  • What happens when you have 2 different solutes? To what concentration will the two solutions on either side of the partition (replacing your gummi bear system with the more abstract concept of a partition between two systems) equilibrize?

I used to do those calculations in college, but I forgot.

  • i just learned osmosis in biology and i love gummy bears WIERD

  • so to make these crystals is to add sugar and water and let it sit?

  • ive heard that when you melt pure salt and then add gummy bears it causes a pop/explotion

  • Can I do this at home? I want to grow salt crystals!! how can I make my own salt solution like yours to do this at home?

  • To make the salt solution, you would want to boil water and dissolve as much salt in it as you possibly can. Let it cool and then place your gummi bear in it. It will take several days to several weeks for crystals to form. It is important to leave the solution open to the air. As evaporation occurs, your solution will get even saltier and the crystals will form easily.

  • eres una mujer muy bella....

  • A pretty woman in a lab coat....why couldn't you teach my organic chem class....might have paid more attention xD

Anyways, nice vid keep up the good work. I still remember the "Mad Science" program when I was younger, some of our first experiments were making sugar crystals and cotton candy. Getting an early start on some key science concepts thru things I saw every day really helped spark my interest in bio and chem later on in life.

  • Yay! :) Those crystals are freakin' awesome! Too beautiful! Crystal growth is one of nature's most wonderful things. Very awesome! And poor Gummi Bear!! LOL

  • You could ask us. ;) 0:07 "Trying to find new scientific concepts to present to you"...

I love your channel Joanne. Ask your audience what they would like to know about science. I would love your thoughts on Aubrey de Grey's research!

    Thanks,

  • Thanks so much for the nice comment.

I have tons of ideas but am open to more ideas! It is just trying to get access to certain equipment and getting expertise that is a trick while trying to conduct the rest of life.
