thats not a V8. The engine of a VW is in the rear and the trans sits in front of it, the engine sits behind the back tires. In order to put a V8 engine they typically have to place the engine in the cab with the driver to keep it a rear weel drive, theres just no point. Bugs are of a different design alltogeather and there engines are more than powerful enough to do a burn out when tuned correctly. You need to look it up to understand it, but I assure you its not a V8.

a v8 in a vw is blasphomey, i agree. what is in the vid in now way shape or form sounds like a vw engine. i have never seen a smoke show on that level where you couldn't hear the IDA screaming. If that was a flat four: 1, its going to last 10k mi tops, 2, there must be a a way to make them 4+ liters 3, you are never going to get that amount of hp out of a aircooled veewee engine, 4, all that smoke and the motor loafing, low rpm = huge engine
I didnt listen to the sound that carefully, but now that you mention all these things i put my headphones on and payed attention and ya it sounds like a v8. I was noticing under the running boards by the floor pan, is that an exhaust pipe running underneath it? looks like it at the end of the vid but not sure.
that video is in fact a v8 bug.. just listen to it... there has never been a vw motor that sounds like that. and i've seen multiple bugs with small block chevy's in them both in the front and mounted behind the driver and passenger seats... just because you think you know something about a bug doesnt mean you do. how about you do a little research on converting a bug from an air cooled vw motor to a small block

I saw a bug like this at a bug show once, (i go to several) he had the blower sticking outta the front decklid and the tranny sitting right next to him by where the parking break normally is and the driveshaft going back to the rear diff. The bug was completly chopted, at this point its no longer a bug, its what harrychronikjr said, a redneck pile of crap. Just cause the shell is a bug dosent make it one.
Shawn Geers bug ran a 9.41 with out any kind of power adder, Eric Calabrese bug runs mid 8s with a turbo, VW paradise has street cars running low 9s and a dragster running 6.50s. A lot of VW flat 4s run 9s and quicker, some are street cars.
I think the fastest 1/4 mile done out here on the west coast by a street legal car was by a vw bug, can't remember who runs it but its orange and he came out on Hot VW magazine on the cover. sweet looking ride too, he drove the bug there, ran it on the strip and drove it home. I think he did high 8s. was a while back.
uhm, dude i've scene vw flaters run 8's up here on bandamere, keeping in mind the climet reduces hp dramaticly...there called BIGGER vw flat 4's with turbos....a stock flat 4 in a vw is as tuned down a mechanicly posible, and vw's don't way much
I believe thats the only way you can do a V8 in a bug is by doing it front mounted, by doing this you gotta cut out ur firewall and parts of your rear floor pan to make the tranny (usually outta a jeep) and engine fit. It sits just behind ur right sholder if your in the drivers seat. I've seen them done a couple times now, every time I go to a bug show theres always 1 or 2 chopted up somewhere. I own a 69 bug w/ a 1776cc in it, a baja 72 w/ a 1914cc and a 67 im workin on for a daily driver.
Come on 900 HP?The highest HP I've seen in a NHRA drag bug was about 400 on a 2400 CC motor.

Just a few VW body parts on a tube frame. V8 Auto definately not a volkswagen. Pretty competitive car in the West Coast Door Slammers Assoc.

Sure sounds like a V8 to me. And Do some research man there are several bugs out there with custom done front mounted V8's.
