I have to tell you all something: Lawrence sounds more like Dennis in the 70's & 80's than Dennis does now. Styx got rid of Dennis for 2 reasons: Dennis quit, and the rest of the band was tired of being secondary "actors" in Dennis' idea of a "band". All except Dennis were embarrassed by Kilroy. John, Chuck, Tommy, and JY wanted to be a rock band. Now,(John, RIP) they are doing what they always wanted. They are a rock band. And Chuck joins with them whenever possible.
Gowan still makes this group of folks calling themselves Styx sound like a cheap-bar cover band. If you want to hear the real singer of most of Styx' songs, go see the Dennis DeYoung 'music of Styx' show. August Zadra does better on Tommy's songs in that than helium-vocals-Larry does on Dennis' , as proven by this.

I love this song, it's so eerie sounding. I think Lawrence does a great job, but I have nothing to compare that to since DDY was apart from Styx before I was even born (wish I could've seen that). But from videos I've seen, he does pretty good at filling in! Todd's an octopus on the drums, and JY and Tommy are amazing as always. Ricky too.
This song is about the decline of the US, I love how Gowan cuts the note short right before the bridge, DeYoung has one of the greatist voice in Rock, Larry the Chipmunk is just an erand boy that can never fill DDY"s shoes.
@MIAMI1967 I understand how yyou like Deyoung's voice as he was amazing but to call Larry a chipmunk?..lol..Lawrence Gowan has an amazing voice as well...
I've listened to this song for many years, but never knew that it was about the Bicentennial. I always figured it was about some woman. I wonder where I was hiding my head all these years. I do like finding these things out though. I'll be seeing Styx in a couple weeks. Look forward to it. Saw them twice in the seventies.
If you've seen STYX with Dennis then this is garbage. Gowan isn't even close to the intense gripping vocals of DeYoung. It's ashame the group isn't the original members anymore. It's just not STYX to me without Dennis..........

@tdemars:Dennis sounds less like himself than Lawrence does. And Lawrence is twice the keyboard player as Dennis

@Quantanthead Based on some of the latter words I probably should have figured the song out. I just didn't put two and two together.
