  • That's funky... Don't remember this song so much though.

  • I been looking for this jam forever! I was just 11 years old when this came out and never knew who made it until now! Thanks for posting this!

  • I agree with you on that PeekaPeep. It was a shame that record labels didnt do right by these talented brothers. These brothers need to come on back again and show the world again that the Reddings are a force to be reconized. And stay forever.

  • I am not dissing because this a decent song but that album cover is the gayest shit I have ever seen. More power to em.

  • @berylman i was thinkin the same thang...lol

  • they had talent just like their dad otis

  • thumps up for purple, red and yellow jumpsuits

  • I don't see why the Barkays would not have promoted them . I toolove the bass on this between this and Silver Platinum they made me want to play the bass. I have a Peavy T-40 that I use to try and learn these lines.

  • Loved this song.....badass bass.....never understood why they were "one hit wonders", thought they would do more. Don't understand the comparison to Cameo....these guys were the real deal.

  • Been looking for this song FOREVER!!! Thanks! Ol' school funk!

  • Man I have looked for this song myself for years and they are kin to me but don't know it. Otis Redding is a relative, my middle name Redding. This was the bomb!!!

  • Check out "pleasure" song called glide if u like bass slappin'....

  • Check out dexter slapping the s--t out of that bass.To this day i'ts hard to find a funky bass like that.

  • class !

  • THE BASS HAD ME, TOO BAD THEY COULDN'T KEEP THIS FORMULA FOR TIGHT JAMS, OTIS IS PRODE FELLOWS

  • Nice jam - but probably didn't get heavy radio exposure bcuz the obvious Cameo sound. R&B radio programmers have to have some sense of music responsiblility sometimes. Larry Blackmon woul'dve been infuriated by hearing this 2'nd hand imitation of his funk. The bassline on this cut is furious though.

  • This is the song, I have been searching for this song for over 4yrs and could not find it in any of the biggest record stores and Dj's that I knew had the song could not find the song and it took youtube to make my day...

  • tune

  • It's like so much talent just exploded between 1981-1983. Snoop Dog also says that about the early 80s in one of the Zapp documentaries. What the heck happened? It's hard to resist the temptations that the music corporation throws out, and that's mostly what happened. People also seemed to get dumbed down in terms of their musical tastes. After 1983, it went downhill but a few artists still produced good music afterwards. Just a handful though.

  • Brings back memories. This song is a classic. Great!!

  • THE jam WVKO DID NOT PLAY BACK IN1982!!!!

  • omg this is the jam... i will do this song over! house mix

  • Also on this LP is a remake of the classic (Sitting On) The Dock Of The Bay. Please, please please upload that song......they did such an awesome job.

  • Whenever I hear the name Stingray bass,

this is the song that symbolizes that

    magnificent instrument.

  • One of the baddest bass lines of all time! Shame this hasn't been re-released. Required listening for any bass player or funkateer! Otis would have been proud!

  • This use to be my SHYYYYYYYYT!!!!! LOL oH MY GOD I SOOOO REMEMBER JAMIN TO THIS SONG. I remember playin this song on the juke box at my granfather's bowling alley!!! my part is ....don't matta, don't matta don't matta don't matta don't matta bout nothin no mo' ............CLASSIC JAM!!!!!

  • thanks for psting this..that bass is still funky as hell.......HOLLA TO THE DETROIT SCENE!!!

  • @claybarker

We had it good !! I feel sorry for the youngsters of today lol !

  • @313PATRIOT ....agreed...."imported from detroit'...313 in the house!!!

  • These guys should've caught on as an in-demand session group during that time (like what the Neptunes had done in recent years). Just goes to show the apples didn't fall too far from the family tree in terms of raw talent. They had it in spades (especially Dexter, who I feel is somewhat of an unsung bass-playing prodigy who really drove that group). Too bad they wound up being victims of shady corporate politics in the music industry along with other talented artists and groups of that era.

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU for posting this one. I've looked for this to download with no luck, I need it in the RIDE!!!

  • As a bass player for most of my life, it's sad htat the bussiness thinks so little of

the musicians who helped make this music great. This song is off the chain!

I hope we all play a part in bringin' it back!!!

  • I agree with you TOTALLY, another classic bass pattern is Square Biz by Teena Marie (revisit that one when you get a chance)

  • I was wondering if and when somebody would post this great song from the Reddings. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Music is just not what it used to be. Thanks for posting.

  • This song has one of the cooles bass patterns ive heard.

  • Baby...Baby...Baby... Cass Tech and then WSU in 1982. This song was HOT!!!!! Senior year.. Excellent song. Thanks for the memories.

  • i believe they are related to the late otis redding?

  • they are his sons

  • simplemente geniales.

  • If you're looking for some other missing funk classics from this era look up 'Do It To Me' by Vernon Burch.

  • Re geator's comment, I would definitely say that about most of today's music. At least this song employed original instruments and it had a definite beginning and ending. Can't say that about most popular black music these. These and other funk artists disappeared because creativity started to slowly give rise to music made for the masses. Most early 80s funk, if not all, was underground and only black radio stations played it. Artists really had talent back then.

  • Brings back memories of listening to this being played on "The Scene" in Detroit, back in '82. Thats where I 1st heard it...the JAM!

  • Yeah thats right hahahah!!!!!!!

  • Thank u ArchieGe 4 the Reddings!

  • Question, how can you compare the two? Otis was the sixties, but this was the 80's when techno and drum beats were huge. It's unfair to judge them based on their father's work. This song was huge for them but it's probably true that they didn't stay in the business long when people continue to compare them to their father. People have to let the children of entertainers do their OWN things-NEW FLAVA because anything less is repeating! However, you are entitled to your opinion!!!!

  • The Reddings were slept on and they sure as heck sound better than the artists today with all that crap they play on the radio. I prefer this music over the music today. Come on now, who is one of the best bass players today? Can you actually name a soul or r and b artist today who is a great bass player?? None I can actually think of. They will always be number one in my book. That's why I'm holding tight to those albums.

  • lol...there is only one to choose from...

Mint Condition's Ricky Kinchen. They are the only r&b band with a contract today.

When this was released in 1982. off the top of my head...

Terry Lewis(The Time), Andre Cymone, Brown Mark(Prince), Tyrone Brunson, Cedric Martin(Con funk Shun), Mark Adams(Slave), Steve Washington(Slave, Aurra)

  • Why yes of course they were off the hook also!! Can't forget about them. Andre' Cymone another one that was slept on..Gosh MISS Him!

  • Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I've been looking for this for over 20 years! This was the ULTIMATE JAM in the summer of '82! The last time I heard it was on the Boblo Boat! :-)

  • This was (is) the jam! This was the song that made me start to think I was good on the bass guitar, 1981 Mumford High School Detroit, MI. Been looking for it everywhere, thanks for posting it!

  • Cameo style.

  • I remember a track from the same year. The track was their rendition of "Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay". If it can be posted, that would be great.

  • OOOH Thanks for posting this! We had a ball at the skating rinc in '82 jammin' to this song. I still got this album.

  • Don't sell that album! Ever!!! :)

  • I'm never ever selling it!! I don't care who offer me what! I love The Reddings and I felt like they were slept on big time. I hate they don't make music anymore. I hope someone posts "You Can Be A Star" I love that song!

  • I had this album...I remember this...man I miss them...they got overlooked so bad by the big corporations..they had talent...Hand dance, remote control! Loved thsoe songs. I still jam them on my mp3s! Thanks for posting this!

  • sabri35: I used to skate to this jam at Skate Depot.

  • Man I LOVE you for this. Being that I grew up about an hour north of Macon - the hometown of these guys - you just don't know how many memories of Summer 1982 you bring back. Freshman year high school, Curtis Mathes stereo system, Jordache jeans, Sebagos. Wow!

  • I graduated from Northeast High in Macon I feel ya!!! "85"

  • These guys attended high school with my older sister.

  • We did you to play/get our @sses kicked by the Mary Persons High b-ball team in Forsyth. Those boys could "get up"!

  • It's all the way live...class of '85.. :) Balboa High-San Francisco CA. I loved this song when it came out. I like it because it was nothing like their father which means they were able to step out of the box and do their own THANG!!!
