its best to use the reciever because thats one of the points of having the reciever. one reason is quality what wire are the audio out on the tv rcas? hdmi are best run all your components to the reciever also for less chance of distortion. 2 if your wall mounting you tv you have 2 wires vrs. all the component wires. there are many reasons why
thx man, why do poeple use an external amplifier? Because the receiver not always have an amp build in? Or just because they want more speakers or more powerfull speakers?
You don't need to listen to the audio from all your devices connected to your T.V through the speakers in the T.V... most T.Vs have AMP out or PROG out that you can connect your receiver to...
interesting video, thanks, getting started making money is hard - u should try Heavy Dollars (google), they are ideal for a newcomer, they got me started - the free kit gave me everything i needed to start making some nice money
I don't have an AV receiver, but I do have a DVD stereo system. I have connected my Nintendo 64 to the TV via the standard AV cables, I then have a line lead going from the AV outputs on the back of the TV, to the AUX input on the back of the stereo system, that's one way to get around using an AV receiver if you don't want one. It also means I can play games with headphones if I want to, as my TV set doesn't have a headphone output.
What do you think about Onkyo HT-S5100 I bought this last night in hopes my husband will aprove of his Christmas present and of my choice. Is that a good model?
yeah right! that is if you just want standard sound. what if your tv can't decode dts or dolby, you are then wasting your time and you have to turn on the tv all the time just to listen to mp3, compact discs, or dvd music discs or mtvs. you really need a/v receiver to appreciate the coded sound of your source.
No help at all

there are audio out ports on TV's so you can plug them all in to your TV and not use the TV speakers audio out to the receiver
