  • Back when themes weren't synthesized. I love the violins and the bells.

  • I just love this opening! A classic!

  • I remember my mother chasing us out the room, but whenever she got entrenched in a sceen we would sneak back in and sometimes sit by her. She wouln't realise we were there until the commercial break, then she would "the show isnot for you, are you too young" hahaha Love the book!!!

  • Agree. This reminds me of coming home from grammar school at lunch with my Mom watching at the kitchen table. I actually watched it myself

  • PROBABLY REMINDED YOU OF THE ADAMS FAMILY.. THE HAND IN THE 80'S BELONGED TO MY SISTER IN LAW.. SHE WAS PAID.. TWELVE THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR FOR THAT 2 ND SCENE...

  • @eresfsfsfsf $12,000.00 would have been a lot of money at the time,

  • This should be used for the show's final week on ABC.

  • the chew will suck i'm not watching a DAMN thing on ABC or Disney anymore i'm (not even syd. program or local programing and/or news on my abc affliate) not even watching GMA, ABC news with Diane Sawyer, Nightline, or Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!

ALL my news will come from NBC ♪NBC let's all be there!♪

  • Wouldn't it be amazing if they played this opening on AMC's final ABC episode this Sept? I'd be crying before we got out of the starting gate...

  • Classic..

  • I so love the Soaps back then, old episodes of 60's, 70's ,80's and some of the 90's, thank God for Soap Net, Soaps are not what they used to be, writers and Producers have tried every idea, now they are vulgar, boring and watered down, no respect, everything has been tried already.

  • I hope they use this open for the final episode ... such a classic.

  • @staytunedfor I agree, I wished it had never been replaced.

  • I'm sooo upset this show is being cancelled!!!! I was seriously ready to cry when I found out! I just got hooked back on it again too!

  • All My Children. Will be gone this September 2011. We'll never forget the show especially the lovely Susan Lucci as Erica Kane. R.I.P. AMC 1970-2011

  • AMC was just cancelled...I'm really distraught right now...

  • Some of you people are nuts! A simple hand opening a book, the book itself, or a lamp on a table "creep you out"????? Get a major grip already!

  • I first started watching AMC regularly as a kid with my mom back in 1986 I think, so I remember this them very well. It played up until 1988, and then changed in 1989 with the falling faces, which got revised several times over the years.

  • Me too whose hand this that

  • OMG....i cant handle this LOLOLOL

  • Ther have been a lot of grandma posts for this theme. Mine used to watch this too and when I came to stay with my grandparents for the summer I knew it was 1 o'clock when this theme played. Brings back memories!!!!

  • This is when All My Children was the SHIT!!!!!!!!!!

  • All those snow days off school are coming back to me.

  • simple elegance. i would get home from school and watch this show!

  • Do you have the extended version? I don't remember watching with my grandma, even though she did watch AMC, I watched it with my mom.

  • Comment removed

  • me to - I thought of my grandmother

  • Me three. Mine was obsessed with this show.

  • I clicked on this, heard the opening music...and immediately thought of my grandmother.

Apparently half the people who posted also thought of their grandmothers...lol

    wonderful memories.

does anyone remember the very somber announcer who, at each commercial break would bellow:

"All My Children, will continue...(he'd pause for like 5 freaking seconds)...IN A MOMENT".

  • @mnmcv1 I remember that pause too, its funny how your phrazed it lol

  • In the early days, the opening billboard (hand opening the book, and, no, it wasn't Agnes Nixon's hand) was taped anew for every single episode. It was eventually filmed while Rosemary Prinz was still working on the show, and then transferred to tape daily through telecine. My friend, John Kelly Genovese (whom I haven't seen in many years, and whom I would like to get back in touch with) had a soap magazine with a story about the "hand model," entitled, "They Call Her Miss Page Turner."

  • I guess when they tried to make the show more youthful. But they had a good thing going with great characters like Liza, Jessie, Jenny, Greg, and Angie. That was proof that they needed to write good material. Now AMC is on life support. Erica Kane, one of the greatest roles in the history of the soaps, seems more like an aging hooker. Susan Lucci should have walked away from this role years ago.

  • AMC ruled everything back in the day esp with Erica/Silver, Greg/Jenny/Liza/Jesse/Angie, Brooke/Tom et al. It was - and is - a very well done show.

  • Yeah. I remember that. Everybody talked about this show in those days, it was really big. I'd hear people on the phone saying Erica was wrong, I can't believe she did that. I would think, "who's Erica?"

Who's Adam?" Slowly I caught on to why this was so big. Poor Adam. The women are always falling all over him, but he always manages to mess it up. What is he doing with Annie Rayan. That aint gonna work. I would have chose Erica.

  • remember the break after part one? the actors would freeze, and the camera went to a still photo of the book. Then the announcer would say (I think the announcer was Hugh Franklin who played Phoebe's husband Charles Tyler) "All My Children will continue ..... in a moment".

  • love it. it's simply the best opening (after the original "As the World Turns" opening). Yes, it is Agnes Nixon's hand. I was shocked in 1990 when they went to a new theme. It was the beginning of the end. AMC sucks now.

  • Yes, once they went to a new theme it was the end of an era. When my favorite soap, The Edge of Night, switched to a techno-style theme, it felt like the end. And it was since the show was cancelled there after. The produers of Y&R were smart to bring back the original theme.

  • OMG--9400 ernie,, u hit the nail on the head,,lol,,,this is the first time i hear thhis intri i 20 yrs and all i thought of is my grandmother ,,,,curled up under her arm on the couch,, as soon as i heard this i started to cry,,thinking of grandma,,,thnk u so much for the memories.

  • I grew up on this jingle, almost every afternoon

  • As did I! I hear the new one every afternoon & up until a few days ago, I literally had NO idea that it was the AMC theme! The minute you heard that beautiful orchestra, you knew what show was coming on, not anymore!!!!!

  • This so reminds me of my grandmother.I would get home from school everyday and run to her house for snacks(she lived next door) and she would always be watching this show, she is gone now but this will always remind me of her.

  • @9400ernie My grandmother and great grandmother watched me as a child while my mother worked. Both were loyal viewers of AMC OLT L and GH... even Ryan's Hope and Loving when they were on. I miss them both terribly and have often come just to look at and listen to these old opening... it even brings tears to my eyes sometimes. So sad to learn of the cancellation of these beloved shows. Thank God for youtube and precious memeories~

  • So nostalgic. My grandmother has an old photo book that has the same font as the one on here. Same kind of border and flowers in all the corners, though. The first page just had the word Memories but with the same font and color. I found it in the basement some years ago and I thought about my childhood and her. Watching this, I can even smell the old book and my grandmother's old house from when I was a kid. thank you, wedge, for giving me that back for a moment.

  • @ksb78 Just listening to that opening and seeing that book. My goodness, it just really does bring back a flood of memories--where you lived, when you got married, when your children were little babies. I can see myself in that first little apartment getting all the housework done so I could watch my show. If life could have remained so simple! So sweet and innocent!!

  • Nice vid, Hey does anyone know where I can get caught up on the last 12 years?

  • Wow this is great.

  • I remember this AMC opening theme fondly when I was a kid. It was very basic compared to some of the other soap openings in the 80s.

  • you know the hand who opened this book used to scare me as a kid? I don't know why, but it freaked me out.

  • lol me too

  • lol my grandmother hated THAT DAMN bookl as she called it but she loved to watch this show. thank you for posting and giving me funny memories of gram.

  • Alice Nixon, the creator of All My Children. Thank her...it was HER hand.

  • me three!

  • @njlee8785 It never scared me in fact that was the first AMC opening I saw when I was a kid.

  • @njlee8785 The hand that opened the book belongs none other than the series creator, Agnes Nixon.

  • @njlee8785 do u know what would be even more scarier...if that the book opened by itself with no hand. THAT'S scary. Sorry, i hope i didnt mean to scare you

  • @njlee8785 thats cause the hand is disembodied, which is why it freaked you out. sorry for my analysis ;)

  • @njlee8785 LOL! Dark Shadows opening used to scare the Hell out of me...

  • All My Children was the best soapopera of that day along with One Life To Live. I was a big fan in those days of Erika Kane and Vicki/Nicki. There can never be another All My Children. When the book opened it added to the feeling of a continuing story. In those days, you would couldn't help wondering what was going to happen next episode.

  • this opening is better than the one they have now. I like the classic openings.

  • i always wondered who's hand that was.

  • LOL same here. I aways thought the page inside the book looked weird too. Acually the whole intro gave me weird vibs as a kid right down to the lamp on the right.

  • memories memories.......

  • Jesse and Angie are back.

  • wow do you have the 1980s opening theme for gh and oltl too if you do up load them.

  • thats the one I remember

  • wow this takes me back to wheen i was in school and i hed my mom tape it for me if you have the early opening thems for general hospital and one life to live for the 1980s upload thanks.

  • wow this is graet do you have the early 1980s opening themes for gh and oltl if you do upload them.

  • My very favorite AMC theme of all!!!

  • This was when All My Children was the best. I haven't watched since the 90s. Every once in a while I tune in for a couple of minutes and can't believe what it has become. Sad, but the show I used to love is gone. I wish SoapNet would re-run the classic 80s episodes.
