The GOP's Rezko counter to this McCain gaffe is pathetic and is getting NO traction out there. At the end of the day, Obama paid full value for his home and gained no ownership rights in the lot Rezko's wife bought. So Obama got no direct benefit and Rezko got no favors-its a nonstory. For a long time he said a tax break for the rich that drove the country into debt was "immoral". But he now wants to be Presidnet so bad..he flipped on what had been one of his "maverick" principles.
Actually, what McCain said was that he didn't approve of tax cuts without spending cuts. Since he is going to be president, and he has threatened to veto any pork, he knows that he can cut spending and taxes at the same time.
That is what Sean Hannity said 5 years after the fact. What McCant really said was: "I cannot in good conscience support a tax cut in which so many of the benefits go to the most fortunate among us at the expense of middle-class Americans who need tax relief."--John McCain, May 2001

The point is that McCain is not living in the same world as the rest of us. He thinks that "rich" starts at 5 mil ... he has so many houses that he lost count.
I would rather have a president who forgets how many houses he owns (because he's busy doing his job) rather than a president who forgets how many states we have because he is too inexperienced to do the job.
If you were honest with yourself you would watch the entire McCain clip and see he was speaking sarcastically about the 5 million. Shortly thereafter he defined rich as having a healthy and happy family.
Did Obama answer the questions surrounding the $300,000 discount he got on his 1.6 million dollar home? Did he explain how Rezko's wife miraculously had the owner split the original land into two lots, and bought the adjacent land to his lot on the same day?
The original land was one large lot. Either as a result of Rezko or the owner's wishes the lot was split into two plot provided both lots closed on the same day. Obama could not afford to buy both of the lots, so Rezko's wife bought one lot and sold him a section of the land a few moths later. He bought this land knowing that Rezko was under federal investigation for corruption.
Please add to your time line..that the other part of the lot is a very desirable corner lot...that lot was sold at a profit. And that the stories that the remaining lot was not buildable have been debunked. Also please add that even the Chicago papers that are rough on Obama will admit that he has never done any favors for Rezco.
I personally love it that this stuff is the best you can dig up. It makes me think Obama may be a little less corrupt than most politicians.
