  • some much angrier in those days

  • Holy shit. I've been listening to you for three years.

  • "yeah... yeah, album" lmao

  • where is Julian Plenti - Julian plenti is skyscraper. ._____. , come on ! D: its a great album

  • he's very artsy-fartsy intellectual-carricature but I like this guy a lot. I love how he goes "Okay fellas, gettin to top3 territory here !" and he gets all close to the camera haha !

I changed positions on my chair when I heard em say that lol.

  • "...jerking-off in your ears with solos and shit." I snorted.

  • "There's no jerking-off in your ears with solos and shit"

Fantano, you should say shit like that more often. I laughed like a motherfuck.

  • this this this thing

  • wow what a great year in music

  • whats the name of the band in #12?

  • @6mbl A Hawk And A Hacksaw - Délivrance

  • Trust me, your taste in music is amazing.

  • "Yeah album!!!" .....hahaha!

  • "jerkin off in your ears with solos and shit"

    that was great.

  • This shit is the shit! Holy crap!

  • Your videos help me discover so much great music. And that, I love. Thank you for these awesome reviews.

  • Review Cleric - Regressions! Just give it a chance! I bet you'll enjoy it!

  • "jerkin off in your ears with solos and shit" this is why im gay for anthony fantano

  • One album you missed is Wolfgang Amadeus phoenix which was defiantly a great album released in 2009 in my opinion at least

  • I fucking love you

  • Feels like 2 and 1 should have switched. You fucking love Sunn

  • wat abot lady ga ga!??

  • I Love The Band Was Called The Unicorns

  • Blak Future #1

  • i sometimes respect your taste anthony. you have a great knowledge BUT... Only revolutions... and THE RESISTANCE?

  • Don't fully agree with your tastes, but I appreciate the passion you clearly have for music.

  • ...Only Revolutions...Life Starts Now...Dear Agony...

  • how about the raconteurs dude?

  • monoliths and dimensions was pretty dope, i like the fact that it took them a long time to record everything and there's only 4 tracks. excessive quality over quantity

  • @skateNappreciate yeah but those 4 tracks equals to around 50 minutes of music if not more... Monoliths and Dimensions is an amazing album, both as a metal record and an avant garde record.

  • WHERE THE FUC KIS BIFFY CLYRO'S ONLY REVOLUTIONS?!

  • (in no order) my top 5 albums ever:

Nirvana - Nevermind (i don t think it s overrated AT ALL)

The Stooges - The Stooges (i dig garage rock)

Sonic Youth - Confusion is Sex (just a mess of noise... perfect)

Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine (perfectly layered)

    The D4 - 6TWenty (i said i dig garage rock)

  • It looks like a very decent list. I don't even know half of the albums you pointed but the other half I know are great LPs. I'm glad you kicked the over-hyped "xx" (which was mentionned almost everywhere whereas it's just a darkly cute record) out of your list. Of course Animal Collective has to be on Top 3 whatever choices are made. I'd make it #2 of my list, #3 being the almost perfect, compelling "Veckatimest", and my personnal peak: the raw, harsh, beautiful "Embryonic"" by The Flaming Lips.

  • @FemmeUrbane homie all of these bands i have never heard of........ and its not that great either this dude is jizzing himself over weird hipster experimental bands and he said vampire weekend is not that great, thats where i draw the line

  • wow you actually said shit in this one. appreciate the non-censorship.

  • i never heard of any of these

  • @wayneo7897WW you never heard of merriweather post pavilion? lol alright...

  • Are the first 6 seconds a refference to Marble Hornets?!!!

  • where do you buy your LPs? I cant find shit here in Mexico.

  • You were alot more aggressive here Anthony lol

  • Can't believe The Pains of Being Pure At Heart made this list. Such a weak debut form a promising twee pop band.

  • @AvantKarma did you even watch his review of the album? it should be no surprise that it made this list, after you see that review.

  • @Falco98 Actually I didn't start following Anthony until 2010, so I never really looked at his older reviews until now.

  • I liked the gaarden records.peeling compilation

  • dude whats up with all the hipster music...

  • I respect you man! You're real, down to earth, and partial enough to really listen to with consideration.

I thought I was the only one who felt that way about Mono. I grew up on EITS, they're very dear to me. I only been listening to Mono since 2009. I listen to everything chronologically of course. EITS All of a Sudden really effected me; they brought out the big guns. But man, what Mono does can only be explained as supreme divinity. Hymn and Palmless Prayer blow me away!

  • Your use of the word "tenfold" has increased tenfold

  • And If you're so obsessed with unknown artists, why didn't you at least put The Incident by Porcupine Tree on this list?

  • dude wtf

  • do y'all actually buy a record album? Cuz everytime i hit the cashier only to realize im broke as fuck.

  • Name-dropping the most obscure bands doesn't make you hip or cool. I've watched your reviews and you know absolutely nothing about music and I hate your fucking face and voice.

  • @MusicForLife3000

*EVERYBODY MAKE SOME CLAPS TO THIS IDIOT! YEAHHH!@#*

Seriously, dude. what do you want for this comment? a prize?

if "music is your life", let THIS dude, Fantano, to express his love 'bout his favorite albums of that year.

(which i think it was really awesome too thanks to a large part of albums he talks in here)

I think ur just being jealous, immature and lame. ur not a prophet or somethin'.

  • This list sucks

couldn't you put more unknown artists?

where is my neighbour's band which wakes me up every night and that band which records their music in tunnel using a cellphone?

or at least the band which sold one album and even they bought that one?

  • LATFH!

  • i'm actually a little shocked to not find the horrors on here....

  • "yeah. yeah album." XD

  • hahahahaha come on camera

  • my no.1 favourite album of 2009 - the resistance - muse

my no.2 favourite album of 2009 - west ryder pauper lunatic asylum - kasabian.

no mention of either in this list and i think they might have actually one awards that year.

  • Imo the Antlers-Hospice is easily the most underrated album of 09

  • @glasmurf1 OVERrated

  • @glasmurf1 Underrated by TND maybe, most of the media dickrode the shit out of it though.

  • @glasmurf1 antlers suck

  • @Graaaainy

    wat

  • @glasmurf1 Exact opposite, Hospice is so overrated it's not funny.

  • 02:35 This LP is a BASTARD my friends! Oh God.

  • fever ray is good but in my opinion not awesome. in songs like '' when i grow up'' her voice is just too annoying for me. loved '' triangle walks'' and '' keep the streets empty''

  • some of the top 15 albums of all time: Why? SONG WRITING

Buffalo Springfield - Buffalo Springfield Again

The Replacements - Let It Be

    Neil Young - Zuma

    Beatles - Rubber Soul

Elvis Costello _ this years model

    Love - Forever Changes

    Graham Parker . Howlin' Wind

How I admire your lucid seductive arcane epic verbal skills; how I dislike your records. Best wishes from on older guy who can't understand.

  • fuck. the versatility. its so. versatile.

  • Been looking for reviews for this kind of music for a while. Brilliant, Fever ray definatly my album of 09 as well. By the way, have you heard of sleeps in oysters? they're a pretty obscure band, but they make great experimental folktronica which sounds like nothing else.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Man, You're awesome. Love the Fever Ray at Number 1!

  • Veckatimest????

    Embryonic????

  • Mono is what Ive always been looking for!! Thanks so much dude for that

  • whats this whole needle drops thing haha

  • Hey man, I came across your channel when I was checking out MNDR or something like that and I got to thank you for getting me the names of so many new bands to try out. Only been into some electro-pop since 2005 when I heard The Knife and just dove in. Grew up listening to all types of metal and alternative but am really enjoying the electronic phase I'm in now. Some of my favorite stuff is post-punk as well. I don't always agree but checking out your pics and sources keeps it interesting!

  • Your attempt to express how much you like Fever Ray are a testament to music's unexplainable power.

    Like the ending, hehe..

  • The Empyrean . John Frusciante,

DO NOT COMPARE WITH RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, FUCKING HATE THEM.

This for me is the greatest concept album of 2009, even the way the songs were numbered is great, it has two songs you can fucking sync and it sounds good two!!! WHO THE FUCK DOES THAT? it kinda hurts, really.. It's dreamy, ethereal, lot of reverb vocals, and interesting builds..

  • @Pancho449 That is a great album but his solo style is different from the style of the Chili Peppers as a group. To "FUCKING HATE" a band is quite petty especially one as talently as them

  • @rhcprh Okay, I will admit that it sounds fairly childish, I do not mean to say they are bad, they know how to make a decent album, let me rephrase that and say that I don't like them and how they have evolved musically, and I also dislike the way that they shadow John Frusciantes work, not on purpose, but still do.

  • @Pancho449 As my name implies i am a fan but still to say someone is more popular and therefore overshadows his work is not something that should bother you. Even if the band disbanded JF solo work wouldn't be radio hits. Popularity is not a measure of talent but talented artists can be popular. It is hard to deny Chad Smith as a drumming genius or Flea as one of the greatest bassists. They just don't appeal to you and that's fine. JF loves them and that should be enough for you

  • @rhcprh Well, I don't mean to say that the peppers have a negative effect on Johns music, I just wish he had a little more exposure so his music could be heard and appreciated as much as it should be, but wether that would be good or bad I do not know, John has made it clear that he wouldn't like it if the number of fans of his work got bigger, but that's just a thing I differ with him about. I'm not fond of Chad and Anthony, you know, skillwise, but you just CANNOT hate Flea, he's the best.

  • Phil Collins? Toto?!! TOTO??!!!! Thems fightin words! If I ever see you I'm gonna wash your mouth out with soap!

  • A FRICKIN' TUNE

  • my favorite album of 09 would have to be

    lymbyc systym - shutter release

rad/bomb/sick/dope no doubt my needle drop homies

  • the production budget was loose change under the couch.. lol. even though i don't always agree i appreciate what ur doing.

  • FEVER RAY, indeed! The Metal-head from within would also have to include Mastodon's "Crack the Skye" and Poison the Well's "The Tropic Rot" on my list for 2009. I also listened to Broadcast & The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age a lot for some reason.... and I can't forget The Flaming Lip's "Embryonic". Please review Solex's 2010 album with Jon Spencer and Cristina Martinez, "Amsterdam Throwdown, King Street Showdown". Thanks!

  • Papercuts-YCHWYW --> love it! <3 <3 <3

    thanks A.

  • I'm gonna listen to the Papercuts-album, haven't heard of it before but what you said got me interested..

A lot of screaming and aggression in this vid.. were you drunk already?

  • A pretty glaring omission here is Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport. As well as Islands - Vapours ( though I realize that one is a preference thing). Fever Ray is a very good choice for first, though, The Knife/Fever Ray are so accessible, yet weirdly they sound like no one else. Also, Wild Beasts released an album in '09, Two dancers, that didn't get nearly enough shine stateside. You should check it out, which I guess you didn't, since it din't make a top 15 which A Hawk and A hacksaw made.

  • haha oh man, i just love how energetic you are!

  • Your link to the expanded list is dead D:

  • Fever Ray rules. Not a bad list at all. My favorite not here would probably be The Antlers or Soap & Skin.

  • Love the enthusiasm u got for music and the show.... I dont always agree wit u.. But I respect ur enthusiasm and u say wat u feel

  • No Mastodon!!! Crack the Skye man!

  • jerkin off in your ear with solos and shit LOL that was amazing. thank you for that.

  • youve really come a long way man

  • gorilla manor came out in 2010

  • Yea, all these albums are shit. Especially Sunn O))). I could do what they do. Seriously.

  • @ImNIClK fag

  • I would've put Gorilla Manor in that list ... but that's just me.

  • #1 -Vektor Black Future

  • @TheAtomicDon FUCK YEAH!

  • YES! fever ray!

  • ALSO.....In 2009 I really was not collecting or listening to anything new...mostly listening to my old records, but there were some really good bands that stood out for me in the last year, such as Black Math Horseman, rediscovered MUSE, Mastodon ripped me apart, Shrinebuilder, Farflung, Darkthrone, Dead Man, Sleepy Eyes of Death...haven´t really been into the electronic scene much..Stateless is good...The Qemists- Hurt Less single rocks! But what I´m diggin now is Depressive Black Metal!

  • as a semi-music geek myself...I have to say....hmmmm, very poppy, very indie....but pretty good in all....never knew about Mono, so thanks on that one, with ya 100% on the SUNN issue...love your concert review on that, after the show it felt as if my mouth was speaking from within my skull and not from my face...know what I mean?.....Lastly, thank you immensely for turning me on to Fever Ray...WOW! HOLY SHIT! FANTASTIC! Yeah, all that! Although, I must say, animal collective, don´t get em?

  • Didn't you say Vektor would be better than half of all the albums of 2009? :/

  • this guy looks like a Mole Rat Hipster

  • Any best of 2009 list omitting Mother Mother's "O' My Heart" must be based on lack of awareness.

  • I could've sworn I was the only person ever who listened to Zombi.

  • @fathergreen the artist is M. Ward

  • Love the enthusiasm. Definitely checking those out, especially the one by Mono: Explosions In The Sky is one of my favorite bands.

  • sunn O)))? love

  • W00t! Animal Collective is my favorite band! And Sunset Rubdown is definitely in my top 5.

  • No Vecky Timmy? :(

  • whats the name of number 15? emward???

  • Oh yeah. Nouns came out in 2008.

  • Serious question: Do you smoke a lot of pot? Because I could see get blown and listening to most of this stuff, but completely sober a lot of this is boring as hell.

And Invisible Girl should have been #1.

  • What music system do you use? Headphones/speakers?

  • Mastodon - Crack the Skye, Heaven & Hell - The Devil You Know, Megadeth - Endgame, Dream Theater - Black Clouds & Silver Linings

  • any person who puts lightning bolt on their list is awesome

  • Mayer Hawthorne - A Strange Arrangement was a huge 2009 album for me!!!

  • Comment removed

  • You've introduced me to a lot of very good music, thank you! :)

  • this guy reminds me so much of christian bale in american psycho.

  • Nice number 1 choice! I was hoping that would be it!

  • Love your enthusiasm and your taste in tunes is top-notch! But Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest and Dirty Projectors' Bitte Orca didn't make your list at all! They're my one and two respectively.

  • Love the reviiews, your one of the only people I go to. I was a little let down that Merriweather Post wasnt your favorite but you put it in the top 3 so Im happy.

  • really interesting video

  • MPP was a bit overrated for me. FF: tonight was pretty damn good, also Veckatimest and I know I'm a minority but I really enjoyed FS's Entertainment.

  • wheres btbams the great misdirect mastodons crack the skye? wtf animals as leaders?

  • This guy is kind of a wiener.

  • OH NO NO VECKATIMEST! NOOOO

  • You say Explosions and Mono are the best in Post-Rock, but what about F#A#oo by Godspeed You! Black Emperor?

  • @sorrycaps or slow riot for zero kanada!

  • @sorrycaps Nothing can beat F Sharp A Sharp Infinity. That album is so intense. The movements and the buildups are indescribable.

  • @sorrycaps Talk Talk with laughing stock is one of the best. Set Fire To Flames with Sings Reign Rebuilder is also great :)

  • @sorrycaps Missed a key word there that I said "contemporary."

  • @sorrycaps dont forget about lymbyc systym, this will destroy you, or el ten eleven

  • You should check out Triumph by Fire from Exmortus!

  • 5:11 jizzed in your pants XD

  • The Residents - The Ughs!, Omar Souleyman - Dabke 2020, Thee Oh Sees - Help, Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca, Doom - Born Like This, The Bad Plus with Wendy Lewis - For All I Care, Sunn O))) - Monoliths and Dimensions, Aethenor - Faking Gold and Murder (Not In Order, Sure I Forgot A Bunch).

  • 1. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest 2. Antlers - Hospice 3. Wild Beasts - Two Dancers 4. Animal Collective - Merryweather 5. The xx - XX 6. Phoenix - Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix 7. The Horros - Primary Colours 8. Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca 9. Girls - Album 10. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz 11. The Pains of being pure at heart - The pains of being pure at heart 12. Fever Ray - Fever Ray 13. Wilco - Wilco 14. Flaming Lips - Embryonic 15. Sonic Youth - The eternal
  • I checked out some of the stuff you liked, but I thought it was a lot of over produced bullshit & very pretencious. What about Them Crooked Vultures, Cage The Elephant?

  • @gardnerdan17 the only reason you think its over produced and pretentious is because the crap you listen to has no thought put into it at all. And Cage the Elephant? Come on...

  • Just got the Zombi album because 1) Never heard of them 2) Awesome cover art. Really digging this album a lotttttt and this is normally a genre im iffy on.

  • Awesome list. I hadn't heard of some of these artists, so now I have so new music to check out. Thanks alot!

  • I'm sorry, but, EMBRYONIC?!?!?!?!?!

  • Jerkin' off in your ear with solos an' shit. Haha. I like that.

  • How is the band called, which you mention at "12"?

  • I bet you're familiar with pitchfork (music review site), but I was wondering if you're one of their actual reviewers? cause your style of reviewing reminds me of pitchfork :)

  • can't believe THEM CROOKED VULTURES is not on your list

  • My top 3 of 09 are probably:

    1. ISIS- Wavering Radiant

    2.Mastodon- Crack the Skye

  • Ah, c'mon! What about Endgame?

  • sunn fucking o)))

  • My 5 favourite album of 2009:

-Phrazes for the young - Julian Casablancas

-Merriweather Post Pavillon - Animal Collective

    -Junior - Röyksopp

    -Girls - Girls

-A real diamond in the rough - Buckethead

  • I agree with Sunn O)))'s Monoliths & Dimensions being on there. I haven't heard any of the other albums because I'm more into metal than anything else.

  • you have great taste! and these reviews are very entertaining and you are introducing me to a lot of great music.....so......SUBSCRIBED! keep it up!

  • i was surprised that veckatimest didn't make your list. that album is layered as hell in all the right places, and several of the songs are just mindblowing. I'm also befuddled by how little recognition neko case's middle cyclone received on critics' end-of-the-year lists. I thought it was fantastic, though slightly unfocused and overlong

  • o srry that was last year lol

  • Why wasn't Contra on there?!!

  • @EzraK100

    Contra is a 2010 album

  • @TheTanOne19 i kno i mean this vid was last yr not the album
