  • That man is the Chuck Norris among the guitar players...

  • What's so crazy about a phaser and a delay?

  • People paul didnt use any effects he just picked so fast tht u couldnt see his hands...-_-

  • @elshroomness He did in fact use delay and a phaser know what you're talking about -.-

  • @imonyourfacewoot he was making a joke

  • @TheBritishArmyClan I sure hope so.

  • omg, shut up you idiots! Paul Gilbert owns any Guns N'Roses nowadays guitarist

  • THE ECHO SONG

  • That same effect can be heard in the song FCPREMIX for Guitar Hero 3.

  • @thagrtstuvawltyme11 terrible song

  • Very cool use of delay and phaser, I like those kinds of melodies.

  • he made the forest temple song on ocarina of time

  • Reminds me of a faster, more technical Jack the Stripper

  • Best thing i've ever heard

  • i think it's delay with flanger/wah?

  • Delay and Wah?

  • he doesnt use effects here

  • @andrewm9999 lol yeah cuz guitars just sound like that anyway

  • kinda a similar with buckethead.......

  • Now I wanna see him play it without the delay. Lmao.

  • I just find what he's doing so interesting and awsome, it's just sounds so fucking cool does it not?! xD

  • he is so skinny. He need to take a break from the guitarplaying to eat

  • @krollaostmedburger ikr he could be a a fuckin tree if he wanted to.

  • Please check out my melodic guitar vids on my channel. Mr.Gilbert is a huge influence and inspiration showing us mortals how to play through is truly brilliant talent and great teaching skills . Thank You :)

  • Which dimension is this?! Am I in the future?

  • starting from 0:11 it somewhat sounds like balinese tone

  • he's holocaust mode

  • He made me cry in 0:16 seconds... :' (

  • that's a wah and a tremolo effect. not really amazing

  • @whatthebollocks you're wrong. it's a delay and i think a phaser. if you are going to bash it at least get the effects right...

  • @wyattrexach i wasn't bashing it it just didn't really strike me as a "crazy effect" as it was called in the title. sorry

  • @whatthebollocks Wow you're a fuckin' dumbass.

  • @deandimedof because i thought it sounded like different effects than it really was like wyattrexach told me?

  • WHAT THE FUCK this sounds exactly like big sur moon, i swear this dude is buckethead

  • @AfricanAmericanNiggg this is the echo song

  • @AfricanAmericanNiggg He taught Buckethead.

  • See, Big Sur Moon came around in 1998 and I don't think GIlbert's came out before it. I am not 100% sure though, so don't kill me. Either way, delay has always been my favorite effect and obviously Bucket's. He uses that delay in a lot of songs. I don't blame him, it's pretty sick.

  • Reminds me of Big sur Moon ;) Very nice and smooth sound.

  • -.-

  • was that flanger and delay? 0o

  • Sounds Like Buckethead :O

  • @zotacw He was buckethead's teacher

  • @Tenkaichi1234567890 Was he really buckethead's teacher ??????

  • @Tenkaichi1234567890 Those guitarists are like jedi...

  • @Tenkaichi1234567890 For a year.

  • @zotacw That's probably where Buckethead learned it from. Sounds exactly like the effect in Big Sur Moon.

  • @aznhxor Yeah , Bucket and Gilbert sould play a gig together :O It would be awesome !

  • @zotacw Are you serious? Do you want the world to end that bad? lol If they played a show together we would all die, but we would all die graciously. lol

  • @zotacw no.. buckethead sounds like him

  • what pickups does he use?

  • @sonicthehedgehogxp DiMarzio.

  • @oilers1go1 Thankyou!

  • Paul Sell me that GIT come on man!

  • crazy effects my ass. :D

  • the delay reminds me of the intro part of the song FCPREMIX by the fall of troy

  • @Hardboi01

somebody has been playing to much guitar hero.... tsk tsk *in a condescending voice*

  • @jajwatt1 ahahah thts where youre wrong, i dont play guitar hero at all xD i play REAL guitar lol just about 3 yrs now :D

  • End sounds a bit like Big Sur Moon

  • MY EARS WONT STOP CUMMING!

  • @BlasphemousVince you should see a docter

  • @erobianrat So should you *Doctor

  • @BlasphemousVince use ears preventor !

  • @erobianrat You should learn how to spell.

  • @Jurassic55 you should know when a comment was posted five months ago and he no longer cares about what he commented on this video

  • @erobianrat You should learn about something called hypocrisy.

  • @erobianrat you should see an english teacher

  • You should see an elementary school.

  • @LTDGuitars420 You didn't reply to him.

  • Paul Gilbert and his crazy experiments... he's like a mad scientist.

  • I knew these effects ideas weren't originally from Buckethead. Looks like having Paul as teacher really paid off.

  • Did anyone notice this sounds exactly the same as buckethead? .. Yes he was taught by paul gilbert but one of his solos were this exactly an many of his solos are like this.. Copying much?

  • my old Digitech GNX3000 had tone and delay effects like this...I miss it now I'm playing through a Behringer Vamp Effects Module.

  • COOL!

  • I've never been jealous until I watched his videos..

  • Let's just assume that Paul was INSPIRED by Buckethead's Big Sur Moon...

  • Reminds me of F.C.PR.E.M.I.X by The Fall of Troy

  • This was written and has been played by Paul for over a decade before The Fall of Troy, though. I love both Paul and The Fall of Troy, so don't take that comment like I was putting TFOT down or anything. Both Thomas and Paul are big influences on my style.

  • @BigTymerPimp I know that, I was just mentioning that it reminded me of that song.

  • sounds like the ozric tentacles

  • @thenamesdation and all the ppl that thumbed up his post : Saying that PG is the most underrated guitarist ever just shows how little you guys know of him. Ask any respectable guitar player for an opinion on PG and I'm sure you will get the same answer.

  • he loves that guitar

  • Buckethead=most underrated guitarist ever

  • @assassinXXnissassa not really, NO

  • @assassinXXnissassa

why dont you post that on a buckethead video.?.. besides, buckethead only took a few lessons from paul. He was actually taught Pebber Brown.

  • @assassinXXnissassa

BTW, he's not underrated. Neither is Paul gilbert. I dont know what's gotten into people.

  • Buckethead who was taught by Paul Gilbert=most underrated guitarist ever

  • this riff kinda reminds me of those like animal planet and discovery channel specials

  • i just had a race in cyber space

  • Thomas Erak took a lesson from him XD!!! it's fcpremix intro XD!!!

  • Hmmm, I wonder where "big sur moon" came from...

  • For some reason it kinda reminds me of the fall of Troy. But with a spacey sound to it :D

  • HACKER!!!!!!!

  • wow, crazy effects! never seen nothing like it..!

  • Palm muting + Delay Effect = Win

  • @speaker3600 there's a phaser too.

  • what's the point of playing fast?or slow? simple!!! it set's the mood. would you play a slow paced song for a hardcore fighting game for example. nothing wrong in playing fast or too slow, just don't overuse it.

  • @cobracarg:

And he did a pretty good job if you ask me ^^

  • The echo song!!!! Damn hey anyone noticed that him and buckethead are close friends and they basically play the same echo song?hmm who is tealing whos songs!?

  • @thatboimanny Its because Paul was Bucketheads guitar teacher.

  • that's simply a Delay and a Flanger...

  • @marcosdavid1794 Phase shifter ,u might say

  • If you think Buckethead could teach Paul a single thing, Paul's learned it even before you thought of it.

  • Cathedral

  • wat effect was tht at the second one

  • @chubbychicken1234567

delay. he just plays half as fast and lets the delay play the other notes. Jeff Loomis did this eventually too on his solo album. Check out his instructional video for Devil Theory to see it explained a little better.

  • He is such a humble guy, I love that :)

  • echo song! i love it

  • i wait till the third or fouth date to show a girl my crazy effects...

  • @naruhina102

says the fag who is into anime romance lol. i bet you've never seen a girl naked in your life besides your mom. then again you probably wank off to hentai all the time, so if you count naked cartoon chicks then maybe you have seen a girl naked.

  • @Fluffypopcicle i dont know why people have a problem with my jokes......... and yes i have seen a naked woman (not porn).....i beliver her name was "YOUR MOM". By the way I took this account from my little sister........she likes anime stuff the only anime i really like is Hellsing sooo..what now?

  • @Fluffypopcicle You know what though, i respect people who voice their opinon .........positive or other wise.

  • @naruhina102

rofl yeah, i have had some bad experiences on youtube from my sister. she has made me look like an idiot a couple of times. sorry for blowing up on you, i was having a really bad day and didn't know it was you're sisters file. you kick ass for watching hellsing too. btw friend invite excepted :)

  • It's just delay + Phaser. That's not too crazy >_<

  • @guitarf666 and compressor and tube screamer and chorus. lol. Not crazy but not so simple either.

  • @guitarf666 delay and flanger

  • @guitarf666 stil sounds prety koo

  • songs like sonic and sega all star racing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • sounds like music from the silver surfer game

  • THis was great. I never liked paul gilbert's tone though. Not his playing either. But this was great

  • delay + flanger? Or is it a phaser?

  • how often does he teach at MI? Musicians Institute in CA

  • I seem to recognise this from the Ozric tentacles?

  • WTF? His fingers are long as... that's crazy!

  • just in this small part u can see the emotion that he puts into, what makes his music so great to listen to other than its just f'n amazing,

  • anyone know his set up?

  • i.e. if you're playing eighth notes, you want the delay set to a dotted eighth note, playing quarters, set to a dotted quarter, etc. You want the repeat to be exactly half way between the next two notes you play.

For more cool examples of this kind of effect, check out the middle part of Symphony X's "Candlelight Fantasia" (effect starts at 2.25) or Dream Theater's "Lifting Shadows Off a Dream" (effect starts at 0.55)

  • Why won't it let me post a comment?!?

  • ok....@wsmith1213 To get that repeat effect you just need a simple delay unit (most likely the delay effect on your amp won't work properly since you can't accurately set the number of repeats, etc)

  • First, set the delay to repeat exactly once. Now you need to set the delay time to be 50% more than the time between the notes you're playing. You want the timing to go like this: you play the first note, play the second note, exactly half a note later you hear the first repeat, exactly half a note later you play the third note, etc.

  • what kind of effects pedals was he using?

  • Its a Flanger and also a Delay!!

  • @Selcknam sounds kinda like a phaser to me

  • what effect is he using

  • Check my video

  • I love how people are all like "Paul Gilbert taught Buckethead" that shows how clueless you are about Buckethead.

Buckethead took like 4 lessons from Paul Gilbert when he was like 19. That was after about 8 years with Pebber Brown.

Buckethead's song Big Sur Moon may have been influenced by this song. That doesn't mean everything Buck knows about guitar came from Paul Gilbert. No disrespect to Paul in any way possible. I just want to get that straight.

    Both are amazing guitar players.

  • You don't really make your point. If Paul Gilbert gave lessons to Buckethead back when Buckethead was 19, then he taught Buckethead. Regardless of how many times it was.

  • No, I never said Paul Gilbert never taught Buckethead. Buckethead is very proud of taking lessons from Paul and is influenced by his playing. I'm just saying that people make it seem like Paul taught Buckethead every little thing he knows about guitar. Hell, I remember people thought Buckethead was really Paul with a KFC bucket on his head and a mask with a wig.

Paul likely gave Buck tips more than lessons.

  • @BigTymerPimp Who is Pebber Brown anyway?

  • @SeTorsken Buckethead's guitar teacher since Buckethead was 12. Pebber went to Berklee with Steve Vai. He posts lessons on youtube. You can look him up here and see for yourself.

  • @BigTymerPimp they are the same people

  • @mesaboogie1231 I think you need to get your eyes checked, because they don't look anything like each other.

  • @BigTymerPimp what the fuck dude, is that maybe because buckethead is wearing bagging jeans, a baggy top, and a bucket and a wig on his head.... idiot, look at their, they are the same height, their hands are identical, your the one who needs their eyes checked.

  • @mesaboogie1231 They have very different voices and there is footage where you can see Buckethead's face from when he was 18 playing in a wedding band and he looks nothing like Paul Gilbert. I could never imagine Paul Gilbert lip-syncing with a severed head puppet to "Shame On A Nigga" by the Wu-Tang Clan. Also, how do they tour at the same time in different places? You're crazy if you think Paul is Buckethead. It's just too much work. Not even Andy Kaufman could pull it off.

  • sounds like eq gate and delay, fun mix

  • 0:5 - 0:10 sound like The Fall Of Troy :D

  • it sounds like big sur moon by buckethead :D

  • dude thats the first thing i thought too

  • nice, no idea why people put thumbs down on my comment tho... i mean paul gilbert trained buckethead so some of there songs are gonna sound similar

  • MXR phase 90 and delay yay

  • Paul Gilbert=most underrated guitarists ever

  • When did he become underrated? He's known to be one of the best ever, but only mostly because he is, lol.

  • i hardly ever hear or see anything about him. thats what i was basing that on...

  • I can see your point there. He was in Mr. Big way back when, which is I believe his big claim to fame as much as I wasn't a fan.

I suppose he'd be better known in and amongst the guitar/musician circles themselves.

When I see a guy on stage with the likes of John Petrucci, Steve Via, George Lynch, Joe Satriani or Eric Johnson I assume it's not because no one knows him or that he sucks, lol.

    Peace...

  • @thenamesdatlon really?

  • george harrison=most underrated guitarist ever...then maybe paul gilbert :) @thenamesdatlon

  • @thenamesdatlon Agreed

  • @thenamesdatlon Paul Gilbert seems much more involved with his fan community. I mean, you don't see Satriani and Vai making these little videos and such? He communicates with his audience very well, both on and off the stage.

  • @thenamesdatlon naa... alex lifesone is the most underrated guitarists ever.

  • @thenamesdatlon

no, not even close. paul gilbert gets A LOT of attention for the genre he plays in. shawn lane, kiko loureiro, guthrie govan and several others are way more underrated than paul.

  • @thenamesdatlon because he constantly makes fun of everything

  • @thenamesdatlon eh, i'd vote Alex Lifeson. i think everyone knows Paul's the fucking man. just isn't very popular.

  • @thenamesdatlon isnt that the truth.

  • @thenamesdatlon Not at all

  • @thenamesdatlon why underrated ?? :D

  • @thenamesdatlon why underrated ?? :D he's awesome but not so underrated

  • @thenamesdatlon yeah but he is still one of the best

  • @thenamesdatlon i wouldn't sa he is underrated but he is still amazing
