  • do you have a idea on how to adjust the idle on a old (1960-1980) briggs 5 hp?

  • @labrieexpert2000 If the fuel/air mixture screw is adjusted properly, you just adjust the small flathead screw on the throttle lever on the carb

  • I found one of these but it's rusty and seized. Is it worth fixing?

  • @MrMoto1998 If you are thinking about earning money, it's not worth it. At least it's hard to earn money on it, but if you want to learn about engines and/or restore a classic engine, it's worth it.

  • you should have the block machined and bored

  • Would have been a good video and I might even have subbed if it hadn't had the stupid music.

  • Fix the bearings!

  • nice video, but geez, I want to hear the engine, not your favorite music.

  • @richardwernst you don't hear the music at all when the engine starts.

  • what is that stuff you poured in the carb.?

  • That's a briggs for you! They'll go ti'll they can't go no more

  • how did you start it with out the cord sliding off?.... every time I try Wraping a cord around it all ways slide off... And I like the video also :)

  • i have one of those alko lawnmowers

  • looks like it does better to the galon on petrol then oil lol

  • What exactly did it do at the airport?

  • @slowride55 I don't know exactly, the guy I got it from said he got it from a small airport in the 70s.

  • @kiarra00 who knows then. maybe a pump of some sort

  • @kiarra00

It might have been used on walk-behind tow bars for small airplanes. I've seen a couple of them before.

  • nice motor

  • Re-bore it and put in an over-sized ring set and it should start and run like its new, and it should stop the smoke problem.

  • Hey man I've seen 'em worse than that. It should still be able to do some

work yet. Remember the movie "Uncle Buck"? Well I've seen these that

put out as much smoke as his car and still ran!

  • Nice engine! Definately worn out lol. I have a model 14 that is also Hard to start. but it runs good. I Don't know why it starts so bad. I Took the carb of a 1 or 2 pull engine.

  • whats the song....good stuff

  • Can we not have the hick music? Nice engine but bleh music in the first half of the video.

  • @TestECull the music is not playing while the engine is running, and this is how i made the video, if you don't like it, then don't watch it

  • @TestECull i agree

  • @TestECull Good Tunes

  • Good tunes

  • @fogt1430 Not really.

  • @TestECull fuck you

  • @fogt1430 Nice chap you are, heh.

  • Music ruined it. Good engine though

  • is it a model 9? thats my guess a model 8 is just a touch under 3hp so i am guessing that because this has a small 2 piece flowjet and you say its approx 3-4hp it must be a 9cu in

  • @1944johndeerel yes it's a model 9 (150cc)

  • @kiarra00 cool! i had my 1974 16hp briggs running last night. it starts in one or 2 pulls. i was using it to belt start a stubborn old kohler i have. its a tired little kohler and its hard starting sometimes. the only problem i have with my briggs right now is the float isnt shutting off the fuel all the way right now and if floods the carb and dripps if you leave the fuel on. and the bearings are kinda loud because it satoutside for years before i bought it. its a 32 cubic inch single cyl

  • At 2:15 this got some RYTHM! haha, love it

  • Sounds allright once running! I have some old engines too, my too small engines being from '54-'54 and some of the bigger ones are 1940's, the wear on some of the beariings is incredible but they still run well, as does your nice old briggs.

  • OLDTIMER !!!

  • i think if you took the piston out and gave the cylinder a de-glazing with a hone and replaced the rings you would be ok for quite a while then

  • thats a very worn motor u should take the gas out clean it up restor it and a while later sell it to and pawn shop

  • Remove the music so we can hear the engine better!

  • dude briggs never die! the best engines in the world

  • @Rarrin9378 i can assure you that they will go on for a very long time, but they blow eventually

  • Sweet Vid. dude! Everyone check out my videos at HudsonvilleGarage.

  • some see a tired old engine I see an opportunity, it even looks good to boot, perfect rebuild opportunity

  • You should hone out the cylinder, change the rings and bearings and restore her! Antique Briggs here, it would be worth it!

  • @Genners111 - Ya, Re-bore and over-sized ring kit.

  • these old engine never die. I'm not even kidding you. The new ones you are lucky to MABEY get 10 years out of them. But the old ones just keep on running !!!

  • @1987Briggs3hp

they're more likely to go to hell in 6 years nowadays! I'm seeing a lot of 5 and 6 year old stuff thrown away.

  • Awesome engine to rebuild. You really should consider rebuilding!

  • You don't know anything about this engine, so don't call me a dickhead!

Of course I know the engine is worn out, I checked the cylinder and it was really worn and the crank bearing has lots of slack!

  • that dude that rote u is a dumbass lol

    it even sounds worn

wond engines always run smooth forsome reason

  • Just like the moron that called me an idiot for trying to get my Chev 350 running when I knew it had a bad bottom end. Folks can be real douches behind a monitor.

  • ur a dumbass thats what

  • @MRkallek91 You can't hear the crank flopping back and forth, you fucking moron?

  • @MRkallek91 he can run it how he likes u prick

  • @sasukeuchihayou

hhhahhhah what a foolish ass comment!

    HHHAHHa

  • @MRkallek91 if u have time to laugh then u can go over how many comments you made about this vid. he can do what he wants with it and its immature of you to criticize how he runs it. maybe you should read the description about the engine and that he states that he knows its worn out. just laughing at my comments is a 5 year olds excuse to wind people up. get a life and stop being mean to people

  • @MRkallek91 sounds like your the dickhead

  • @MRkallek91 Fuck face!

  • cant stop watching this video! the engine is just so awesome!

  • clean that carb, for an engine that old and rare ,it has some major potental.

  • put her in a mini bike and let her work will the death

  • know wonder it wont start up easy because you keep on messing with the air screw and it wont rev up properly so it dies

  • Love them "Old School" starters.......

  • i just saw an engine like that on ebay! except its part of a generator and its green

  • runs pretty good for being woren out, I like them old briggs&strattons they'll run un till the day they dye, as in no compression left. Too bad they don't make them like they used to.

  • loogks lie it was from a lawn mower

  • I swear to God those engines never die out!

  • thats a nice motor it wants to keep living btw whats the mower in the backround?

  • sounds a lil bit tired

  • no shit sherlock.

  • those are very good motors briggs & strattons

  • she definetly has potential... if i were u i would strip her down give it a big clean out a paint and a new exhaust

  • wow i have that same engine and its yellow to i had no idea it was that old lol

  • like my grampa. 55 and a heavy smoker.

  • With a bit of good ol' TLC that engine can run like brand new. Hope you can refurbish it. Sounds like it wants to keep living.

  • hey what song is that???

u going to rebuild that engine?

  • the song is called "amos moses"

I might rebuid it some day, if I find some parts for it.

  • here is a tip: put lots of wd-40 on bottom dead center about half full and leave it for 2 to 3 days and run it for 2 min and change the oil and it should not smoke anymore i tried it and it works it helps to pop the rings out

  • i just got a 1954 B&S all it needed was a push rod for the points contacts i used a twig off a tree runs great now it came off a lawn mower its a horizontal shaft engine it supposedly has 1hp but i know for a fact it has tons of torq i ran some big stuff of it cant stall it to easy it was missing the throttle valve so i just dropped a socket in the hole it runs fine for fixed throttle

  • she needs new rings and head gasket maby even valve stems

  • Not bad for a tired old engine.

  • shes a smoker! what was it used for at the airport

  • It was used to drive some kind of transport belt or something i think, i´m not sure.

  • haha nice, the old updraft carb. i had one on my go cart, i wouldn't recommend running a updraft on one, it doesn't work to well.

  • Gotta love the old B&S engines! very reliable. Like my 2 horsepower that had 3 inches of snow in it this morning, i brushed off the carb and it started 2 pullls! I didn't even clean the snow off the head around the spark plug. It has no air cleaner btw.

  • what do you use to put music in your vids?

  • radio in the background. lol

  • what is that song called? thnx

  • K rose: jerry reed-amos moses i think.

  • Im not sure what your experience is on engines but you hold the throttle open @ high end normal operation, not over rev, then adjust the high speed needle ti'll it runs smooth then let idle and adjust the idle needle (if needed) intell the engine runs smooth. Then you have the crack screw adjustment on the throttle shaft if you have to open the throttle butterfly just a bit to keep it at normal idle. If you need parts i know of someone that has parts. feel free to email me. Have a good'n :0)

  • nice! good to see old briggs running. check out my video of a my 6s

  • No, it has plain bearings (steel to alloy).

It was used to drive some kind of transport belt or something i think, i´m not sure.

    Thanks for your comment man!

  • i have an 8 hp briggs just like that one on a tractor that im restoring, engine needs a new governor because the flyweights on the one it has are cracked

  • ha you think thats hard to start, our old 1963 Briggs & Stratton 10HP snowblower takes over 20min of pulling befor it srarts, awesome vid

  • cool
