  • this is a lead up to giant mecha robots!! XD

  • and my grandma can walk faster :)))

  • Russians only had to use pencil because they never got their pen license

  • Its like a robotic Chocobo!

  • crap mechs are coming this is a signal XD

  • i predict the world will turn lazy..

  • @breadtacular

The US Government didn't spend anything on the development of the space pen. The pen was developed privately by an inventor after hearing the problems that both the United States and Russia were having with pencils in space. The US used pencils just as the Russians did until then. Now everyone uses the space pen (including the Russians) because it's safer than pencils.

  • Good job japan!

  • Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but... Gundams?!

  • Until this thing can do stairs, a regular wheelchair is superior.

Otherwise, it's just a giant toy. Fun, but otherwise useless.

  • I think that People in wheelchairs wont want this. I think they are already proud for what they still physically can do.

  • japan just being japanese with their superior minds~

  • whatevs... kraang had one of these way back in the 80's!

  • Take a pare of scissors, cut one of those cables and you end up with a 500 pound disabled walker.

  • @yury08bill yeah, well, if your goal is to harm and cripple people that are already crippled, you can just go and kick the side of the wheel on the wheelchair and.. you end up with a bit lighter, but still useless piece of metal.

  • "It can only carry passengers up to 50kg/110pounds" - which actually means they will newer be able to sell it in Usa for fat people.

Wait the minute ...I am 88kg/195pounds...Damn it ...

  • Thats why wheels are invented

  • Stephen Hawking's New Wheelchair

  • And how do these people suppose could the elderly get themselves up that high of a chair?

  • What they need to do is work more on a robot SUIT to enable the person to have fuller control, and to really feel the sensation of walking. It also needs to be able to run and climb stairs with ease, climb ladders, hillsides, etc. else its not practical in the least.

  • i think a wheelchair on a turbo charged engine is better

  • honestly seeing an old person in one of these would just make me want to run and drop kick them so both the old fuck and robot can't get back up.

  • i see a future of every person rideing huge robot and fllying in cars :( but i wanna become a scientist :D

  • i can finally be a protoss dragoon

  • can you run with it?

  • Why not just look into exo suits instead. Because a then human movements are translated into the robots movement, it makes for a much more natural walk and allows the human to be the brains.

  • the only reason this would be good is if it could go upstairs, or else its just a waste or youtube video

  • OH WHAT FEELING TOYOTA WOO GO!!

  • next sci-fi movie? Terminator Begins

  • it can walk but can it blend?

  • After watching a few of these videos online, i no longer fear death. If i die ill just have them freeze mybody and live as a robot in about 25 years.

  • @MrPizzapoika thats what dadelus did

  • @MrPizzapoika Why would they choose you over others?

  • stick to wheelchairs.

  • Can it get on to a sidewalk? or walk stairs? ;D

  • It functions...BUT....

obviously a wheelchair is better for safety concerns.

Wheelchairs are lower & wider, and therefore have more central stability.

A robot walker makes a successful student project. Realistically, however, it has no practical application for the disabled. Over-complicated, pointless solutions is backwards thinking. The US Space Administration spent two million dollars to develop a pen that could write in zero gravity. Meanwhile, the Russian astronauts simply used a pencil.

  • @breadtacular

Yeah, that's just what I was thinking... Why put so much effort into making something that walks (which is very fiddly and expensive) when wheels are a perfectly feasible solution?

Ever seen that video of the Asimo robot falling over trying to climb steps? Imagine an old person falling like that... Ouch!

Also, what happens when the wrinkly person accidentally steps on someone's foot in that thing?.. Ouch again.

  • @breadtacular

We have to go back to fix or improve on things we have today.

What if the Cartwright brothers flight was overlooked and people went: well thats nothing, we can get there faster by cart. Of course you can, but just try to see the potential instead of sticking to your well developed stone age technology.

  • @mg03nma That's all fine, and I was simply giving voice to the idea that real innovations comes from true thinking. Learning the value of actual thinking is important if only to understand that the name of the brothers who invented the airplane was Wright and not "Cartwright."

  • @breadtacular

That has to do with memory and is a detail besides the point I was making.

But since you are such a keen thinker I presume you understand that, if not maybe you just missed it and have to go back to find it. But thats old now, not innovative enough to be bothered with.

  • @mg03nma lol

  • @breadtacular

I say this respectfully...you are completely wrong about everything. These primitive designs are crucial to the development of the technology. You cannot run if you cannot walk first. Each advance lays a solid foundation for future advances but it all has to start with something that is likely basic & crude. I recommend watching the following video:

    watch?v=8aVvLkzcmAI

We are much closer to this than you think. We must continue to inspire future generations to be creative.

  • @breadtacular well think if that robot could walk up stairs for instance that would be a great for people who are physicaly restricted but if not it would just be a waste of resources and time.

  • @9gamegeek9 That's true, the idea might be good for stairs, like for a place which hasn't been made wheelchair accessible yet. But places should be wheelchair accessible anyway (in my opinion) & the cost of 1 person's stair robot could pay for a ramp or two, & it's the smarter course of action, b/c a 9-year-old could probably push a stair robot over with very little effort, meaning it's top-heavier than wheelchairs on ramps. (Maybe someone can make flying pants...now that would be something!!)

  • @breadtacular yea lol :p

  • @breadtacular

Pencils were not convenient because snapped lead in zero gravity proved to be a hazard.

  • @williamOFnyc ok.

  • @breadtacular It would be better if they design a suit to enhance the body instead of sitting on it

  • @breadtacular

While I agree with your comment, your Russian cosmonaut and NASA example is commonly misinterpreted. The problem with pencils is that the tip flakes off and pieces of graphite might drift around the ship, getting into sensitive equipment. Pencils are also flammable, and NASA wanted to avoid flammable objects after the Apollo 1 fire.

Further more, the Russians ordered the same pens that NASA used later on. It's just a common misconception about the Russians and the Americans.

  • @breadtacular The fact it functions means the technology works. Consider for a moment that the first airplane to fly was capable of sustained flight for a few hundred feet. Now airplanes can travel thousands of miles, thousands of feet in the air, and break the sound barrier. I guess people would have said "it functions...BUT...obviously a car is better for safety and usability concerns. They have four wheels, travel on the ground and can go faster and further."

  • @breadtacular cause we're americans and if we do something we make it rememberable

  • @breadtacular This is a prototype. A basic design, made for testing and showing the potential use of that machine. Of course it's not going to be as functional as they wheelchair in it's current form, but in a few more years, maybe a decade - it might become. Just think of the possibilites - climbing stairs, walking over obstacles, etc.

  • @breadtacular Its a total bad idea for a pencil to be used in space, due to the reason that the lead of the pencil could be easily broken and lodged into minute cracks in the space equipment. In the future, before you post such a ridiculous statement, do a little more research.

  • @breadtacular One word - stairs.

  • @fjccommish agreed.

  • @breadtacular LMAO YOU DUMBFUCK!!! try doing some research first before u post ur shit.

  • *moves toward stairs* uh oh *moves another direction and plays it off*

  • they already make a device that can do this..its called a hover round...get with the times asian people...wow

  • OMG asians are so weird! They like the gayest stuff!

  • What is the point of it ?

I mean there are electrical wheelchairs

  • I heard they're about to invent the same thing but with wheels. Shit, that would be awesome.

  • Eventually this will evolve into something similar to those two-legged walker droids from Star Wars.

  • this is step 1 of building dr.octupus arms

  • this robot=REALLY expensive wheelchair

  • check out Big Dog and Athlete Robot projects on youtube

  • Wait tho, Theyll put armor plating machine guns a Flamethrower, and a built in toilet!

  • why do we need this we have wellchairs that are much faster?

  • It's called an electric wheelchair :O

  • lol.... i badly need the toliet... DARN IT... xD

  • well your screwd if you fall off it

  • lucky its a prototype.

  • it only work at flat surface? might as well use some wheels.... it would be better if those things could actually walk at stairs. why make things so complicated..

  • Great... it's slower and less adaptable than a wheel chair. Seriously, until it can run, jump, and move faster than 1 mph and fit in a trunk we are better off with wheel chairs.

  • a wheelchair but with legs lol

  • wat will happen if there was a fire?

  • are you required to have all those computers and wires to operate that....... there's something new it's called the wheel chair.

  • Reminds me of the Wallace & Gromit mechanical pants...

  • hate to disappoint u but a wheelchair is better and faster

  • Robot Walkers.. because nerds need some swag too.

  • Asians....

  • this will nvr sell until it beats a wheelchair racer..

  • @Hallucination01 ...climbing a staircase.

  • @noxure good point..u got me..xD

  • @noxure oh wait.. xD it doesnt have a knee... xP

  • @Hallucination01 I knew you would say that.

This might have a knee in the future.

A wheel will never have a knee. :D

  • @noxure lol..wheelchairs will have jetpacks in the future..LOL(being desperate) xD

  • disable people r better of with the wheel chair then this crap, unless u crop off the person lower half then its a little bit better. XD

  • Suit needs more flexibility and reflex response. To do that, you need to lengthen the stride and have all calculations. Until you answer the problem of speed, you're going nowhere fast.

  • hehe "fukuoka"

  • Hey,isn't the electric wheel chair still around? Or did they stop making those?

  • While we're drinking a beer and watching a rerun of Seinfeld those asians are making robots for shits and giggles.

  • its much fast to get around on a segway

  • ...... can it go upstairs?

  • lets take the stairs or lift? hmmmm

  • stop complaining people, great invention gotta come from shitty stuff like this. If people think old computer were too big and impractical then we wouldn't have desktop or laptop today.

  • haha they still cant do marching band.

    "roll step!"

    'DAMNIT!"

  • There not really walking though are they? In fact, it is a constant reminder of how they can't..

  • how about making it run?

  • What wrong with wheel chair?

  • @ObliviousMemories wheel chair can't go on stairs...do u even have to ask? -.-

  • @zerodaiku There's a reason for lift and ramps. And i am pretty sure there's a wheelchair that can go up the stairs and is moves better than this.

  • @ObliviousMemories of course people will have ram in their home, but there's no ram or lift when they go to other places. Bipedal robot is still not better than wheelchair but with further R&D they will be. U have to look beyond the possibility.

  • lol a robber cames in and pushed robot over than steals everything man has and maby steals robot too thats the world face it if man goes into city with rbot stuff he will be robbed any second

  • There something called Electric Wheelchair I think it's much better.

  • @Achokiador well it being a WHEELchair cha expect

  • They're lying, they don't care about disabled people, they love Gundam Wing, and rightfully so.

  • omg this thing cant even go up the stairs yes wheelchairs cant either but at least they are much faster

  • Iron Man under construction

  • WHY USE LEGS THAT ROCK WHEN U CAN USE CHAIR WITH WHEELS!

  • Well... Not to drag robots down but the wheel was invented for a reason

  • 1 step closer to the imperial walker. YES! my childhood dreams are coming true! growing up is fun!

  • Wow tehy got too much money i guess

  • wheelchair is faster and has a way better grip!

  • what happens in a crowd if someone pushes it?

  • If you fall down from there, then you will have limited mobility. lol

  • To help elderly? There's electric wheelchairs out their...

  • this is what america doesnt need, we are already fat enough

  • its just for lazy people.

  • This accomplishes the same thing an electric wheelchair would, except this is slower, more expensive, and less convienient! Amaizing invention yet again!

  • Cavemen could of created a better way to get around...

  • soo you would have to find an elderly person who weighs the same as a 10 year old?

  • Mechs are comming...

  • ... Wallace and Gromit.

  • Thats still pretty fucking cool. .

  • wheres the TV

  • and kitchen... Where is our TV, kitchen and some cute japanese girl!

  • Make it wireless and faster and not make it so damn bumpy and its cool.

  • no way wow im want to live in japan when I grow up

  • give him a flame thrower !!!

  • WIN!!!!!!!!!

  • geta fucking wheel chair

  • disabled people could crawl faster than that

  • you should build a better robot then...

  • @cniiru this is just a start in new technology boy. look at cell phones back then, and now? there you go

  • @cniiru its just a beginning... sure they will make it better in near future...

  • @cniiru wow great fucking idea. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • @cniiru what a joke :P

  • can it go down and up the stairs???... for me its impossible... the legs are too short and big... well its only an opinion... =)...

  • これは日本人のロマンなのだよ

    It's a romance of a Japanese

  • yep/

  • It didn't go anywhere you couldn't go with wheels.

  • what's the music in this video?

  • Waytogo Japan.

  • i have a toilet likes this

i can poop anywhere in public

and people watch on ,, saying things like wow ,,thats some cool chit

  • 110lbs? Guess that won't work for us Americans, lol. I'm 208lbs. I'd need two!

  • They just need to make these things faster and more practical.

  • I think they should show it when it can do more, but still pretty cool.

  • yea ..but this chair go up to stairs... in the future... i think :)).

  • wheel chairs are faster

  • UTUBE WILL YA PLEASE GET RID OF THESE STUPID FUCKING ADVERTS AT THE START OF THE VIDEO CLIPS. WE HAVE ENOUGH OF THEM ON THE TV. good video by the way. ;-/

  • thats the way that youtube makes money :|

  • i agree with what your saying :] but how else will youtube support us with all these videos? x] think about it lol

  • soooo...the old ppl are gonna have to use a ladder to get on that? look how high it is from the ground lol

  • best walking robot ever is by BostonDynamics called bigdog and now they got a 2legged one called something like PETMAN search here on youtube

  • LOL! reminds me of wallice and gromit from the penguin episode and metal robotical pants

  • that thing doesnt look like it could even climb stairs

  • add some missles and bam instant killer robot mech oh you also need a cockpit

  • Wow that is some useless thing...

  • ok, how good doess it climb stairs

  • how about instead of spending millions on this crap... just install more wheel chair ramps? prob work out to be cheaper

  • wtf happend to the wheelchairs ???

  • what would this help us whit!? lol only to get late on the job?

  • its called developmental stages this leads to better versions everything we have once had something people woulda thought as stupid

  • yep i know but really... this will help on something... i am thinking how it can help? we already got legs... oh... there's what it will help! it will be better than a Wheel-Chair!

  • ya i like it cuz i could be even lazzier hahahahahahaha why walk when you can do this lol

  • but... i want to still having my balls!

  • those assistants don't seem to have much faith in it's balance

  • Old people are dangerous in cars, imagine one in these things.

  • Lol, You mean my dream of one day being Dr.Robotnik will one day finally come true? Awesome! I'll get you sonic! ;-P

  • this bot is doing a catwalk while walking LOL.......ya ya i know to balance its center of gravity......so dont be a smart ass

  • talk about lazy lols

  • OMG, in a about 100 years, mechs will be alive!

  • Machines will never meet the requirement for life.

  • duh, Robot is NOT controlled by humans on the inside, Mechs is being controlled by humans inside its body just like gundam or mech assault. this is already one example of Mechs, well i was hoping it was big and battle mech.

  • But they do not meet biology standards for life... That's what i was saying.

  • I know, amazing isn't it!?!?!

  • Dr Robotnik anyone?

  • Its called progress, it'll only improve from now on.

  • Wheelchair is far more practical, unless this is for parapleadgics or quadriplidgics who want to go mountain climping.

  • just use an electric wheelchair, not this wallace and gromit rip off!
