I was going to go there when i was vactionaing with my family when i was 9 and i was freaking out but we didnt get to because of the fog that was around. it was so thick
i was told the smokies got their name from the cherokee indians who when they came to the area called the place blue smoke mtns or something to that effect because the mtns looked blue and smoky
@southsidr706 Well, the Cherokee use to live in the Smokies. It was about the center of their territory. I think you are confusing two different things however. The blue you are referring to isn't exactly the color of the smoke, it's the color of the ridges. The only reason the smoke would sometimes look blue is because of the smoke laying on top of the ridges, giving the appearance of blue smoke. The smokies are a part of a chain people call the Blue Ridge Mountains.
i watched a video at sugarlands visitor center that says those trees are actually a certain kind of tree that is found only in the smokies and no where else...I was up there last week
@connerconner Snow? No snow at all in this video...if it was snowing up there most of the place would be closed. I know because I live next to the mountains.
You could play the bagpipes up there.

@southsidr706 the trees are fraizer firs killed by a non native insect called the balsam wooly adelgid

The trees are dead because insects killed them and the fumes from your car getting there didn't help any either. lol.

The "fog" that hangs over the smokies is a mist that rises from the lush vegetation. It gives it that "smoky" look, and hence the name.
