Whatever anyone thinks, I like Smiley Smile very much and always have. I didn't like the 2004 'Smile' release as Brian's vocals sound so old, naturally and understandably. The fact is that whatever continues to be served up as the 'definitive' 'Smile', we can NEVER know for sure exactly what it WOULD have been like IF Brian had decided conclusively how it would be finished and released BACK THEN.
The 4+ minute version of Gettin' Hungry is not by the Beach Boys. That version is by Mike Love and a side band named Celebration from 1978. The single version of Gettin' Hungry by the Beach Boys was released on Aug 28th, 1967 (2:27).
Also, Paul was not chewing celery on this version of Vegetables. That is on the original SMiLE version from 1966.
I absolutely love this and also Brian's Smile release. I heard that they are re-releasing this on vinyl completely remastered. There has been some promos going around. One is in the new Mojo magazine 60's issue from last month I believe. I agree with you that people are opening their ears up more nowadays compared to when it was released. I think Brian was so far ahead of his time that it takes a lot of people time to catch up. Loved your review~
Excellent!
