I wonder if the melodic parts were all generated algorithmically with max or something. It sounds similar to some of their more recent work on Oversteps, even if the individual sounds are much different.
the more i listen to this the more i realise what a work of genius it is. it has a strange sense of humour to it. definitely reminds me of orbitals the box
seems like there's a lot of references to midi sounds here or oldschool stuff here. the brush kit setting. timpani. not much dsp really going on that I can tell (what does that count tho)
lots of sustain... almost a similar timbral field of orbital's "the box" slow intro.. from the cd, not the video.
@sfd1976 when i made that comment, i'm not usually so matter of fact about stuff i'm not %100 about? Brown didn't tell me that himself, a lad he lived with when track made. that yamaha machine, workstation's an odd way for me describe it, again, as i kinda remember being told that it was some kinda general midi device, a small thing, kinda thing maybe used by a trad musician for stage backing or demo backing. something like that could easily have an R8'y gong on it. maybe story bollocks anyway
@Rutgerwhooer oh yeah, incase any of you know ae, don't tell em i'm going round splurging tit bits of stuff i know or might know. i don't generally! maybe i'd had a drink when i made that comment. anyway, they have the same kit that anyone else can get their hands on, just dead good at it, mad angle, creative, focussed, brainy etc. get to work boys and girls!
i like how each layer of the song accents the others, and how they slide right in to a different sound, i only wish the rest had fallowed suit again and transitioned every 2 minutes or so.
yes!

oh yes, i LOVE this track. one of the more bizarre and out-of-left-field autechre tracks, and that's saying something.

I love how this track evolves. From a sort of primitive sounding haywire to almost ambient.

i agree. being a previous owner of an mc-303 groovebox, i could SWEAR i hear presets from that little box in there, man.

Rob did this one by himself. It was all done on a small Yamaha workstation.
Rutgerwhooer 2 years ago
@Rutgerwhooer really? I'm distinctly hearing the Roland R8 gong with the roll function at the beginning.

great track. like how the momentum stumbles, then sits into a more backward beat. diff but classic autechre.

great song we used to say the first part sounded like mario bros but the part @ 1:45 or so reminds me of a bamboo garden. amazing...

It starts out sounding like some sort of orchestral ballad and then eventually puts that ethereal, electronic twist on things.

definitely a memorable track. 1.50 on sounds like Wild West salloon music on acid.
