@robertparmar No,no, this Is not 500series. This Is speed trial and technical researching prototype Shinkansen "FASTECK360S". These trainset were already retired in last year.
Fastech 360 is an experimental train. JR East will build a new model based on it, capable of running at 320 km/h. And so will JR Hokkaido. The Tohoku Shinkansen will be extended to Shin-Aomori in 2010, to Shin-Hakodate in 2015 and to Sapporo in 2020(?). It's a battle between airlines and trains on the Tohoku-Hokkaido Shinkansen.
I read that this Fastech 360 train runs at about 360kph maximum (faster than the fast Shinkansen 500) and things looking like ears come out of it to help emergency braking. I hope they are still working on the Maglev?
JR has decided to build the commericial Maglev line from Tokyo (or Shinagawa) to Nagoya by 2025. Construction cost = 5.1 trillion yen (44 billion USD). It will be extended to Osaka. They have started geological surveys in the Akaishi Mountains.
LakesideParkFC. Thanks for that,it is incredible news.I have so much respect for what Japan can achieve. After being there on holiday and my relative working for years in Tokyo,I know the Japanese mean business!! Of course we all know the train in the picture is a Fastech 360,which is slower than the Maglev.
LakesideParkTC. I am really delighted and appreciative of all this extremely interesting information. Any information any time on this subject I so much appreciate. I am a very big fan of Japan and it's wonderful rail system etc.
You are welcome! According to the Mainichi Shimbun two days ago, JR would likely pick Shinagawa as the starting point, rather than Tokyo, Shinjuku or Shin-Yokohama. Neither Tokyo nor Shinjuku has enough underground space. JR would basically pay all the cost, except for stations which would be funded by local governments. I think their goal is to beat airlines. They must be quite confident. Otherwise they wouldn't do it...
Yesterday the Cabinet approved a ten-year nationwide development plan, which mentions the Maglev Chuo Shinkansen. I take it as a final green light to JR Tokai. Let's wait and see how things uphold. Tokyo-Osaka = just one hour. It's like a dream come true for us.
I hope I will return to Japan and travel on this new train some day. Has the Maglev developement now stopped in Japan? I know it would be difficult running them because of earthquakes. I know Japan holds the 581 kph world record!!
