I made this.... It was soooo good it really was like I could not stop eating. I ate it all myself. Thank you Runny-san for this awesome recipe!! Its so good! Probably going to make me really fat if I keep eating it, but its sooooo good!
today I made tanuki onigiri for the first time. I made it exactly as you showed in your video. It was so easy! It made 5 triangle onigiri and my daughter was SO surprised to find it when I brought her home from school ( she is 13).
we ate them right away, we couldnt wait for dinner! I ate two of them and my daughter ate three. You are so right about tanuki onigiri- once you try a bite, you cant stop eating it! Thank you so much for such an easy delicious recipe!!! Keep up the good work! :)
What kind of rice is it. Like, I just tried doing a onigiri with the rice i had at home. But it wasn't "sticky" enough and so the onigiri just crumbled up. I guess I have to use the "sticky" rice or maybe some other ingrediens to make it stick together? xD
@stoffni short grain rice is usually much stickier than long grain...though most markets/grocery stores will have sushi rice in the international isle. :)
@TheChambers143 stuff them with anything you like! I've made dessert onigiri by using coconut milk in the rice, and stuffing it with mango! Delicious!
konichiwa onichang! hi im gian from the Philippines, just a quick question, What did you use for you vinegar? is that Mirin? and what is Tsyu? is it a japanese sake? I dont know if i can buy that here, and do u know satsumaage??? i dont know if i spelled it right tho' Thats my favorit! ^_^ hope u can help me out ne! Arigatou! Kyoutskite ne!
Runny, good instructions thank you for being so clear but i must ask, im not familier with the name you used for the green stuff you chopped up to go into the mixture is that a different version of chives?. When i looked up what the name was all i found was lore on a shapeshifter.. damn internet lol. please let me know i want to make it soon ^^
Hi runnyrunny999, I tried your Onigiri recipe and it tasted awesome but may I ask, how come the rice (Japanese) doesn't sticks? I used all my strength to press and shape but after one bite, everything falls apart. Hope to hear from you soon~ Cheers! Lyn, Singapore (^^)
Did you repeately rinse the rice? Don't over-rinse the rice as this will wash out all the starch and it won't be sticky. Don't use jasmine rice but short grain rice like the one used in sushi.
@xXJennyRulezXx Eh, why did she refuse? She doesn't like Japanese food? To be honest, nor does my dad, but we made him buy ingredients so we could make sushi and onigiri anyway xD
i made this last night. easy to prep and was uber delish! was impressed with the agedama, prepped it in the afternoon and stayed crunchy for hours. family loved it.. definitely a keeper. thanks runnyrunny!
@darkendivide oh yes. they're usually found in the lane where they place the bottle of sauces. usually next to the soy sauces. at least in my area that's where they place the mentsuyu. more than likely they are sold in asian markets. i find that tsuyu is milder than soy sauce.
I think i've watched this video like a thousand times! at least one time a day:P looks soooooo good! and today i've decided to make it. although i dont have the correct ingredients.. because i live in sweden, not in japan or in USA or whatever :P wish me luck!
********************if you don't have tsuyu, I would suggest using half a tablespoon of water with half a tablespoon of soy sauce. You can even use fish sauce if you want. many people would opt for one tablespoon of soy sauce but that would be way too salty to swallow.
oh god i am so hungry now...
