Oh I know whom she is...i've loved her work for many years, and IMHO, her performance as Nettie is nothing short of brilliant..and my apologies..according to Wikipedia..she is most certainly alive..i am sorry for my mistake....thank you for your clarification..
@Sugarbehr1967 The incomparable coloratura opera singer Clara Mae Turner and actress is the actress who played the role of Nettie in this movie version of Carousel. This movie which was filmed in 1956 was the only movie she appeared in although she remained active in the opera world many years after this movie was released..
Has there ever been a song thats so emotive. It is so beautifull it makes me cry before the tune starts. W¡hatever age you are this tune is so strong and true. It is about strength and quality of personality. We all need to be strong sometimes.
@piskapiskapiska It's a long story - It is not the original soundtrack you're hearing - YOUTUBE advised me that INGROOVES owns the copyright to the soundtrack and blocked the video from being viewed in the US. I used another version of the song by the same actress, Claramae Turner to get around the problem. My original video with the original soundtrack is still viewable outside theiUS. Please refer to the description box for the link to this video. Thanks,
@helencheddar -- No! Marian Anderson qualified as a coloratura (and nothing to do with her color, just her vocal range), but not Shirley Jones, who was more the soprano. Anderson could hit solid low notes that Shirley could never get close to. I attended concerts of Marian Anderson in the forties.

@romympanlilio no wait wasn't she a coloratura soprano?
helencheddar 7 months ago
@helencheddar Her biography classifies her as a "rare true" contralto.
