I TOO WAS THERE, BEST GAME EVER, I will never ever forget it. I was so upset because so many of the so called fans were already making their way out of there, too bad their loss they missed the best part of the game. We screamed, yelled and high fived people we didn't even know all the way to the parking lot. The beginning of their first ever championship, Sean "Ninja" Elliott you rock. From the Arena to the Dome to now the AT&T center. Best team ever.
I WAS THERE THAT NIGHT. I was there every night...year after year of heartache. Still we returned hopeful. This night appeared as though the spurs would blow it again. Trailing the entire game, with only nine seconds left, Sean Elliot, who we later find out is severely sick and desperately needing a kidney transplant, not only hits the near impossible shot, but pushes back at the tide, and gives the spurs the momentum to redeem themselves forever.MONSTROUS ROAR and not a dry eye in the building.
man i remember this. It just so happens my mom is from portland and i was born in san antonio, im a huge spurs fan and when elliot took that shot i screamed "NO!" cause all we needed was a 2 and that looked like a bad shot. I just ran circles around my mom screaming when it hit
When that hit I ran around too, I remember where I was and what I was eating and drinking too to this damn day! That shyt was just crazy, I ran all over that room to the bathroom and then sat back and watched the rest play out, I knew it was over then.
Offense doesn't win Defense does look at Celtics Lakers but i think that the spurs played lozy due to injury to Ginobli Duncan being sick and Tony taking all that driving punishment! p.s. when they are all healthy they could light up a board!!!
I agree. Plus the international commitment to their country's teams that many Spurs are into for the Olympics. A lot of them are tired because they have played ball non stop for about the past 4 years. Rest for a lot of the Spurs is well deserved to go at another world title. Spurs-Celtics may not be a great rivalry from a TV standpoint but it would make a great series.
It was 100 times better if you were there. It brought back hemisfair arena celebration, people were hugging and jumping over chairs, strangers and friends, it was crazy. And i was there.
This was one of the greatest moments of my life. Being a Spurs fan for so long and following them every step of the way. We were down by 17 points in that game and I was only watching because that is what I did as a fan. I was laying on my bed not giving them a shot to win this game only until after this shot was made. Without using my hands my body just leaped out of the bed. Tears came to my eyes, because at that moment I knew that they would win it all. Thanks Sean for the memories.
Yeah I remember it well, with a hangover upstairs and a beer in my hand and some damn tv dinner just watching this hoping they could win it... Then he hit that damn shot and I ran around the room into the bathroom and back out just wilding out.. One of the best moments I will never FORGET. Title #1.
That was a great game. We were there all heartborken b/c they were getting pounded by the Blazers, but that run they made, and those six threes by Sean started a run of excellence in San Antonio. I really think that play helped shape the mentality of the organization into what it is today. They went from being close, but neve winning, like Dallas and Phoenix, to a team who made no excuses, and shaped their destiny.
Spurs are nice, i hope the Celtics go up againts them...i'm a celtics fan but have much respect for the spurs. if we're playing them of course i will root againts them and viciously criticize them but other than that, the Spurs are amazing. Hopefully the Celtics will make the Finals, and the Spurs will too.
This video doesn't do that shot justice. What made that shot so amazing was that Sean Eliott's heels were over the sideline. If he would have put his heels down and stood flat on his feet, he would have been out of bounds. During the game, there were replays of the referee actually leaning over and looking at Elliott's feet to make sure he wasn't standing on the line.
Word up , the 80's Celtic had some cockiness, you HATED THEM. The Spurs you hate them because 1.) they have no rivalry, 2.) the only reason you hate them is because you pay $75.00 for a good ticket and they bore the hell out of you and you feel ripped off. Thanks for agreeing.
Stop your hate, Manu and damn Parker are far from boring, thats a thing of the past and you idiots just keep it going for some reason like it's 01 or something. Over 100ppg this year, this team is far from boring.
this 1 dislike came from either a blazer fan or the team itself!

Here's the formula - more dead soldiers (tools) = more profits for the corporate interests investing in war!!
So all you tools just keep firing those bullets and missiles. Uncle Sam will be happy to send your family and friends
a hugely inflated bill for the costs! And they can pay for the funeral when your dead ass comes home in a casket!
FYI- No matter what they tell ya-the US has no plans to end the war-NONE! They're counting on a lot more of you
tools dyin so don't dissapoint!

I ran around my living room screaming my head off when this happened. I wish the clip here showed his feet almost on the out of bounds line. <3 Spurs

The bigger choke came next season, when they blew a 16 point lead against the Lakers in game 7 of the WCF.
mclev 2 years ago
also they had intimidation after 1998 because BOTH duncan and robinson averaged 20+ pts, 10+ rbs, 2.5 +blk and also shot 50%+ fg....
the scariest duo IMO...

they won that title that year by luck
liweiwu007 2 years ago
they won because of the twin towers.
BOTH duncan & robinson had 10+ rpg!
BOTH duncan & robinson had 2.5 bpg!
the starting lineup had consistent options as all starting five averaged 10+ ppg.
the bench was horrible though.
but that team was all about defense and they had the players to do it
