@77retro1 Cheers mate, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I can't recommend it enough, I'd say it's my favourite PS2 shooter and it's a game I'll always return to. It has that Treasure mark of quality.
One of the best shooters of all time. The big spider looking boss always gets me on level 3. You do need them missiles that fire out of the back on the second level. Neat vid, hope you feeling better mate.
@ash81b4u Yeah, cheers mate, I'm feeling miles better now. Thanks for asking.
Yep, I have to agree with you there, I wouldn't expect anything else from a Treasure shooter. I still haven't settled on which weapon set up I prefer, the adjustable option fire comes in handy but it's awkward to use when you're in the thick of it. I'm fully expecting to get my arse handed to me by this 3rd level Spider boss now.
Nice video dude. The start of the video reminded me of a quote from Micky Flanagan - "I sat on the toilet and with the gentlest of pushes, the world fell out of my arse"
@SonyPSgamer Cheers mate, I'm glad you liked it. Micky Flanagan's a legend, and I think he's got it just about spot on there. I've always liked his 'peeper and peepee' joke, with the third risky option to 'maintain the peep'!
Sorry to hear you've had problems :( I had the same a couple of weeks ago, second worst bout ever for me, you run up to the toilet & are not sure either to sit down or lean over to be sick lol hope your over the worst :)
I'm pretty impressed actually by your shooting skills, top job :) I've not played for a long time but that 1st boss has a weak spot iirc, if you have loads of options cant you lock them in front of you and ram them straight into the core?It dies before it gets a chance to spin
@craigsheree Yep, I'm a lot better now Craig, thanks for asking, just in time for crimbo as well. I hope you are too? Nasty business, it didn't help that I had to keep heading off to the Post Office to post some ebay sales either, not a good time to be standing in a massive queue.
Thanks for the tip mate, that sounds about right. I figured there must've been a better way than just dodging all the bullets and then following it around as it rotated.
Haha, hope you're not too tired from nipping all that time lol!!! I've been looking out for this for years mate, gonna have to bite the bullet and buy it now looks awesome! Only way I've found to reduce flicker slightly is to try and match the TV and the camera, CRT's flicker less on 60hz as most cams are set to 60hz as standard, LCD will look a shitload better - but It looks fine as is to me mate :). Cool Gameplay!
@ninjabearhug I can't lie, there were a few times when I was struggling to hold it together but I'm through the worst now..... ha ha
You can't go wrong with Gradius V, it's got the Treasure quality about it so even if you're a bit shit like me you'll always be getting your moneys worth.
Cheers mate, I've given it a few tweaks and the pictures better, it's always been better with PS1 games. I'll use the LCD for PS2 gameplay from now on, I need a decent RGB scart cable for it anyway.
*continued*.......i'll have to check this bad boy out although my eagle eyes have also spotted that there is a Darius game out for the Saturn.
I'm half tempted to get back into the swing of things with the PS2 at some stage but if i'm being totally honest it's way down the list of priorities (expect it on a pickup video relatively shortly, then).
@bluetonic78 Yep, in my non-respected opinion you can't go wrong with Gradius V, combine the series name with the Treasure seal of quality and it's a match made in shooter heaven. Yes it's a tough one but I know it's never unfair so I'll always go back to it, and the piss taking voice is just extra motivation.
Yeah, there's a lot of money that could be spent on PS2 games, and they're readily available so there's a lot of scope to make impulse buys. Worth looking at one day though.
You sound just like Michael Moon......only joking. Well, maybe you do but i've never heard of him *cue bringing up google*.
Ah, a character from Eastenders but one that has only surfaced since i've been over here. I was thinking about that the other day and of all the TV ads/new programmes and presenters that will mean nothing to me if and when we ever move back to the UK.......
Anyway, I totally digress. Gradius V looks shweeeet and as a recent re-subscriber to the retro side of things.....
@bluetonic78 I gave up on Eastenders a long time ago, about the time one of the Mitchells busted out of chokey by 'leaning on a screw'! So Michael Moon is new to me as well. It looks like the bloke who used to be in This Life all those years ago.
Don't worry about missing out on tv references and stuff, if you've not heard of it over there it's probably not worth knowing about! Things like TOWIE might be a shock to the system on your return though.
First and foremost, hope your feeling a little better dude, im sure you already know, but get a shit ton of water down ya. Not the old Lucozade like my mom and dad used to give me when I had the shits, Lol!
Never been much of a shmup player but this looks like pandemonium, in a good way, it looks really nice too! The PS2s power really does the game justice. Good choice for a gameplay man, thanks for sharing :)
@SeanSidious Yep, I'm feeling fine now mate, cheers for asking. I reckon I just had a bog standard case of gut rot, and I got to stay in bed so it wasn't all bad. I used to have Lucozade as well, nasty stuff, and they tried to make out like it was Tizer!
It's always worth a punt mate, if you ever feel like taking up playing shmups this is a great place to start. Yep, it's hectic but it's never unfair, and there's no slow down which is a great achievement. Glad you liked it mate.
@izaurralde Cheers dude.Yeah, I have to agree, it's pure gameplay, shmups have barely changed since the beginning because they're timeless. And they're intuitive as well, and you'll always reap the rewards of your game time.
I have played Axelay but a long time ago, it's high up my list for when I lay my hands on SNES tho. I think when you encounter the other Vic Viper in Gradius V you're seeing the last boss of the game, although I'm probably wrong because I'm way off getting there.
@footloose20005 You're the third person to say that so I'm going to have to start taking this seriously! I've had a look at a few YT vids and I have to say that I'm not hearing it, but who am I to judge?! ha ha
Everybody sucks at shmups until you play them, and then play them a bit more. Anybody who says they can beat a good shooter the first time is a liar. I'm glad you enjoyed the vid dude, cheers!
lol great GP Owen :) Dunno how you play these shooters dude, I find them so bloody difficult, too much going on and my reflexs are shit lol. I'm better at traditional shooters like r-type,salamander and parodius :) Merry Christmas dude :)
@Snestastic Cheers Pete. I finds shooters relaxing because of their good, honest gameplay, they're always tough though. I've got hooked on Gradius V and I'm only getting further into the game because I'm getting used to how it works the more I play. Is still can't get passed the second level though, but it doesn't feel impossible which keeps me plugging away. I've played a few R-Type titles and they're always challenging.
I have had food poisoning twice this year mate but apparently the second time was just the first time revisiting lol
I would really like this game but i refuse to pay the money that it demands on ebay etc.
Does your camera have controls for exposure and gain? They can help with the lines sometimes although it greatly depends on the game your playing.Using a small LCD is a good solution but i just can't bear to play older consoles on them.Great gameplay and commentry anyways mate :)
@darrenwalshsock That sounds like a bargain to me, and you don't have to step foot out of your door. I did see a copy knocking around on the Cash Gen. website recently for £10 but I don't think it had a manual, and the condition didn't look too hot either.
@darrenwalshsock It was like an aftershock? That's a bit of a kick in the pants! It's not a barrel of laughs is it.
Go on, take the punt! You'll always get your moneys worth, although don't take this video as an indication of how tough it is. It's got great replayability and you can't have too many Treasure games in your set up, I see CEX do it for £12.
I've recorded some more footage using PS1 games and the flicker is a lot better, I'll use my LCD for PS2 games from now on.
Haha that comment was funny, about you sounding like Michael from eastenders, you actually do. Food poisoning is no joke, blooming horrible. Hope you feel better. Its nice to see you doing a gameplay. Its looks awesome but very hard as most of these type of shooters are. All the best :-)
@kazxena Cheers, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've had to google Michael from Eastenders and if I'm honest I can't see it! ha ha I used get people saying I sounded like Alan Partridge, I couldn't see that either so what do I know!
Yep, I'm feeling a lot better now, thanks for asking. It felt like food poisoning but it could well have been bog standard flu, my judgements not the best, and I could easily have contracted something loitering in a Post Office queue breeding ground....
maybe could of picked a more restful game to play considering your recent health issues mate;) credit given for keeping your mind on the game and on focusing to stay 'clenched' !! ha great game though, really need to pick this up for my ps2
@minks36 Yeah, I think you're right, but I was thinking more along the lines of something that didn't require too much of my time, just in case I was 'called away'. It was definitely an added factor for the video though, and I've never been too much of a multi-tasker.
I can't recommend the game enough, and you can never have too many Treasure titles in your collection. CEX do it for a decent price if you ever see it locally.
@dingwei7 I highly recommend it, it's made by Treasure and has that quality feel about it, it's hard as nails as well so you'll always be getting your moneys worth.
Now I'm going to have to go and Google Michael from Eastenders to see what the fuss is about. ha ha
