  • wiki says that some vocals are playbacked during the modern live version

  • @turtlliwdnifuoyehthr No, Steve Morse's just backing up the vocals with his guitar. :)

  • @DeepPurpleOL

    not only that

  • @turtlliwdnifuoyehthr Yes, only that :)

  • @4thstepproductions

    nope.

    space truckin too.

they are identical to the studio version.

  • @turtlliwdnifuoyehthr This is not identitcal to the studio version, not vocally or instrumentally. You can find the studio version here: /watch?=tfOny7kvfY0&feature=related. He's being backed up - both on this and spacetrucking - by Steve Morse, because he can't go as high as he could when he was young :)

  • i really think they shouldn't have continued without blackmore

  • the oooooohs are lip synced

  • one original member

  • พวกคุณเป็นที่สุดของที่สุด

  • I didn't like the Steve Morse's solo.

  • The most awesome grandfathers in the world !!

  • Pessoal: apesar da ajudazinha do Morse, ainda é Ian Gilan, e, acima de tudo, ainda é Deep Purple... E viva os maiores de todos os tempos, pois o que há de melhor aos poucos está morrendo...

  • So sorry, but it's a Pale Purple without Blackmore, regardless of what anyone claims of his broody personality.

  • ESTOS NO SON DEEP PURPLE.... Y EL GILAN YA NO PODÍA CANTAR ESTO....

  • lol Im here 4u

  • dobro brate :P

  • cool i am an uk girly

  • lol there's still sound from gillan in the 70's

  • ehm I'm 18 years schoolgirl!very little and playful!Kiss Kiss

  • Is there a live version of Child in Time in which the keyboard and guitar solo isn't ruined? Even Blackmore can't play it properly live :-P That is just my opinion...

  • @Paragonx135 Many versions from 1969-1973 (especially Made In Japan), some versions from 1993 and many versions with Steve Morse... That's my opinion.

  • @Paragonx135

Well the solos in the studio-version is really passionfull. You won't find it in the live-versions. The live-versions are "orgys of improvisation". I love both.

  • Stop this moaning. Mozart is dead should we stop playing his music? Agreed, Lord and Blackmore are awesome but life goes on and to demand that Deep Purple stop playing certain songs because some of the members have left the group is ridicoulus. Nobody is forcing you to listen to them, right? Keep on playing your old albums till they are worn out and let the rest of us enjoy a group that is still alive and kicking.

  • @ovemunk Agree!! Jon Lord is suffering from cancer... This doesnt mean that the band is dead... There may be time that they change personells for the sake of contimuity... Long live DP!!

  • Noooo, why 240 p??? A song like this need a full hd quality.

  • we should finally stop, Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord mourn. Sure, both Steve Morse and Don Airey a very headstrong and independent style of play and just as surely, comparisons prohibit Blackmore and Lord of himself, as these two from the start Deep Purple left its imprint, but in Morse and Airey have been well into the band integrated, are accepted by the fans and adjust the sound for the band. This version of "Child in time" proves this once more. Purple greetings from Germany.

  • ehm I'm a crazy American girl

  • Agree that Lord best on keyboard and prefer Blackmore here. Best version of the song live in 1970 in UK studio. Even recorded versions have never sounded that good to me. They should quit playing this song though Gillan's voice not too bad - can still reach some of those high notes Maybe after his tonsillectomy? Still trying to find out when he had it. Before that his voice sounded pretty bad. Sound couldn't get out around swollen, infected tonsils and nodules. Thanks to the German doctor!

  • Wow. Gillan could still belt this out at @ 58 years of age. I may appreciate Morse's technique here, but I miss the emotional beauty of Blackmore's version.

  • The best thing Steve did on this song is play his style and not try to copy Blackmore. We have enough versions of Ritchie's solos. I was interested in Steve's version of the solo and it was amazing!

  • Find me a finger-onthe-right-string-all-the-time guitarist like Steve Morse, and he would be INTO DEEP PURPLE.

Trust people who have the experiency know. Not the bla-bla-monkeys.

  • Wtf? No Blackmore? That's not right....

  • I must say there are quite a few amazing rock singers but only two move me to the core, IAN GILLAN and PAUL ROGER!S

  • Mr. Gillan, you are my hero :)

  • Amazing vocals

  • im not child in time. i was born in wrong decade :-(

  • This is the only time I've seen Ron Airey play this and he is quite good. Steve Morse is not brilliant on this, however.

  • One of the last times Deep Purple performed this.

  • I am in that time with that child, while listening this..:|

  • Still hitting the the high notes? No Gillan actiually stops at the second of three levels and let the guitar du the rest. BUT!!! this is brilliant and exactly what he and RB should have done already 25 years ago imho. It´s so good to hear him sing this masterpiece again. It´s music' not a circus act

    !

  • man, gillan, glover and paice still rocks!

  • thumbs up if steve is better then blackmore

  • @jblk212 It's falsetto. But still amazing for someone who's 57.

  • Blackmore is a gr8 guitar player but lets face it, Morse is on another level.

  • Ian Gillan is one of my biggest inspirations for my high screams \m/ At HIS age, doing this song is PHENOMENAL :O Plz watch my video response of some of my high screams, let me know who I sound like? :)

  • One of the greatest singers ever if not the best singer ever... This was 2002 and he still reached the first screams (e - d - c). Since the 80s he didn't reach the highest notes (a - g - e) but I don't know a 57 years old singer who can scream a high e.

I also think Deep Purple isn't Blackmore and Lord. Blackmore is the greatest guitarist for me and Lord is one of the best musicans ever but both (especially Blackmore's behaviour and ego) didn't make Deep Purple.

  • @lw48wp4 Rob Halford is 60 years old and I believe he can reach the high E.

  • @Rodrigojohann2 Maybe. Halford is great.

    ...

But I still prefer Gillan :)

  • @Rodrigojohann2 yup, but rob halford is god.... ;-)

  • shame gillans voice has lost him now....he is 66 but to me he's the greatest singer ever.

  • deep purple isnt same without Ritchie and Lord...

  • @Tranilio Agreed, but I, like the way Steve Morse helps to Gillan vocals here with his guitar, Blackmore to me is the best guitarist ever lived on the earth, but he never helps Gillan with his amazing guitar... And It's a shame to him to be such an asshole, and in same time the greatest guitarist ever... After all, Gillan's voice is a voice, not a guitar, and it's pretty normal not to be the same voice as in the 70's... But he still got it some how... the voice of Gillan is not only high screams

  • @Fireinthebasement

Exactly. I was always wondering how they did these vocal-guitar dialogs on "Made in Japan" with all that antipathy...

  • In 2003 I saw them in Rome, but they didn't play child in time, maybe because Gillan couldn't reach those notes... too bad they didn't come 1 year before...

Anyway that was a great concert and they played along with Lynyrd Skynyrd

  • I'm crazy about it! Adoration is from Russia.

  • I'm crazy about it!

  • Just awesome!

  • watching this brings back great memories when i saw them live (in the early 70's)and wasa totally mesmerised by Ian Gillan's brilliant vocals (especially hitting those high notes, Its great that (now in his 60's) can still sing it with such impact. One thing I find puzzling - is what is the song supposed to be about.?

  • 99 people weren't children in time

  • @uDavide thats gotta be one of the worst comments i have ever seen

  • Classico supremo.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This isn't fucking Deep Purple.. these are impostors

  • This isn't fucking Deep Purple.. these are imposters

  • @beautifulalways4 I can't understand why people think so.

  • @beautifulalways4 Ian Gillan, Ian Paice and Roger Glover aren't Deep Purple?? What are u smoking?

  • @bruffie LOOOOOOOOOOL

  • @aassyr1111 Cannot find my comment so I'll take ur word for it :)

  • glaube nicht das er diese höhen noch erreicht, die technik macht es ,aber trotz alle dem eine hammer band

  • I think this was the last time this amazing song was played, isn't it?

  • Ian Gillan is a Master of the Srceam!!! :)

  • Ian Gillan is my favorite screamer!!

  • Ian is GOD!!

  • Who plays keys here??

  • @maryo94 is Don Airey. One of the best kyebordist of all time.

  • @lesterskelter What happened to Jon Lord?

  • @maryo94 He retired in 2003 for work in his own works.

  • @lesterskelter But it says this video is from 2002 :P

  • @maryo94 Well, maybe the video date is wrong.

  • @lesterskelter Don came to Purple’s rescue mid 2001 to help out for an injured Jon Lord. Airey joined the band as a full time keyboardist in March 2002.

  • Being out of synch is an easy fix (the error should always be one fixed time amount through out the recording, unless data was spliced from different recording machines), and it has a simple cause (different playback equipment versus what recorded it). Sometimes you just let things be, sometimes you fix things.

  • @jblk212 it's falsetto!! Not full voice. Last tiem he did those notes with full voice was about in 95-96. After that period no more!!

  • @jblk212 Ibeg your Pardon , i make a mistake . My vote is +

  • it's weird because at a gig in 1993 he wasn't able to sing like that at all

  • @jblk212 Jesus :)

  • Oh my god!!!!

  • На мой взгляд группа потихоньку деградирует. Надо уметь вовремя уходить со сцены что бы не превратиться в пародию на самого себя.

  • Ritchie Blackmore along with rod evans, nick simper and david coverdale created 98 youtube accounts :P

  • No Ritchie Blackmore.. no Watchy!.. there I got it right now

  • @kamacazi8 shut the fuck up, son of a bitch!

  • Comment removed

  • @kamacazi8 It's Ritchie Blackmore, U blur fail! lol !

  • @jblk212 Ah, sorry. I do not dispute that Gillan is a very gifted, amazing singer - one of my top favorite vocalists, (not like it matters). The loss of his upper register is very sad, though. He can still kind of hit stuff in the higher range, it's just so much weaker now.

  • @jblk212 Um... he wasn't singing THOSE notes. His scream now is nothing to what it was.

  • he was in tbilisi once... crucified here : ))) ian is really wonderful ... deep purple forever

  • the legend sing forewer.......

  • It is amazing they have Steve Morse playing with them. They added my favorite guitarist to my favorite band. Heaven!!!

  • I went to see Deep Purple live a couple months ago and this was the only song I wanted them to play that they didn't! THEY. WERE. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jblk212 that is not the talent.THERE ARE ONLY BALLS AND HEART! :D

  • This is Deep Purple's SONG! As big a Purple fan as I am, Blackmore couldn't carry Morses' Guitar case!!!!! And unless you've seen them...... don't comment! I've seen both line-ups and this is better than MARKII. Blackmore( As good as he is) tried to destroy this band!!!They came out better than ever!

  • Really amazing bad solo OMG

  • no blackmore, no lord= no deep purple :@

  • the fuc**r didn't sing this 2000 in Athens concert. only this song left for a perfect concert

  • @tolsam he doesn't sing it anymore cuz his voice cant take it anymore

  • This song is Blackmore and Lord

Nothing against Steve and Don,but this song is made for Lord and Blackmore

    Deep Purple Forever from Greece

  • @77elvistheking Greece Loves Deep Purple!

  • @77elvistheking

yea, but they're not in the band, what DP is suposed to do? to retire because blackmore is an asshole?

  • @guitartur

it's okay if they're without blackmore.but not okay if without lord.

only one original member and he is a drummer!

    that's bullshit

  • @77elvistheking

blackmore is too busy talking with the fairies, he can't play guitar like he used anymore...

  • Deep Purple my arse....if RB aint there then it aint DP. This is awful.

  • Unbelievable at his age! Love the 1970 UK studio version, but this is outstanding at his age. Go, Gillan!!

So glad Gillan, Glover, and Paice "got back together."

Those final screams - unbelievable after all those years! Love you!

  • SOM MUITO LOKO... CANTA MUITO MUITO MESMO....PARABENS!!

  • SOM MUITO LOKO... CANTA MUITO MUITO MESMO....PARABENS!!

  • @theawakener7 Nice reply :) I don't necessarily agree with you about Blackmore, but you're SO right about Morse!

  • ¡¡What the hell happen with those 92!!

  • STEVE MORSE IS A FUCKING TOOL!

Sorry, I don't mean to troll, but FUCK him. Thinking he can come in and replace Ritchie...

  • Ho it's morse, the monjey guitarist, purple it's just a fail since the reunion of the Mk III

  • Does anyone else find that Gillan looks like Bill Murray in this video?

  • @Ammerstol haha thats exacly what i was thinking

  • Its out of sync, sound and picture, but Ian isn't singing the highest tones, Steve does them on his guitar. Who can blame Ian for not doing the high ones, most guys in their prime would never manage to get up there, never :)

  • wow i thought they dont play this song since many years now..impresive perfomance!

  • It's not like 69-73, but still a great song.

  • weird.. saw a interview with Ian Gillan, where he said that they don't do Child In Time anymore, and last time he sang it was 20 years ago...i can see that xD

  • @servantofjack This song is my favorite from Deep Purple, but is very difficult, and this is for younger singers.

  • Very enjoyable.

  • Deep Purple is the best! Russia sucks!

  • bike lanes are very common in vancouver.

i ride home from school everyday down a steep bike lane beside speeding traffic listening to this full volume.

i feel like a child in time haha

  • GOD DAMN HE STILL HITS THE HIGH NOTES!!!

  • The keyborder is not in the groove.. Sorry.. I saw one concert.. Then i stopped with DP.

  • Great Ian Gillan....but ...are they whistling to the keyboard player because he's not Lord??? If it is so...that would be so horrible....(but maybe it has nothing to do..)

    ANYWAY WE LOVE THE PURPLES...

  • THE BEST SONG:::::::::::::::::::::::::::

  • Ian is very old

    But he still have power

But performance in Bangkok This year is very impress

    DP is DP

  • @BuzzZzzoO greatings from germany.

    yes, exactly.!!!!!!

  • hey he still hits the high notes!!!

  • hahaha 1:45 :D they started screaming.failed xDDD

  • hi bangkok watch this ww.deeppurple.ch

  • we love Deep Purple From Bangkok

  • He still can scream on key.

  • This is who all rock bands want to be when they grow up.

  • yep he still got it

  • Yeah just up and listen to the music.

  • Not even close to the magic or sound of the great deep purple!

  • gillan was my hero when i was young...........

  • I've the impression that thedifficult part is in playback. Listen to the 2nd uuu- uuu- uh: voice starts when he's far from microphone and smiling:mouth apperently doesn't give any voice emission

  • @snowguyit

It's because the audio and the video is not syncronised. The two layers are way off. Check out Ian Paice's drumming, looks like he's hitting the drums off beat. Which would be funny in his case:)

DP never used playback at a live concert. Probably in TV studios but not in arenas.

  • steven morse te keo grande la kamiseta de ritchie blackmore

  • I've got a shiver whan Morse starts playing;)

  • @MrKultysheff totally agree ! love Deep purple!

  • sry people but he's not singing the very high notes, and i think that's not that amazing, watch glenn hughes he still hits the notes he did in the 70s.

  • @sacknard Glen is just a screamer and cant sing at all!!!!

  • @Tunturi24 so you must be a very hard ian gillian fan, are you? glenn is one of the best rock singers, he is not just screaming. search for mistreated at cali jam 74. or look for a whiter shade of pale glenn hughes. i didnt say that ian cant sing i just said that he's not singing the high notes anymore.

  • @sacknard

Glenn Hughes was keeping his voice, Ian was singing and singing all of his life... he had many live concerts and that harmed his vocal abilities...
