Great song and a great rendition.Makes me want to chuck my my harps away!I must pack up smoking cuz i get puffed out too easily !I also have probs securing the harps to the brace .They seem to move easily.Maybe im not placing them in properly? Thanks again for inspirational stuff.Sam
Thanks for the advice Jon, My music theory is a bit limited but, hopefully, what I'm trying to do. I'm talking about the 1st group of 4 notes, then the next 5 notes.
Having the vid really helps. It'd be so much easier for me, as a beginner, to play the last note of the first group as a blow 3, but it's clear from the vid that you play a draw 2(the blues player's favourite).
I'll work on & let you know how it goes.
Love your sound & interpretation of this great song.
Even though we all teach 12 bar blues progression, most great blues songs, and pop, are not in that format. Rather than ALWAYS trying to guess the next chord, it is better to develop your ear so you can play the song instead of the chord progression.
That is what passes for controversy in the harp world. Scary, huh?
Yeah, what we were talking about is training, knowing and performing in terms of phrases, instead of notes. In practice (and play)You smooth each phrase out so it becomes a flowing seamless effortless event. Not all notes have equal stress. They are essential, but only because they are part of a whole. Those notes are stepping stones. Other notes are your targets. You may play them longer louder, or not. Once each phrase is complete, there is often a pause for breathing.
Jon, I have always enjoyed your musical interpretations. You have a style all your own.

Awesome & totally inspiring. Mastered the first two bars - now for the rest.
Thanks very much Jon.

Work on it phrase by phrase, so that each phrase becomes a unit. If you think note by note, it's much harder.

Nice interpretation Jon. A very sweet sound and a good example of 2nd position as an alternative to the 1-4-5 blues progression.

Really enjoyed that Jon,thanks.Taking me forever to get that clear tuneful tone, everything i play seems flat and clunky.Cannot get musical.

Thank you BB. It didn't want it to be mournful,
but I didn't want it to be flip and too jazzy either. Hopefully the last go-around doesn't dissipate the emotion of the beginning.
