Job added to possible list of jobs for after I graduate college: librarian. it was sorta added at the other book conference video with all of the free books, but, I just began to speculate now.
We know you love librarians, John. You married one.
Note: curator is like librarian, but for real-life items esp. historical or artistic. Books are not real-life items. They are inter-dimensional portals.
There's a book about Librarians ruling the world and it says they're all evil. I disagree, obviously, but it says all the facts in the world are made up (by the evil Librarians)
I made an awesome Librarian friend on the plane. She's helping get home from college. She's a nerdfighter with out knowing it. She has a full bookshelf in every room in her house.
i actually loved all of Looking for Alaska, but was astounded at how well written the second half of it was. in my opinion, by the second half of the book you should have lost energy and such, so i thought it was amazingly written. but i guess that's just me
I feel sad that I live in a town with such mean librarians. I really mean it. They consistently astound me with their lack of knowledge of... well anything and their complete utter lack of manners. I wish I could meet the librarians that John meets.
I met John Green at this ALA conference. He was totally awesome, and I really enjoyed his talk about Paper Towns. It's so strange to think I met him in person three years ago, and now spend lazy Friday afternoons watching VlogBrothers videos. Thank you for being awesome! :D
Although her comment was delivered in typical quirky old lady fashion (blunt), I think it had some merit. I loved all of Looking for Alaska, but I did feel that the second half lost a lot of the energy of the first half and was a little bit aimless. I sort of assumed you were doing this on purpose so that the writing would mirror the loss in energy and aimlessness of the narrator, but it still left me feeling a little lost. Great book though.
I've worked with librarians. I had a free time job from the age of 15 to 18, where I put books on the shelves and a bit else in my local library. It was an awesome job!
I loved both halves. It seemed inevitable that something terrible would happen after the days had counted down; that mixed with the eerie, suggestive cover and the nature of Alaska's personality prepared me well enough for the second half
your book is awesome in both halves but it's really sad in the second half. and that's wat you wanted it to be like so awesome book and im reading paper towns right now
I think I know why she didn't like the second half... I'd say why, but some people STILL might not have read Looking For Alaska. (I'm so snooty now that I've finally read it.)
I don't agree with her, of course. But some people probably cannot come to terms with the emotions at which the second half so heart-wrenchingly tugs.
I enjoyed the second half of Alaska much better than the first. After all, that was when the characters actually checked into reality for a bit. They stopped being somewhat foolish children, to being people concerned with the lives that we live and our impact on other people. It's where the best musings about death and life occur. It's just generally really awesome.
At first I thought the first half was way better than the second half, and then I finally got to the end, and I felt much better about the whole thing. If Pudge had just angsted through the entirety of the second half, I would've put it down, but luckily the mourning faded away and was followed by investigation, acceptance, and male strippers. It was awesome. :)
Wow, I'm glad you know cool librarians, because the ones at my local library and at my school don't help you find a book, all they try to do is kick you out (which seems weird, I should be allowed to look for a book without fear of being ejected...)
John, generally I attempt to be fair and unbiased because everyone is unique and has their good points. But you are unequivocally my favorite nerdfighter. And you gained more points today because you love librarians and I think that's what I want to do with my life so yay!
i loved every half of looking for alaska, its my favorite book. i think the second half made it stand out to me as a deeper book, not just some stupid teenage love story. well done john green :]
Wow, you were at ALA? Do you go every year? I wasn't able to go but I looked at the guest/author list and didn't see you on it. Maybe I missed your name? Or do you just show up randomly, steal a table, and start signing books? ;) No, seriously, if you always go to ALA, I'll make a huge effort to go there next year!
Well I disagree with that random lady, I just read Looking for Alaska for the first time today, and I loved it! The first and second halves were all-around fantastic and made of deep-fried awesome.
For future question Tuesdays: Have you ever had a bufriedo?
Hahaha. Well...John can't satisfy everyone's expectations in writing what one might consider a "good" book. That's impossible. You can never satisfy everyone or make everyone happy in your profession. But hey, most people did like it. I must say, then John did a good job writing the books.

I had to go from Birmingham Alabama... get bumped off my flight. Go to Dallas... and hour later. RUN around there for a minute. From Dallas to Santa Anna. Stayed in San Diego for 3 weeks only to get back on a plane which was running about an hour behind going to Cincinnati. RUN to get to my plane they almost didnt let me on; from there back to Birmingham. I do not like airports, librarians I now like. OH! I got my best friend and her sister into your books. =]
if tsa stops reminding travelers every four minutes, travelers get to be delayed four hours while tsa gets to sort out your items (tsa loves sorting out your items for you)
Hello! I have a question for the next question tuesday whenever that shall occur. Do you have any awesome ideas for a nerdfighter birthday party that's made of awesome?
"ugh, oh has the tsa limited the number of items i can carry onto the flight. i really wouldnt have known that if you hadnt told me four mins ago. and four mins before that, and four mins before that. and truly, four mins before that." is now my ring tone
I think that without the second half, it wouldn't have been near as good. Because that would have made it shorter. And who would want a SHORTER book?
But you should get somebody to hug you. D: You look completely worn out and despite the fact everyone want to follow you around and try to absorb some of your awesome, I suggest you take some time off so you can rest. We don't need you keeling over before Question Tuesday. XD
I finally got to read Looking for Alaska, it made me cry. But it is still a really good book, and I loved it, despite it making me cry. Although, I think I liked An Abundance of Katherine's more.
i personally enjoyed the second half of looking for Alaska just like i liked the fiest half and the middle half and all the parts of an abundance katherines which i just finished reading....again
I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, but did you temporarily lose your mind and tell the police that you were a terrorist and had a bomb in your bag?
If you didn't, were you there when that one guy did?
OH MY GOD, JOHN! I worked at Borders in 2005 and we got a pre-released edition of Looking For Alaska. I read it in one night, loved it and stayed up ultimately doing 3 paintings inspired by it. I've always thought back to that book fondly. My boyfriend introduced me to the Vlog brothers but I never made the connection between the two John Greens!!! I think that's a cool coincidence.
Or for that matter, why Abundance? How about a Plenitude of Penelopes? Totally off topic, but yeeaay for the Hawthorne Caballeros and for Bartók, not necessarily in that order!
Whoa, I like Plentitude of Penelopes. You should totally write that... and make it as ridiculous as possible, because I'm pretty sure I have never met ANYONE named Penelope.
YAY! I finally caught up in watching all of the brotherhood videos!
Also, is it too late to ask a question for tuesday?
Since mine is, "How do you usually decide to read a book? Is it because someone recommended the book to you or do you just randomly decide...since your collection of books covers all sorts of topics."
(p.s. I ordered a copy of the katherines book today! And that's a big deal, considering I'm not much of a reader...)
You're just made of awesome, and that's all I have to say.
I was on Blog TV during your little thing tonight. I must say, it was epic. Of course, I was in the waiting room and didn't get to ask you anything, but hey, as Hank said, the waiting room is awesome. Loved your happy dance and all your answers! Hope to see your next Blog TV thing if you do another one.
This is probably not the place to talk about it, but I just had to get that all off my cheast.

Question: I'm a nerdfighter and a librarian, does this make me awesome AND a superhero? Is there a limit to how much awesome ones body can handle?

You sounded a tad down for a lot of the video, but the last bit of hope at the end made up for it. =]

question for question tuesday:
what made you choose the name katherine for an abudance of katherines? (it could've been any name...like.....mary, or anna, or grace).
lilmissmusikerin 3 years ago 2
