before you start abstract!

  • this is fantastic.

what school do you go to ?

    and how old are you?

  • @smoothcriminial I am a teacher at High Tech High Chula Vista in Southern California and I am 27 years old. :)

  • ha!

  • i know two of my favourite bands - the red paintings and the dresden dolls - are really into audience participation at their shows, they love stuff like this. you should try and get in touch with them on myspace or something, i think they'd really like your idea.

  • Dresden dolls are awesome, and I will check out the other band... Thanks for the advice :)

    Your song is interesting, heheh.

  • Very Cool! Nice to see an artist at work. Love the painting. Music goes well with what you are doing. What type of paints are you using?

  • I used regular dick blick painting acyrlics and some really cheap cans of latex acrylic house paints I got at the mistake section of Home Depot.

I tell the classes I work with that the trick to painting or illustrating is making a hundred mistakes and working your hardest to make them look intentional. :) This is by no means actual abstraction, but I am classically a comic book artist and after doing abstraction with my students I did this as a way to blend the two ideas. blah blah blah :)

  • Very Cool! Love to see an artist at work. When u started out I did not think it would turn it much but it is great.

  • Thanks to everyone that has been watching, I have gotten like 100 views in the last 24 hours. Especially thanks to punkandbarbies who has been getting the word out to local artists in beantown. You rule!
