@leafblight27 I'm amazed people still comment on this old video. Anyway, I used the Japanese version of the game because it hadn't been released in the US yet. The codes were hacked and this video was uploaded right after the Japanese version of the game came out. Also, the character names -are- Kefka and Leo. I didn't swap sprites, I made gameshark/codebreaker codes that modify which characters are in each position. Kefka and Leo happen to have character data because they are in battle scenes.

you can give Kefka the magic command, but the game must not be programed for him to actually learn spells. It sucks, all he can do is summon, notice he never actually used a spell.

An extra dungeon, able to save after beating the game (you can get inf. Ragnaroks and ultima swords this way) Tons of items were renamed (Dirk became Dagger) Some spells were renamed (Fire2 became Fira) Holding B to run (combine with sprint shoes for 4x speed)

@Saturnstales I don't know if Gameshark or any other device will let you do this. You have to Hack the Rom image itself, you can actually do all kinds of crazy things like change people abilities and have multiple illuminas etc. The only way I know how to do it is via ROMS for PC Emulators. Then you use one of a dozen premade patching programs.

since Kefka has a victory animation, does that mean data for him as a playable character exists, only unavailable? or did you hack that in too?

That animation exists as Kefka casts spells when he opposes you in battle and has to raise his arms (when he fights you outside the sealed cave he will be in the human form rather than monster form and casts spells in that battle).

The reason why you can use Kefka is that fight with Sabin, Cyan, and Shadow (if you got him and he's still around) in the Magitek camp. And some other little in battle animations with Kefka. (Instead of his "boss" sprite) But he doesn't have any commands and he's always supposed to Attack and run away when he takes enough damage.

I said right in the description that it was hacked. From what I have seen looking through the game data and ram, I don't think there are any new playable characters. Kefka has Gestahl's portrait in the menu, and Gestahl's battle sprites are messed up, they are definitely out. Also, none of them (including leo) show up in the party menu, and if you force it to show them the game hangs. The video is just to show that Kefka and Leo are obtainable with codes, and they are more or less complete.

HACKED. Why would Kefka join the party when he's the final boss of the game? As for Leo, I heard a rumor he was revivable, but he could just as easily be hackable too, so we can't know for sure. Gestahl was also rumored, but considering the trend is you only get 6 letters to name a character and Gestahl has 7, it's unlikely.

Well in Final Fantasy X, you fight with Seymour and he's a final boss. In Final Fantasy VII you fight with Sephiroth and he is the final boss.
