How much is China making paying Olympic committee to use TKD as sparring standard. Sparring standard is whatever u can kick and earn per day. Not Hap Ki Do.
Funny how people think they're gonna take tae kwon do or muy thai and learn to fight 50 people - or their gonna learn bjj or wrestling and become the biggest bad ass on the planet - this is idiotic. You don't do martial arts to become the world's toughest man or woman, you do it because you either want to compete or you want to learn something new and possibly learn to defend yourself. It's not the martial art that defines the man - it's the man that defines his mastery of any art he studies.
i love tkd and all these fancy spinning and kicks are cool.. but a clean muay thai round house kick beats it all technique wise.. but hey it still depends on how the person performs it..
Some folks take it as a sport, others take it as a way of life, I prefer the spiritual enlightenment that comes with martial arts and also follow it as a teaching for life and many ways to live it. It helps expand the mind and helps those understand their body, this in turn makes us one with ourselves and others who believe similar. I personally believe even with the hate, martial arts above all else can help unite our people globally whether it's sport or much more than that.
This is not Taekwon-Do like founder General Choi Hong Hi would have intended it to be promoted as. General Choi Hong Hi refers to the WTF as the Japanese form of Karate, meaning there is not essence from the Taekwon-Do like breath control, sign wave, sharpness.
@evanswebdesignnz actually there is breath control in it.. but in another way i think. I'm training TTU Taekwondo (Traditional Taekwondo Union) it's under WTF.. Idk how other wtf is though.. maybe it's TTU exclusive but i think they got some ?..
"...Tae Kwon Do has reached a spiritual level that touches the hearts of people?" What the Hell?! From the very beginning Tae Kwon Do has ALWAYS been at the spiritual level!
i take TKD and i dont train it for the COLOR BELTS i train because it is fun and meeting new faces, also for the tournaments where you can test out your skills tha you have learned
I have been studying taekwondo for almost 10 years now and I look forward to going to practice everyday. However, over the years I've been sudying taekwondo I met with people who study other styles of martial arts who think taekwondo is for pussies because of all the pads we are required to wear. I was offended by all those people who said that considering THERE IS NO SUPERIOR STYLE OF MARTIAL ARTS, ONLY A SUPERIOR PRACTIONER OF THE ART! If anyone has a comment on what I was told please reply...
@darthrudious Well considering the huge false sense of security all that padding will give let alone the immensely bad habits many TKD guys develop like keeping their hands down. Yes it's pretty easy to understand that people would think TKD is a bs martial art and is for pussies. I personally have no respect for it I practiced Kyokushin and Judo both for 7yrs and now practice JKD Savate Kali, WC and Muay Thai. Those are martial arts and yes it is about the fighter but tkd guys are not fighters.
I thought of practicing TKD myself, but I changed my mind. Tae Kwon Do is too much about kicking. Not that I don't like kicking, but it shouldn't form about 80% of the art.
By the way, I heart that TKD could cause serious muscle and bone damage at a later age. Is that so?
@DoingMoar I see. But I don't think that makes TKD and efficient martial art. Of course, kicking has many many advantages, but what if you have a grappling guy or a puncher. What if someone grabs ur leg? I thought myself of taking TKD but I changed my mind because there's too much kicking it. Now I'm taking Wing Chun and Judo.
With all respect to every TKD pracitioner I say this, so don't feel offended. I think TKD is a good martial art seen on total.
@FearThisChannel Oh ho ho,I don't recommend TKD at all.Mma is probably the best combination to take in the present times. There are three phrases in combat, free movement where strikes fly around, the clinch and ground fighting.Hope your trapping and ne waza helps you out.
@DoingMoar But those three phases are not necessarily all involved. The first two are most likely, but if you're good, you take the other guy done and secure him. I think that my combination, Wing Chun and Judo, is ideal because:
@FearThisChannel But Wing Chun involves standing in a closed stance doesn't it?I have never seen many Wing Chun fighters dishing out high kicks though.Yes,I suppose it's a good choice.
@DoingMoar You're partly right about that. High kicks are a rarity in Wing Chun, but kicking is involved. However, in Wing Chun there never is a kick when the hands are doing nothing. The hands are always doing something.
I also want to remark about the closed stance. The closed standing in Wing Chun is so that the fighters are stable and not easy to get out of balance. However, wing chun fighters can, if necessary, be flexible. One of the ground rules are:
yeah its a very cool sport im from argentina and im yellow cint im very happy because taekwondo wtf its the best i kwon one is black cint itf and he is a stupid in taekowndo xD
@Kimchi227 find a different acronym for World Taekwondo Federation? Is that possible? It's been WTF since the 60's. Long before it meant "what the fuck"

@TraditionalTKD I see what you mean. A huge flaw in American grappling and MMA is they are designed as sports. Therefore there are rules. They will never (in a ring) fight more than one person at a time and on top of that there are rules about where you can strike and what locks you can do, etc. Because of this (I see this in many arts) they are inadvertently training themselves with openings.
@will20091995 Based on the kickboxers I've seen, the same scenario applies. Kickboxers are trained to fight one person. Add more people and I don't think they could do it.
@TraditionalTKD no , i think they can , not trying to act pro but they sure can i saw a kickboxer vs 4 , thx for the help :D ill start kickboxing or mma soon dont know what to pick
@will20091995 Well, don't take my word for it. See for yourself. I've yet to see a kickboxer face off against more than one person. Traditional stylists do it pretty frequently.
this kokumentary is stupid. What it says can be applied to every other kind of martial art. Ex: practicing TKD helps u strong and flexible and confident and blah blah blah. Those are the common properties of martial arts, not just TKD alone.
@quanarius ...one thing wrong with what you said, they never said its the ONLY martial arts that helps u become strong and flexible...its just telling u the benefits of tae kwon do... you shouldn't complain about a documentary like that
@quanarius Dude, open up, in this case they're talking about Taekwondo, doesn't mean that it reducing the importance of any other particular martial arts.
what's your problem anyway, can't you just enjoy the video, stop the hating
@quanarius Are you mad? You really dont know anything of martial arts! The martial arts have differents properties.. The tkd is just the strong and flexibylity
@quanarius I'm curious, when in the video did the commentator say you can ONLY gain strength, flexability and confidence through TKD ALONE? If this video was a documentry about Karate or Judo, I doubt they would make referrence to a different style.
i do teakwondo when u do it 4 like 3 years it becomes boring when u see it on tv or the internet. trust me it gets boring until u get ur black belt, which i just got
cuz there are tons of ppl that are really passionate about it...but really man, u shud pick the martial art that best defines who you are... if u even like martial arts
It is true, but you must know that you are there to go on and to develop yourself. If you train because your objective is to get to black belt, it is boring after you make it. But if you train further, you train because you are developing yourself and not for belt colours.
@RokyLee23143437 very true, agreed :) when i was alot younger my main objective was to become black belt. i made it, but things started getting boring. i was about to quit when my master told me that i have talent. i've decided to stay and go for the poomse competitions, im training for the sea games selection, i hope i get to be selected.
@RokyLee23143437 ya...Im support you...even you in wjite belt, you can be like black belt. Train because you are developing yourself. Belt colour not importance.
Well said! In my country the belt chasing trend has led to a serious decline of Tae Kwon Do skills. Nowadays wearing a black belt no longer means anything in terms of character or skill. It's sad really.
After Choi was expelled from school at age of 12 his father sent him to Mr. Han II Dong wich was his calligraph teacher. And he was also a grandmaster of traditional korean foot fighting called Taekkyon. He tought him Taekkyon. Choi was then moved to Japan to continue his study. He met a fellow Korean and he was teaching Karate. He studyed karate and become 2nd Dan owner. These techniques, together with Taek Kyon (foot techniques), were the forerunners of modern Taekwon-Do.
if you're talking about choi baedal aka mas oyama he didnt create taekwondo he created kyokushin karate. but yes he was heavily involved in taekyyeon before he created kyokushin. i was just wondering man no disrespect OSU!
I didnt know this. But i have a great respect for him and the kyokushinkai. I always wanted to train kyokushin but for political reasons only sankukai and shotokan survived in my country.Take care!
ur half right about the 8 kwans... but the thing is, they weren't JUST karate, cuz when the japanese occupied korea and banned all the native martial arts, ppl went and studied kung fu, judo, karate, etc, and brought it back to korea, and when the government had to unite all martial arts under one name, taekwondo was born.
oh, and yea... it has a LOT to do with taekkyon based on the kicks.. that's y the name "TAEKWONdo' was created instead of tae soo do
actually, they picked the name so that they can sound more "Korean" same reason Karate's spelling was changed from "china-hand" to "empty-hand" when it was introduced to Japan's main land.
I'm 2nd dan in tkd and I love it but I hate the tkd's propaganda about how it is 2k years old. IT IS NOT!!! Taekwondo's most fundamental kwan, chungdokwan was heavily influenced by shotokan karate. Also, old school masters like Jhoon Rhee admits that there were no difference between tkd and karate back then.
This is all true, most martial artists that truly study should actually study the history of their art. All martial arts have a basis somewhere else. But regardless I'm very proud to study and practice TKD.
AJeffkins you dont know my sources so stop guessing what they are... and Beto SaoPaulo you have to be kidding me... ARE YOU TELLING ME TKD CAME FROM KARATE? get the fuck out of here man... do you even know where Karate came from? you ignorant bastard. I see AJeffkins knows a lot about TKD But i have done a lot of research myself and found out that Taekkyon was 1 of the earliest forms of Taekwondo n not just from korean videos. Even the grand master was a national treasure.
go do ur research man! trying to tell me that taekkyon has nothing to do with taekwondo u have no idea. anyway i am not going to argue with an amature taekwondo fan...
Actually I have being doing taekwondo for about 30 years now, and I have actually conducted my own investigation in to the facts. I am going to guess that all your hard facts you are telling me were gathered from one or two sources; your teacher and/or the Korean propaganda. Read, listen and learn before you go spouting 'facts'.
Sorry for my english...I was in Korea and went to a few museum and library...Taekkyon is a rural game and is part of the Korean folclore, the first time the word "Taekkyon" was register in Korean lenguage was just 200 years a go...Taekkyon do not have belts, breaking, forms, step sparring, kiap, philosoph etc...also TKD dos not have a family tree older them 1946 (when the 8 Kwans originated) all 8 Masters funders of the "Kwans" were black belts in Karate including General Choi Hong He (2 Dan)...
U are correct AJeffkins...TKD came from the Japanese ocupation of Korea...TKD came from Karate, not Taekkyon, but the Koreans invented a ficticious history that TKD is 2000 years old becouse they hat the Japanese...becouse they destroyed there culture and haped 1 million of women in Korean during the invasion up to the WW2...Taekkyon is not a Martial Art, but a rural game...Taekkyon do not have forms, belts, japanese kimonos (that TKD had in the beggining)...it all came from Karate...
As much as the Koreans made unfounded statements regarding the history of their art, you should also avoid it. There is no conclusive evidence to support Taekkyon being a rural game and there actually exists evidence that it does have a combat background. Also as a point of clarification, the belt system was not copied from Karate in full truth either, Judo created the belt system used by Taekwondo and it was largely adopted from that.
I think his point was that the belt system comes from Japan.
TKD is developed from Karate, Taekkyon has not been a widely practiced martial art for almost a millennia. Taekkyon is fairly similar in style to Capoera anyway.
TKD is much more similar to and closely related to karate than to any Korean martial art.
Traditional Tae Kwon Do IS effective in street fight. The Olympic Taekwondo is not. Twenty years ago, Korean masters called Tae Kwon Do several names. Among them were Kwon Pup, Kong Soo Do, Tang Soo Do, Tae Soo Do and even Korean Karate.
korean masters called taekwondo ..karate? taekwondo was created for the sole purpose of giving korea a sense of national identity due to korean customs being forbidden by the japanese occupiers. (including all korean martial arts). the extent of the japanese rule even forbid korean language being taught to korean children at school. there is absolutely no way koreans would have called it karate
you're too blind to read the comment , you stupid piece of shit
it's you whose the real mother fucker son of a bitch , like the little bitch your mother is ....... i have respect but i don't need to respect you !!l

StormbringerStudios 5 months ago 2
@StormbringerStudios And yet many MMA guys are convinced traditional arts such as what you mentioned do not work or are useless.

@TraditionalTKD what about a kickboxer :P
will20091995 4 months ago
@will20091995 Based on the kickboxers I've seen, the same scenario applies. Kickboxers are trained to fight one person. Add more people and I don't think they could do it.
TraditionalTKD 4 months ago
@TraditionalTKD no , i think they can , not trying to act pro but they sure can i saw a kickboxer vs 4 , thx for the help :D ill start kickboxing or mma soon dont know what to pick
will20091995 4 months ago
@will20091995 Well, don't take my word for it. See for yourself. I've yet to see a kickboxer face off against more than one person. Traditional stylists do it pretty frequently.
TraditionalTKD 4 months ago
@TraditionalTKD true , i might take kickboxing 80 % now , you helped a lot thx :)

this kokumentary is stupid. What it says can be applied to every other kind of martial art. Ex: practicing TKD helps u strong and flexible and confident and blah blah blah. Those are the common properties of martial arts, not just TKD alone.

700 000 000 blah blah :D
tyranus11 2 years ago
@quanarius ...one thing wrong with what you said, they never said its the ONLY martial arts that helps u become strong and flexible...its just telling u the benefits of tae kwon do... you shouldn't complain about a documentary like that
Daihee 1 year ago 2
@quanarius Dude, open up, in this case they're talking about Taekwondo, doesn't mean that it reducing the importance of any other particular martial arts.
what's your problem anyway, can't you just enjoy the video, stop the hating
steveakfr 1 year ago
@quanarius
But it isnt wrong either :)
obi89 1 year ago
@quanarius Are you mad? You really dont know anything of martial arts! The martial arts have differents properties.. The tkd is just the strong and flexibylity
patulastico 1 year ago
@quanarius I'm curious, when in the video did the commentator say you can ONLY gain strength, flexability and confidence through TKD ALONE? If this video was a documentry about Karate or Judo, I doubt they would make referrence to a different style.
darthrudious 1 year ago
@quanarius Can also be applied to every other kind of sport in general:
Gymnastics keeps u strong and flexible and confident.
Ballet, albeit not a sport, keeps you strong and flexible and confident
Competitive eating keeps your mandibles strong, stomach flexible, and confidence high...until you gain a lot of weight.

i do teakwondo when u do it 4 like 3 years it becomes boring when u see it on tv or the internet. trust me it gets boring until u get ur black belt, which i just got
idontlikemakingnames 2 years ago
maybe it's just not the martial art for u guy...
cuz there are tons of ppl that are really passionate about it...but really man, u shud pick the martial art that best defines who you are... if u even like martial arts
but don't hate on the other respected arts man
Honor1104 2 years ago 2
It is true, but you must know that you are there to go on and to develop yourself. If you train because your objective is to get to black belt, it is boring after you make it. But if you train further, you train because you are developing yourself and not for belt colours.
RokyLee23143437 2 years ago 21
@RokyLee23143437 very true, agreed :) when i was alot younger my main objective was to become black belt. i made it, but things started getting boring. i was about to quit when my master told me that i have talent. i've decided to stay and go for the poomse competitions, im training for the sea games selection, i hope i get to be selected.
DeathByChilli 1 year ago
@RokyLee23143437 ya...Im support you...even you in wjite belt, you can be like black belt. Train because you are developing yourself. Belt colour not importance.

@RokyLee23143437
Well said! In my country the belt chasing trend has led to a serious decline of Tae Kwon Do skills. Nowadays wearing a black belt no longer means anything in terms of character or skill. It's sad really.

Nice move. 5/5

No taken.
I am talking about the creator of Taekwondo general Choi Hong Hi.
I know about Mas Oyama and i also like Kyokushin.Take care!

AssyrianTaekwondo 2 years ago
ur half right about the 8 kwans... but the thing is, they weren't JUST karate, cuz when the japanese occupied korea and banned all the native martial arts, ppl went and studied kung fu, judo, karate, etc, and brought it back to korea, and when the government had to unite all martial arts under one name, taekwondo was born.
oh, and yea... it has a LOT to do with taekkyon based on the kicks.. that's y the name "TAEKWONdo' was created instead of tae soo do
Honor1104 2 years ago
actually, they picked the name so that they can sound more "Korean" same reason Karate's spelling was changed from "china-hand" to "empty-hand" when it was introduced to Japan's main land.
I'm 2nd dan in tkd and I love it but I hate the tkd's propaganda about how it is 2k years old. IT IS NOT!!! Taekwondo's most fundamental kwan, chungdokwan was heavily influenced by shotokan karate. Also, old school masters like Jhoon Rhee admits that there were no difference between tkd and karate back then.
shot87 2 years ago

Even the grand master was a national treasure.

kosmoss88 2 years ago
Actually I have being doing taekwondo for about 30 years now, and I have actually conducted my own investigation in to the facts. I am going to guess that all your hard facts you are telling me were gathered from one or two sources; your teacher and/or the Korean propaganda. Read, listen and learn before you go spouting 'facts'.
AJeffkins 2 years ago
Sorry for my english...I was in Korea and went to a few museum and library...Taekkyon is a rural game and is part of the Korean folclore, the first time the word "Taekkyon" was register in Korean lenguage was just 200 years a go...Taekkyon do not have belts, breaking, forms, step sparring, kiap, philosoph etc...also TKD dos not have a family tree older them 1946 (when the 8 Kwans originated) all 8 Masters funders of the "Kwans" were black belts in Karate including General Choi Hong He (2 Dan)...
BetoSaoPaulo 2 years ago
Tang soo do use more Hands. Both styles are different to each other thats why they have different names.
and if you want to talk about traditional form of taekwondo then you should be talking about Taekkyon.
kosmoss88 2 years ago
Taekkyon has nearly nothing to do with taekwondo, except Korea wanting to appear more original with their art.
AJeffkins 2 years ago 2
U are correct AJeffkins...TKD came from the Japanese ocupation of Korea...TKD came from Karate, not Taekkyon, but the Koreans invented a ficticious history that TKD is 2000 years old becouse they hat the Japanese...becouse they destroyed there culture and haped 1 million of women in Korean during the invasion up to the WW2...Taekkyon is not a Martial Art, but a rural game...Taekkyon do not have forms, belts, japanese kimonos (that TKD had in the beggining)...it all came from Karate...
BetoSaoPaulo 2 years ago
As much as the Koreans made unfounded statements regarding the history of their art, you should also avoid it. There is no conclusive evidence to support Taekkyon being a rural game and there actually exists evidence that it does have a combat background. Also as a point of clarification, the belt system was not copied from Karate in full truth either, Judo created the belt system used by Taekwondo and it was largely adopted from that.
AJeffkins 2 years ago
Judo (like Karate) is Japanese...
I think his point was that the belt system comes from Japan.
TKD is developed from Karate, Taekkyon has not been a widely practiced martial art for almost a millennia. Taekkyon is fairly similar in style to Capoera anyway.
TKD is much more similar to and closely related to karate than to any Korean martial art.

yep, you learn a lot wit your hands just that a lot of it is banned in competitions so on tv and vid u dont see much
fatidus 2 years ago 3
Traditional Tae Kwon Do IS effective in street fight. The Olympic Taekwondo is not. Twenty years ago, Korean masters called Tae Kwon Do several names. Among them were Kwon Pup, Kong Soo Do, Tang Soo Do, Tae Soo Do and even Korean Karate.
Oramiu 2 years ago
I agree!!!
What we see in this clip is "bullshit tkd"...

tang soo do is diffarent to taekwondo
VincentAlucardRose 2 years ago
The only difference is Tang Soo Do has remained traditional, but both originate from the Mu Duk Kwan
deguimerautube 2 years ago
korean masters called taekwondo ..karate? taekwondo was created for the sole purpose of giving korea a sense of national identity due to korean customs being forbidden by the japanese occupiers. (including all korean martial arts). the extent of the japanese rule even forbid korean language being taught to korean children at school. there is absolutely no way koreans would have called it karate
h0rangi 2 years ago
a big part of Taekwondo training is Hosinsul (selfdefence) which uses Knees, elbows and fists alot, so yeah, if used correctly, its very effective
saftelskeren 2 years ago 4
You are talking about Hapkido, another Korean MA. Although, some Taekwondo Dojos teach Hosinsul at the black belt level.
tomlensky 2 years ago
All good taekwondo dojangs teach hosinsul from white belt onwards.
