I didn't realize this was Allison Krause for the longest time. A friend of mine was playing a bunch of Natalie MacMaster songs and I heard this. Still love this song anyway haha
My dad, is a big fan of her. I've loved this song for a long time, but I only ever knew the chorus. I finally read all of them, and I wish I would have sooner. Like the person below me said, it's very healing....and very very powerful. Thank You for this masterpiece Alison...
@WishfulFancy This song gets me as well.....a great many hurts I have endured, and I just keep thinking the same thing as I hear with this song.. Just get me through December. Many tears have I cried. Crocodile ones at that. Although, for me the tears still flow.
Wondefull version .great voice and arrangment. This is based on a tune written by the Grandfather of strathspeys, Niel Gow, Its called "Niel Gows Lament for the death of his second wife". Reputed that Robert Burns met him and had a tune with him when he was on his highland tour. He was a contemporary of the other great Scots composer William Marshall. Great version of a wonderful old lament.
absolutely LOVE the melody in the first 21 seconds of this song...wish it could be a full song of just the instruments with this melody, so calming and beautiful...even heavenly
Just get me through December A promise I'll remember Get me through December So I can start again No divine purpose brings freedom from sin And peace is a gift that must come from within I've looked for the love that will bring me to rest Feeding this hunger beating strong in my chest Feeding this hunger beating strong in my chest Get me through December A promise I'll remember Get me through December So I can start again
this song means so much to me :') listen to it over an over.. just get me through december so i can start again :/
broke up with my boyfriend a few weeks ago and found out that he likes my best friend, dont even know what to do anymore. i love him and i shouldnt have broke up with him :| but i just want another chance. i cant stop thinking about when me and him were together and i hate the thought of not feeling that again, what can i do? |:
She has one of the sweetest, clearest, most gorgeous voices I've ever heard, and this song is wonderful. I'll need to remember to listen to this the next time I'm facing emotional turmoil.
I have a rendition of this song on my page, and I think some of you might enjoy it. It's a different, acoustic take on the song. Happy New Year! ~Anna
Wow, this is a pretty version. I may have to acquire this album. .. Though I was actually looking for the Version Johnny Coppin did on Keep The Flame (2004) anyone seen it about?
It is on Natalie MacMasters "In My Hands" CD - and the tune is an old Scottish melody called "Neil Gow's Lament on the Death of His Second Wife". Beautiful.
This song and her voice...it makes me feel like I can make progress, face another day of my pilgrim's path. Beautiful...I listen to it often but mostly when I need a pick me up.

My theatre teacher used this song for a movement exercise- and I'll tell you, by the last day, not a dry eye could be seen hearing this song. This is one of those rare ones that does that.
This song reminds me of my friend Meredith. She passed on in December of 2007 from ovarian cancer. She was only 27 years old. My heart grieves for the loss her family endured everytime I hear this.
A beautiful song-- I can play this on the fiddle, inspired by Natalie MacMaster (check out her videos!)--who happens to be the fiddler playing with Alison here.

It's the violins at 4:46, not a bag pipe. Although I think a bagpipe does come in later for the long deep sounds.

How pale is the sky that brings forth the rain
As the changing of seasons prepares me again
For the long bitter nights and the wild winter's day
My heart has grown cold my love stored away
My heart has grown cold my love stored away
I've been to the mountain left my tracks in the snow
Where souls have been lost and the walking wounded go
I've taken the pain no girl should endure
Faith can move mountains of that I am sure
But faith can move mountains of that I am sure
