  • my mom is a librarian!!!

  • This seriously makes me want to be a librarian

  • Job added to possible list of jobs for after I graduate college: librarian. it was sorta added at the other book conference video with all of the free books, but, I just began to speculate now.

  • We know you love librarians, John. You married one.

Note: curator is like librarian, but for real-life items esp. historical or artistic. Books are not real-life items. They are inter-dimensional portals.

  • My school is called TSA (Toledo School for the Arts) so i perked up a little bit until i heard it was about the airport :/

  • There's a book about Librarians ruling the world and it says they're all evil. I disagree, obviously, but it says all the facts in the world are made up (by the evil Librarians)

  • My friends' mom used to be a librarian, but she left like, 6 years ago. I was sad.

  • "In which awesome can happen IRL"... the way you said that reminds me of Henry Rollins's voice.

  • I counted 18 blinks in that video, is it bad if i count the blinks??

  • My mother is a librarian. Nerdfighters! :)

  • how does one become a librarian? I want to!

  • I made an awesome Librarian friend on the plane. She's helping get home from college. She's a nerdfighter with out knowing it. She has a full bookshelf in every room in her house.

  • i actually loved all of Looking for Alaska, but was astounded at how well written the second half of it was. in my opinion, by the second half of the book you should have lost energy and such, so i thought it was amazingly written. but i guess that's just me

  • I feel sad that I live in a town with such mean librarians. I really mean it. They consistently astound me with their lack of knowledge of... well anything and their complete utter lack of manners. I wish I could meet the librarians that John meets.

  • I met John Green at this ALA conference. He was totally awesome, and I really enjoyed his talk about Paper Towns. It's so strange to think I met him in person three years ago, and now spend lazy Friday afternoons watching VlogBrothers videos. Thank you for being awesome! :D

  • Although her comment was delivered in typical quirky old lady fashion (blunt), I think it had some merit. I loved all of Looking for Alaska, but I did feel that the second half lost a lot of the energy of the first half and was a little bit aimless. I sort of assumed you were doing this on purpose so that the writing would mirror the loss in energy and aimlessness of the narrator, but it still left me feeling a little lost. Great book though.

  • I've worked with librarians. I had a free time job from the age of 15 to 18, where I put books on the shelves and a bit else in my local library. It was an awesome job!

  • my gf is a librarian.

  • I loved both halves. It seemed inevitable that something terrible would happen after the days had counted down; that mixed with the eerie, suggestive cover and the nature of Alaska's personality prepared me well enough for the second half

  • *inexplicable furtive glance*

    i liked both halves.

  • well i loved BOTH halves of Looking for Alaska, in all of its awesomeness :)

  • Run away from the Gray Speckled walls!

  • your book is awesome in both halves but it's really sad in the second half. and that's wat you wanted it to be like so awesome book and im reading paper towns right now

  • Aaaw... I was in LAX...I never got to see any Nerdfighters...except me...when I looked in a mirror... xD

  • "i love librarians. they are so fun to hang out" with beats out your previous nerdiest quote "i love almanacs" out of first place by far

  • "But in the mean time, let's kick it old school."

    :D

    :D :D :D

  • I think I know why she didn't like the second half... I'd say why, but some people STILL might not have read Looking For Alaska. (I'm so snooty now that I've finally read it.)

I don't agree with her, of course. But some people probably cannot come to terms with the emotions at which the second half so heart-wrenchingly tugs.

...I love your books. Can you tell?

  • I'm a librarian, and yes, it is an awesome profession! Maybe you can visit the CLA (Canadian Library Association) conference sometime! :)

  • dude librarians are awesome my uncles girlfriend is a librarian and a doctor in English Lit, and shes so cool

  • Knowledge, Hardchargers, Sports racers?

  • Librarians are some of the best nerdfighters :D

  • I have to agree with John, librarians are amazing. I befriend them whenever possible. :DD

  • omg i love an abundence of cathrines, but i didnt realize john green was this john green til right now. lightbulb moment!

  • huh?

    I'm lost (O_o).........

  • Librarians are awesome!!

  • The second part didn't fall apart. I think the second part actually brought the whole thing together.

  • librarians are secret super heroes of the world xD

  • Comment 303:

    What a meany.

  • I enjoyed the second half of Alaska much better than the first. After all, that was when the characters actually checked into reality for a bit. They stopped being somewhat foolish children, to being people concerned with the lives that we live and our impact on other people. It's where the best musings about death and life occur. It's just generally really awesome.

  • Library conferences are the best kept secret in the world.

  • OMIGOD!!! MARY!!!!!!! :D

  • OMG THAT WAS MARY. I KNOW HER. AH.

  • At first I thought the first half was way better than the second half, and then I finally got to the end, and I felt much better about the whole thing. If Pudge had just angsted through the entirety of the second half, I would've put it down, but luckily the mourning faded away and was followed by investigation, acceptance, and male strippers. It was awesome. :)

  • the first part of looking for alaska was indeed better

the second part made me do a lot of well being sad

and not wanting to read the book

cause i wanted pudge and the colonel and takumi to be happy again....

and thats all i wanted.... except for maybe Alaska back

but it was still a good book

  • My initials are TSA. I always tell people that those guys are named after me.

For some reason no one ever believes me...

  • Librarians love you too, John!

  • Don't tell everyone how awesome librarians are -- its a secret. (I work at my school's library and I absolutely adore the staff. Rebels!)

  • my airport doesnt have white speckeld wall

i feel like it's breaking a law of something

  • WOW JOHN u hARDLY BLINKED~

  • @JBluver994 the fact that you followed that he didnt blink is funny

  • @JBluver994 That's because there is a wiping angel behand him.

  • @JBluver994 Clearly there was a statue of a weeping angel behind the camera, so he was being careful.

  • @JBluver994 You seem new here.

  • no way, I was at LAX that same day!

  • that would get really annoying having everone ask where hank was.

  • Wow, I'm glad you know cool librarians, because the ones at my local library and at my school don't help you find a book, all they try to do is kick you out (which seems weird, I should be allowed to look for a book without fear of being ejected...)

  • omg I'm a secret superhero!!! YESH.

  • Go librarians!

  • Oh no, you look miserable! Poor John.

  • John, generally I attempt to be fair and unbiased because everyone is unique and has their good points. But you are unequivocally my favorite nerdfighter. And you gained more points today because you love librarians and I think that's what I want to do with my life so yay!

  • My birthdayyyy!

    1st July ftw

  • Haha-people love you too, John.

  • adorable

  • Dear John,

I've only watched all of your videos

i only watch Hanks videos when they are related to yours and i dont know what youre talking about. Keep Making Videos.

    Love,

    ME

  • FREEKN TRUE DUDE!! lol

  • The gravelly voice is pretty hot.

  • "librarians are like the secret superheros of the world!" lol..its true!

  • Librarians ftw, man.

Especially the kind that oppose banned books and are secretly funny and rebellious.

  • You were in So Cal? Next time try Ontario International Airport, LAX stinks!

  • LAX is the most evil airport in existence.

  • i loved every half of looking for alaska, its my favorite book. i think the second half made it stand out to me as a deeper book, not just some stupid teenage love story. well done john green :]

  • Live from LAX(atives )

  • Yayy!!! ALA was fantastic!

It makes me about 500 kinds of happy to hear such love for librarians. Hell yes. Thanks for kicking ass.

  • COME TO SOUTH FL!!!! PLEASE! Jupiter needs more awesome!

  • You should have given that lady half-an-autograph! Thanks for all those helpful TSA tips! LOL

  • hahah! that's true, he should have!

  • I just noticed you strongly resemble Sean Astin.

Or rather that he strongly resembles you.

    Which is amazing.

  • and thinking about books... [eye shifter...]

    NERDFIGHTERS.

  • NOOO! you were there on sunday??? I WAS THERE ON MONDAY!!!!! why???

  • Get some sleep and you'll feel better soon. Glad you had an awesome time. I'm jealous.

  • Wow, you were at ALA? Do you go every year? I wasn't able to go but I looked at the guest/author list and didn't see you on it. Maybe I missed your name? Or do you just show up randomly, steal a table, and start signing books? ;) No, seriously, if you always go to ALA, I'll make a huge effort to go there next year!

  • ZOMG i was in LAX on july 1st

  • you rock more than hank.

  • Well I disagree with that random lady, I just read Looking for Alaska for the first time today, and I loved it! The first and second halves were all-around fantastic and made of deep-fried awesome.

For future question Tuesdays: Have you ever had a bufriedo?

  • There will be a Nerdfighter Tour?!

    :O

  • yes, I think John mentioned this in a previous video... about visiting the nerdfighters this November?? And they are coming to Canada too! Yay!

  • weres the airplane? i wanted to see a airplane today. bye gorgeous!

  • yay for people made out of awesome!

Hank you seem really tired, get some sleep.

  • WHOA, where'd you see Hank? I thought he was too busy to be at the ALA conference...or did you just not watch the video at all?

  • yeah LAX sucks. i was there yesterday.

  • i was there just yesterday, and the same guy told me the same TSA shit every 4 minutes too, unfortunately.

  • You need to announce when you go to Los Angeles so I can fangirl you!

  • I have a question for question tuesday!

What is the difference between nerds and geeks?

  • :P

    Nerds are made of awesome

I believe geeks are the old name for people who bit the heads off of chickens.

  • John, what do you think about the Twilight books by Stephenie Meyer?

  • first half, ftw.

  • nerdfighter tour of awesome 2008 ftw! w00t!

    btw, where's hank ;)

    <3's

  • Whoever introduced the video, looks like my friend. @_@

  • Hahaha. Well...John can't satisfy everyone's expectations in writing what one might consider a "good" book. That's impossible. You can never satisfy everyone or make everyone happy in your profession. But hey, most people did like it. I must say, then John did a good job writing the books.

  • Well, I think you're just great solo, John.

  • i just finished your book and it was absolutly amazing!

  • come to sammamish, wa

  • whoaaa........i wasn't told about the nerdfighter thing in LA......*tear*

  • Please, please, please, please come to Lexington, Kentucky. Or really anywhere near Lexington, Kentucky.

  • This is like me at the end of an anime convention. lol

  • *Gasp, Choke, Hyperventilate, Die*

Are you coming to Toronto? Im pretty sure that we're still number one on eventful. Please come here!

  • "Well I really liked the first part of your comment."

  • that is a hilarious story john. i'm sorry, but it's hilarious.

  • John, while I like Hank, too, I do really like and respect you a lot, you are brilliant!

  • But i LOVE the second half of Looking for Alaska!

  • omgomgomgomg!!!!! Vlogbrother tour!!! I can't believe it's really happening. There better be a convention w/in a few hours of me!!!!!!!!!!!gieoajft!!!hfueutgigj@!!~1

  • hahaha- i hate 6 o'clock in the morning

  • I had to go from Birmingham Alabama... get bumped off my flight. Go to Dallas... and hour later. RUN around there for a minute. From Dallas to Santa Anna. Stayed in San Diego for 3 weeks only to get back on a plane which was running about an hour behind going to Cincinnati. RUN to get to my plane they almost didnt let me on; from there back to Birmingham. I do not like airports, librarians I now like. OH! I got my best friend and her sister into your books. =]

  • Dude, that sucks! The airport thing, I mean.

  • if tsa stops reminding travelers every four minutes, travelers get to be delayed four hours while tsa gets to sort out your items (tsa loves sorting out your items for you)

  • pleeeease come to Vancouver on your tour!!

  • hahhahaha

  • hhahaha such a monotone voice i hope your voice gets better and you keep on nerdfighting! DTFBA

  • John! I just pre-ordered Paper Towns. 8D

    I'm mega excited.

  • Hello! I have a question for the next question tuesday whenever that shall occur. Do you have any awesome ideas for a nerdfighter birthday party that's made of awesome?

  • john need sleep.

  • love you john =D

  • In which awesome shall happen IRL

  • I love you.

And I agree yay to librarians.

  • i know i loved my school librarian she was soo cool

  • What a mean old lady >:/ all your books are awsome John!

  • yay for librarians!

  • Ah yes, the lovely grey walls of every airport in America, how I've missed them.

Oh, and of course... NERDFIGHTER TOUR FTW!!!

  • "ugh, oh has the tsa limited the number of items i can carry onto the flight. i really wouldnt have known that if you hadnt told me four mins ago. and four mins before that, and four mins before that. and truly, four mins before that." is now my ring tone

  • My librarian friend got a copy of Paper Towns at her ALA conference last week... She's mailed it to me today!

    I AM SO EXCITED. :D

  • you think the tsa announcement is annoying?

    yeah

    try working at an airport.

  • Bowling Green, KY!!! There is about a .000001 chance you will come here.

At least come to KY! Or Nashville. I promise our water is fine. It's actually really good and I'm not just saying that because I live here.

  • Now!

  • Come to San Francisco.

    Come to San Francisco.

    Come to San Francisco.

Do I have to say it again?

    Come to San Francisco.

  • "...when i was still young and promising and it wasn't six o'clock in the morning."

    john=awesome

  • YOU WERE IN MY CITY! *gasp*

  • John ... you are my favorite!! How can anyone like Hank as much as you?? I am baffled!!!

  • I think that without the second half, it wouldn't have been near as good. Because that would have made it shorter. And who would want a SHORTER book?

But you should get somebody to hug you. D: You look completely worn out and despite the fact everyone want to follow you around and try to absorb some of your awesome, I suggest you take some time off so you can rest. We don't need you keeling over before Question Tuesday. XD

  • when will the tetris vidieo be up?

  • I finally got to read Looking for Alaska, it made me cry. But it is still a really good book, and I loved it, despite it making me cry. Although, I think I liked An Abundance of Katherine's more.

  • I feel bad for you....if I were there I'd woulda been like, "OMG, Hank is so cool but I love you more."

    You look weary. :(

  • Ignore the crazy lady! the book was amazing

  • IM A LIBRARIAN

  • Neato mosquito

  • i personally enjoyed the second half of looking for Alaska just like i liked the fiest half and the middle half and all the parts of an abundance katherines which i just finished reading....again

  • OH MY GOSHNESS!

    JOHN, ARE YOU OKAY?!

I'm not trying to insult your intelligence, but did you temporarily lose your mind and tell the police that you were a terrorist and had a bomb in your bag?

If you didn't, were you there when that one guy did?

I HOPE YOU ARE OKAY AND MENTALLY STABLE!!

  • haha! i heard about that! thats a really big coinkidink that john is in LAX and his name is john! =]

  • if you see any paps (paparazzi) following celebs be sure to film it! LAX is full with swarms of them.

  • mymy

  • kermit the frog with late stage emphysema... that's priceless.

  • OH MY GOD, JOHN! I worked at Borders in 2005 and we got a pre-released edition of Looking For Alaska. I read it in one night, loved it and stayed up ultimately doing 3 paintings inspired by it. I've always thought back to that book fondly. My boyfriend introduced me to the Vlog brothers but I never made the connection between the two John Greens!!! I think that's a cool coincidence.

  • Awesome shall indeed happen IRL!

  • Damn, you look like hell Hank.

  • *LOL* I liked the first half of you comment.

    Priceless

  • how do you get a little box that says subscribe

  • Question: I'm a nerdfighter and a librarian, does this make me awesome AND a superhero? Is there a limit to how much awesome ones body can handle?

  • NERDFIGHTERS!!!

    I need a shirt.

  • some awesome nerdfighter should make an action figure of you two, and then you can both have each other wherever you go!

  • Librarians are awesome because they NFTBA

  • You sounded a tad down for a lot of the video, but the last bit of hope at the end made up for it. =]

  • i missed that intro!!

  • question for question tuesday:

what made you choose the name katherine for an abudance of katherines? (it could've been any name...like.....mary, or anna, or grace).

  • Or for that matter, why Abundance? How about a Plenitude of Penelopes? Totally off topic, but yeeaay for the Hawthorne Caballeros and for Bartók, not necessarily in that order!

  • Whoa, I like Plentitude of Penelopes. You should totally write that... and make it as ridiculous as possible, because I'm pretty sure I have never met ANYONE named Penelope.

  • A Lavish of Liliths?

    ...

    Am I trying too hard?

  • ...in my pants.

  • oh god

this chick that i like and is awesome is a librarian, an she really likes me to but she lives in texas

maybe we could go on the tour de nerdfighting 08 together =D

  • i live in texas!

    ...seemed kind of relevant

  • LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YAY! I finally caught up in watching all of the brotherhood videos!

Also, is it too late to ask a question for tuesday?

Since mine is, "How do you usually decide to read a book? Is it because someone recommended the book to you or do you just randomly decide...since your collection of books covers all sorts of topics."

(p.s. I ordered a copy of the katherines book today! And that's a big deal, considering I'm not much of a reader...)

  • John, you sound so exhausted and sad. I just want to give you a hug :)

    Yes, librarians are awesome!

  • Hooray!

For falling short of what you said you would do!!

    Who doesn't do that, really?

  • "you may be wondering why i sound like kermet the frog with late stage emphysema..."

  • you should come to Australia on your Great American Tour :D

  • Poor John....you look so tired. I grant you three days of napping!

  • haha this is awesome, Librarians are totoally the superheros of the world!

  • Please tell me Canada will be included in the Great American Tour... please? (pretty please?)

  • You're just made of awesome, and that's all I have to say.

I was on Blog TV during your little thing tonight. I must say, it was epic. Of course, I was in the waiting room and didn't get to ask you anything, but hey, as Hank said, the waiting room is awesome. Loved your happy dance and all your answers! Hope to see your next Blog TV thing if you do another one.

This is probably not the place to talk about it, but I just had to get that all off my cheast.

  • Oh, and DFTBA!

  • Ahh please come to Jersey!

    Or someplace nearby.

    xD

    DFTBA.

  • she's cute
