@hacksign000 Just when I was about to write exactly the same, I read your comment. It's strange, but the book was so... touching that I actually felt like I could understand him (even though I can't imagine the situation of a gelded man).
The men of this time were so perverse and this is horrifically disgusting. It is amazing to me how people have the nerve to call women whores and sluts but it is the men who personify what it is to be a whore and a slut they are the perverse one's.
The Greeks were open minded when it came to homosexuality, but it was not a custom. Hardly, or they never conquered the known world as they did. Alexander was surrounded by pimps, eunuchs, gay boys and whores. The story is that he was remarkably unaffected by them. And that makes sense when you consider he died young but not before he wept that there was nothing left to conquer. The pansy image does not fit Alexander. He was a man of action first.
the relationship between Hephaistion and Alexander was a very close friendship, like Achilles with Patroclos, like Damon and Feidias. Alexander wasnt gay, i am an historian and nothing can prove that. Alexander got married 3 persian princesses and he was addicted to women. Very wrong to beleive he was a gay. Greets from Greece
Yes, I agree that Alexander was not gay but he would have been a bi-sexual, all the same. Since there is strong evidence that he has liasons with both men and women.
He and emperor Hardian are the only ones who have gone down in history as bi-sexuals.
@sahajad You do not know history. Your statement that "He and emperor Hadrian are the only ones who have gone down in history as bi-sexuals" is totally wrong. Alexander's father, Phillip of Macedonia, was murdered by a male lover who was jealous of another of Phillip's male lovers. This is historical fact. I posted a video listing many of the great ancient Greeks who had male lovers. Love between two men was considered a gift from the Gods.
@sahajad You need to study history sahajad before you make wrong statements on YouTube comments. Just because you do not know the facts of history does not mean that you can mislead others through wrong statements on YouTube. There were many many homosexual and bi-sexual kings, generals, statesmen throughout human history. All of the Emperors of Rome had male lovers up through Emperor Constantine in the 4th century. This is historical fact.
@sahajad Alexander the Great got married officially 3women, had many mistresses in Greece be4, had 7 unofficial women in Persia and 380 women in a harem. If you think he had time for men, then its ur problem :) Besides, I wouldnt excpect a different answer from the bisixeuals here :) SMILE !!
You dope, I am a female and females are less bi sexual than men ! Besides I was only quoting the Historians .
You of course have exaggerated a lot here. According to the Historians the harem belonged to the former Persian King ,which Alexander rarely visited !
Besides Hephaistion and Bagoas did exist in Alexander's life ,whether you liked it or not !
This video is totally awesome. The slow motion editing, and it 's timing with the music, excellent. In the histories of Alexander, the relationship between Alexander and Bagoas is referred to in this manner: Bagoas is referred to as his ἐρόμενος (eromenos) his lover. Bagoas is the only person referred to in this manner.
@sahajad the 'song' "Step into this Room and Dance for Me" is by Madrugada. A Norwegian band from the 90's. The lead singer was Sivert Hoyem. No longer together after the dead of the main bass player Robert Buras. The last concert was on 2008. A great band to remember. Awesome music. This video is the perfect set of images for the seductive lyrics of the song. I am a woman and I still get turned on by the video. Go figure.
@saman248 I totally agree with you, saman248 - I am a woman, and this video makes me extremely hot. The men are beautiful - the moves so seductive - the music enhances the entire heady experience - would have loved to have been there - right in between those two. The dancer is one of the most sensual and beautiful men I've ever seen. And thanks for the info on the song/band - I'm going to see if I can buy the CD.
@saman248 You got that right, saman248....I've ordered the CD and am waiting for it to come in. I checked it out on Amazon.com and heard a bit of all the songs on the CD - they are all good. this one, however, leaves me weak. LOL - Want to come over and listen to it with me?
@saman248 LOL.....okay saman....I understand now. But you can't blame a girl for trying.....right? I mean....don't knockknock it until you've triedtriedit.LOL. Have a great day and I love the CD!!
Yes, it is taboo for the Muslims and may be in Africa. But not so much in India and former Persia ! It was tolerated over there, as Hindusim , Buddhism and Zoroastrianism do not comment on it.
Let's ALL start making the RIGHT statement regarding historical sexual orientation: "THE CONCEPT OF HETEROSEXUALITY AS IT EXISTS TODAY DID NOT EXIST IN THE PRE-CHRISTIAN YEARS". Heterosexuality is a construct of Christianity and later by Islam. Get it right folks.
To all the stupid heterosexuals posting comments on YouTube saying: "the concept of Gay or Homosexual didn't exist in the pre-Christian years" <= you are full of bullshit! That kind of statement is just a stupid attempt to try and say: "oh, all those men having sex with men back in history just aren't like the faggots today". Well, any heterosexual making that kind of statement is full of shit!
Youre not actually understanding what they are saying.... they are trying to say that homosexuality was no different to heterosexuality therefore there was no stigma... i am probably more pro gay than you are and usually i would be up in the air about such comments but you have misunderstood
STALKA13, I do understand what they are saying very clearly. The people posting below are CORRECT, but their statements are INCOMPLETE. Here is the correct and complete statement: Exclusive heterosexual relationships and exclusive homosexual relationships that exist today did not exist in most major Mediterranean societies prior to 393 AD, when Roman Emperor Theodosius made Christianity (which adopted exclusive heterosexuality) as the state religion.
I totally agree with you there. I understand where you come from but you must choose your battles carefully, let the careless and uninfluencial comments pass and spend the time and effort on the ones that matter, otherwise people dont listen, like with the climate change critics, they ignore the facts and continue to be ignorant when it is stuffed in their faces. I would be very interested to see this video. Send me the link when you have finished it please
STALKA13, here in the U.S., education on Gay Rights issues started at the "bottom" and not at the "top". The "top" of government (i.e, the politicians), do not care about issues that affect only 2% to 3% of the population. The battle that we fight here in the U.S. is to get heterosexuals to understand that we Gays are just like them. That Gays too have families and live everyday normal lives. Several States have legalized Gay marriage, i.e., the people at the "bottom" are understanding.
STALKA13, here in the U.S., major Christain churches are beginning to accept Gays as members, clergy and even as bishops. I believe the majority of people are basically "good" and if you get them to stop and think about an issue, the majority will make "just" decisions. That is the reason I post on YT.
Human Rights are not "granted" by benevolent governments. Human Rights are granted or taken by the people at the "bottom". Just look at Iran. My battles on YT are worth the time and effort!
I am very glad that you posted this video clip from the director's cut on Alexander, because it clearly shows that people who lived in the great societies around the Meditternean were not "like" the exclusive heterosexuals of today. Exclusive sexual orientation was a product of Christianity and the edicts of Emperor Theodosius in 393AD, and later enforced by Islam too. The video makes people stop and think, which is why heterosexual bigots did not want these scenes in the movie!
@EROSGODOFGAYS Exactly my point of view. We share this opinion w/ Johnny Depp, who once said: I don´t care what gender I prefer, it´s not important for me. My views on religion, however, are none of your business. I see it in the same way. If I make love, I don´t care if it´s a man or a woman. It´s really unimportant. I am LOVING somebody and that´s important.
@EROSGODOFGAYS People nowadays make such a fuss about it, I really don´t understand why is so important if you love a woman or a man. I prefer men, but ifI met a nice woman. And BTW, I really DO NOT understand WHY the American audience laughed at this movie. This movie is genial and it really shows a great man with his flaws and qualities, which actually makes him humane )that´s what I loved a/b this movie).
@EROSGODOFGAYS BTW, the relationship between Hephaistion and Alexander was showed in a very sweet way. I seriously and madly fell in love with the movie. Oliver Stone is god. (Sorry up there, you know what I meant :-) ).
@Calucifer13 Unfortunately, the love scene between Hephaistion and Alexander was cut by Oliver Stone in the final released version. A group of heterosexual attorneys in Greece threatened to sue Stone and block the release of the movie if any homosexual scenes were included. It is sad that modern heterosexuals in Greece live in such a state of severe denial about the true history of their country and the love between men that was a large part of ancient Greece and much of the ancient world.
But you must know something - the Greece or Makedonia as portrayed in this movie is lost to us, perhaps forever. People and their way of thinking were different those days. The Greece were inhabited by different ppl those days, most of them had blonde hair, not dark - like now. Because a majority of today´s Greeks came to this land from a different state.
It´s the same with today´s Egyptians. Those are not the same Egyptians that guilt the pyramides in Giza or elsewhere. These people almost died off and were replaced by nomadic Muslims that came from southern parts of Africa. That´s why people don´t understand how could such an advanced society go so much down. Because today´s Egyptians have nothing in common with the old ones.
@Calucifer13 That is not quite true. DNA studies have been done on ancient Egyptian mummies and modern day Egyptians to determine regions of origin (e.g. a mix of Greek DNA from the immigrants who moved into Antinopolis) and studies have shown the vast majority of modern Egyptians to be direct descendants of ancient Egyptians with almost no differences in DNA.
No, there were no homosexual scenes between Hephaestion and Alexander, becuase Jared Leto has mentioned in his interview in 2005, that " if there were same sex scenes in this film, it would have been one of the best same sex scenes ever ! Stone only showed some scenes between Alexander and bagoas only !
@sahajad Yes but because in that time, the rules were different. Having a younger boy as a lover and guiding them to adult life was accepted but not having a lover of same age. But anyway, do you know why the movie felt a little scattered? It's because a team of highly homophobic lawyers who threatened the directors into cutting off the scenes that showed interaction between Alexander and Hephaestion because they felt it was demeaning to Alexander to have a lover the same age as him.
Many heterosexual historians, STALKA13 publish so called "academic works" and state that homosexuals of today are not the same as the ancient Greeks, Macedonians, Persians, Egyptian and Roman homosexuals, because the men in these ancient societies viewed sex with women or men as normal. These historians stop there and conveniently do not complete the statement that heterosexuality today is also not the same as in these earlier great civilizations. Do you now see the "spin" of bigotry?
STALKA13, the reason that bigoted heterosexual historians make the CORRECT but INCOMPLETE statement is because they can not acknowledge the valuable contributions of the ancient great societies in which love between men was accepted as normal while also condemning Gays today as "illegal sodomy". But is it quite "OKAY" for them to not complete the statement and let their readers ASSUME that people who are exclusively heterosexual today really are like the people of the great ancient societies.
So STALKA13, the great philosphers, kings, heroes and even the Gods themselves who took other men as their lovers just CAN NOT BE LIKE Gays today. We Gays are not allowed by heterosexuals today to rightfully claim our true heritage. Just look at what the Greek goverment did to the movie Alexander. They forced the producers to delete the love scene between Alexander and Bagoas, so that Gays today can not claim Alexander as being "GAY" and Alexander appears to be like heterosexuals today!
STALKA13, I intend to make and post a new video criticizing bigoted heterosexual historians who make this incomplete statement in their so called "academic" works as being deceptive, dishonest and a sham! People posting comments on your video need to understand the subtle point in this and stop using the same kind of incomplete statement for the same reason!
The concept of Gay or Homosexual didn't exist in the pre Christian years. Sexuality was regarded as a biological function of the human being. Therefore, sex was not only relegated to an exclusive gender. Alexander claimed that his desired for men came directly from his ancestor Achilles (whose love for Patroclos -first cousin and lover-is recited in Homer's Iliad).
Marriage in those days was done w the purpose of procreation, politics and most important lineage......
Alexander married Roxana and others but lived ALL his life with his beloved Hephaestion. After his dead, Alexander went into a terrible grief for months and forced everyone to mourn his loss. He even created the cult to Hephaestion in Egypt and build a temple to honor him. Hephaestion's death marked with sorrow and grief the last years of Alexander's life. He died few months later.
(a quick note, Phillip II, Alexander's father, it was rummored to had been assasinated by his own male lover).
The great music of the late group MADRUGADA, the beautiful sight of the amazing Bosch, and of course a good bottle of wine, couldn't make a better moment to remember.
I'm quite sure the great Robert Buras +RIP+ will be rejoicing in the other world after the sounds of his guitar is magically used in this seductive video.
Saludos
Gosh, since the very 1st time I saw this movie I thought Bagoas was much more beautiful than Alexander's wife and they should have been together! lol ^-^
Anyway, this video is great as well as the movie: love them both <3
yes, even he addmitted it. on his official website there are a few interviews. and as i know, he is now in a really serious relation with a guy. search and find out for yourself, if you don't believe me.
I love it, the music is so great I tried to find it, but it isnt anywhere. where did you find this song? Please, it is really beautiful and I am addicted on it :)
I was blown away by this part in the movie and love this video even more. The music is perfect and I love the slow-mo. All I want to know is, why are all the beautiful males always gay!!!! (Ville Valo and Johnny Depp aside of course.)
Hi, I know that about Colin Farrell. Sorry, I guess I didn't word my response correctly. I meant that Francisco is beautiful. (Colin is more handsome in my opinion, rather than beautiful). LOL
Francisco in deed is a piece of art....beautiful, gorgeaus, he is seducing males and females at the same time...pity he is gay...he could be bisexual for the sake of girls...:P
well....if you have the luck to live in the same country with Francisco, you have the right to hope....as for me..i live at the world's end...noone heard about my country...so...i'd rather not hope :P (only in my dreams)
Because in ancient time nations and cultures didn't have to worry about global influences and powerful organize religions. Fear is a great weapon. Many if not all new and old world cultures have been destroyed by the major religions sense of right and/or wrong. Please research it for yourself.
I meant it in the special case of persians, as here they show them as 'gayer' than the greeks and now they got the most homofobe govenment. Thanks, i will research it
Eh... I think it was too slow. I enjoyed it, but, it took forever to get over with. I applaud your attempt to slow everything down but... it was just too slow. And the song felt so country which, for me, at least, took away from the beauty of the video.
Ironically, the slower tempo chosen by ankhh probably is more authentically ancient Perisan than Stone's original. Traditional dances most likely were very stylized and not so overly erotic as the dance's end in the film.
that"androgynous" guy look soo much like a grl i swear that's wt i thought wn i first saw his face but then i knew he was a man"a very very sexy man" n he was totally suducin alexander n no wonder alexander was suduced by him he's hot
I've been meaning to comment on this video for a couple of months; I adore the combination of the slowing down of Bagoas' sensual dance and the earthy eroticism of the song by Madrugada. I've been re-reading "The Persian Boy," and the gorgeous visuals of Francisco Bosch and your editing for this video often come to mind. Kudos!!
Oh yes, and more. It's my all-time favorite Mary Renault book; plotty and erotic and incredibly heartfelt. Her descriptions are gorgeous, the tapestry of characters and geography beautifully woven together. Highly, highly recommended. :)
Yes, it is! It's my favorite Mary Renault book as well. Definitely recommend, it's a great intro to the style of her other books too. You can just feel the extra care she took with The Persian Boy because of how much she loved the subject and history - she wrote a historical biography of Alexander as well.
I've adored this song and video for a couple of months and, like you, was haunted by it. With the sensual, throaty bass voice, it does sound like Leonard Cohen, but it's actually "Step Into This Room and Dance for Me" by Madrugada from their album "The Nightly Disease."
Bagoas dancing and this song will forever go together for me. Hope this helps! :)
Actually it helped me. The song does sound similar to Leonard Cohen but you could tell it's not him. I can't believe I thought it was really him before and thank you for telling me of who sang this song. This song is amazing and I would not be surprise that some adore this song and the video.

Basically, this Bagoas character doesen't look like a man, but then he doesen't look like a girl either. He looks like a gremlin, a gargoyle or either a very, very, very, ugly girl.
Rocky; Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me who does the song. I appreciate it soo much. Fortunately ankhh was kind enough to let me know also. God this band, the voice of the singer is just some of the best music I've heard in a long time. Thanx again! Manic..
The song is sorta creepy..

Calucifer13 1 year ago
It´s the same with today´s Egyptians. Those are not the same Egyptians that guilt the pyramides in Giza or elsewhere. These people almost died off and were replaced by nomadic Muslims that came from southern parts of Africa. That´s why people don´t understand how could such an advanced society go so much down. Because today´s Egyptians have nothing in common with the old ones.
Calucifer13 1 year ago
@Calucifer13 That is not quite true. DNA studies have been done on ancient Egyptian mummies and modern day Egyptians to determine regions of origin (e.g. a mix of Greek DNA from the immigrants who moved into Antinopolis) and studies have shown the vast majority of modern Egyptians to be direct descendants of ancient Egyptians with almost no differences in DNA.

@EROSGODOFGAYS Really? That's so cool. I always thought that they held no relation to Ancient Egyptians. Also your username makes me extremely lol-y.

@EROSGODOFGAYS
No, there were no homosexual scenes between Hephaestion and Alexander, becuase Jared Leto has mentioned in his interview in 2005, that " if there were same sex scenes in this film, it would have been one of the best same sex scenes ever ! Stone only showed some scenes between Alexander and bagoas only !
sahajad 1 year ago
@sahajad Yes but because in that time, the rules were different. Having a younger boy as a lover and guiding them to adult life was accepted but not having a lover of same age. But anyway, do you know why the movie felt a little scattered? It's because a team of highly homophobic lawyers who threatened the directors into cutting off the scenes that showed interaction between Alexander and Hephaestion because they felt it was demeaning to Alexander to have a lover the same age as him.
Serpentlair 9 months ago
Many heterosexual historians, STALKA13 publish so called "academic works" and state that homosexuals of today are not the same as the ancient Greeks, Macedonians, Persians, Egyptian and Roman homosexuals, because the men in these ancient societies viewed sex with women or men as normal. These historians stop there and conveniently do not complete the statement that heterosexuality today is also not the same as in these earlier great civilizations. Do you now see the "spin" of bigotry?
EROSGODOFGAYS 2 years ago
STALKA13, the reason that bigoted heterosexual historians make the CORRECT but INCOMPLETE statement is because they can not acknowledge the valuable contributions of the ancient great societies in which love between men was accepted as normal while also condemning Gays today as "illegal sodomy". But is it quite "OKAY" for them to not complete the statement and let their readers ASSUME that people who are exclusively heterosexual today really are like the people of the great ancient societies.
EROSGODOFGAYS 2 years ago

People posting comments on your video need to understand the subtle point in this and stop using the same kind of incomplete statement for the same reason!

was alexander gay???
ragoosh 2 years ago

Thank you for sharing beauty !

I'm confused :S how could it be like that in ancient days when today homosexuals are hangued in Iran?
ramabude 3 years ago 2
Because in ancient time nations and cultures didn't have to worry about global influences and powerful organize religions. Fear is a great weapon. Many if not all new and old world cultures have been destroyed by the major religions sense of right and/or wrong. Please research it for yourself.
lvube 3 years ago 16
I meant it in the special case of persians, as here they show them as 'gayer' than the greeks and now they got the most homofobe govenment. Thanks, i will research it
ramabude 3 years ago 2
Eh... I think it was too slow. I enjoyed it, but, it took forever to get over with. I applaud your attempt to slow everything down but... it was just too slow. And the song felt so country which, for me, at least, took away from the beauty of the video.
lordnorton 3 years ago 2
Ironically, the slower tempo chosen by ankhh probably is more authentically ancient Perisan than Stone's original. Traditional dances most likely were very stylized and not so overly erotic as the dance's end in the film.

Kudos!!
Thevina32 3 years ago 2
Eek! I really wanna read "The Persian Boy"...is it as good as it seems? *.*
PrincessSushii 3 years ago
Oh yes, and more. It's my all-time favorite Mary Renault book; plotty and erotic and incredibly heartfelt. Her descriptions are gorgeous, the tapestry of characters and geography beautifully woven together. Highly, highly recommended. :)
Thevina32 3 years ago 2
Plot and smut in the same book... sounds good to me! :3
PrincessSushii 3 years ago
Yes, it is! It's my favorite Mary Renault book as well. Definitely recommend, it's a great intro to the style of her other books too. You can just feel the extra care she took with The Persian Boy because of how much she loved the subject and history - she wrote a historical biography of Alexander as well.

Who sang this song?? I'm thinking about Leonard Cohen who sang this song.
knightfox73 3 years ago
I've adored this song and video for a couple of months and, like you, was haunted by it. With the sensual, throaty bass voice, it does sound like Leonard Cohen, but it's actually "Step Into This Room and Dance for Me" by Madrugada from their album "The Nightly Disease."
Bagoas dancing and this song will forever go together for me. Hope this helps! :)
Thevina32 3 years ago
Actually it helped me. The song does sound similar to Leonard Cohen but you could tell it's not him. I can't believe I thought it was really him before and thank you for telling me of who sang this song. This song is amazing and I would not be surprise that some adore this song and the video.

Basically, this Bagoas character doesen't look like a man, but then he doesen't look like a girl either. He looks like a gremlin, a gargoyle or either a very, very, very, ugly girl.

That would be "androgynous".
And he definitely isn't ugly. :)
