@mytoobusr To me, when McCartney was accosted by the journalists being asked about Lennon's death, he seemed genuinely shocked and didn't quite know what to say. They had already had encounters with the media which were negative and difficult. He probably just wanted to get away on his own to think about things. As for the L/M songwriting partnership, all fans knew which were Paul's and which were John's songs and it was just a matter of informing the ignorant as to who wrote what.

In fact it seems he wanted to do the complete opposite. Saying, Yeh..its a drag' is just plain cold and callous, he probably had not got over the "how can you sleep at night" song. @mytoobusr You make a couple of good points. I still find it hard to believe he had no feelings for John. I've seen an interview where he is filling up with tears talking about it. As for his keeping busy maybe you are right; but people deal with bereavement differently-- some prefer to keep busy to take their minds off things, while others will stay behind closed doors inconsolable. I can't imagine what it must be like to be the mega-stars they were and still behave "normally".

one common bond I think they both had besides both being musical genuises is they were both very insecure people ..!!! for paul to get up tight about some book writer saying john was more great is kind of childish... and john and paul were both like that ... that made there realtionship very complex but also helped to create some great art having that creative competitive tension interwined with mutal respect in some ways but in the end it helped to self destruct the realtionship..!!!

I've never seen an interviewer more in love with an interviewee in my life. I was half expecting her to rip open her blouse at any moment and offer herself to him.

As for the interview, as someone who has lost, I can say that these are the words of someone who has been dealing with a lot of pain. You kind of have to be "cool" about it and say "listen, he wasn't perfect either," which can come across as uncaring, but in the end you're the one who wakes up in the middle of the night with tears.

I was happy to hear this interview. He NEVER was too good at public grief and always put his foot in it when people died: When his mum died he said "what will he do without her money?" When stu sutcliffe died, he tried to console stu's mum saying: " My mum died and in one year I was completely over it!" john dies and he says "Drag innit?" He means well, just gets all jammed up and can't quiet come up with the proper words to be able to hide what he really feels.
