Degree is hell's fire? It's not only used in temperature scales, it's also used in geometry as a unit for plane angle. With that in mind, can the association still be made? The etymology of student and class was quite interesting though. The American educational system is a battlefield where many Black males suffer thru and too few survive. It's really not salvageable and needs to be completely overhauled, but knowledge must be pursued and attained by any means if we are to advance as a people.

Most etymology dictionaries only go as far back as old english, late latin and Greek. Serious etymological dictionaries take you back into the so called semitic languages. School does come from the Greek words skhole, shoal, sheole which alludes to hell in a connotative sense then on into the hebrew.
