The Taliban are majority Pashtuns thought they also have Arab and other Muslims fighters with them. They cannot and will never give a Muslim brother to a Kafir for crimes he may or may not have committed (i.e Osama). They knew they had to sacrifice there government as a result but that's what Pashtuns do, they won't back down to anyone, it's in their blood and culture (part of being a pashtun). The leader of the faithful Mullah Umar issued a statement saying they cannot be bough out. A third switched sides (mainly non-pashtuns) when the initial bombs started, a third of them died and a third of thm are left. Those that go 4 the money will be non-pashtuns who have recently joined them because they are winning. I think the Taliban will be successful in the very near future. However I don';t want them to be but that's my view as they are winning so far and haven't given up. Peace

I understand that you live in Afghanistan and have access to the internet and most likely have more understanding of your country than I do, but isn't the Taliban as much of a foreign invader as the Soviets or NATO? There are no decent photos or recordings of him (Mullah Omar), but that's not really hard to believe since the Taliban prohibits the use of western technology (except their weapons of course). By some accounts (if he is real) he wishes to live life by simple means, like Mohammed and his followers - that involves no cameras or tape recorders.

I know that the Taliban receives the majority of it's funds from it's opium exports; through ridiculous taxes. But it also receives a lot of political influence in the ISI, and thus the Pakistani military is still resistant to massive American pressure.

The US is home to 7 million Muslims. Canada has 783,800 the UK is home for 2.4 million Muslims, Australia has 340,392. Are these Muslim nations? Indonesia is 88% Muslim. Turkey is 99.8%. The young need opportunities provided by a civil society. Nation building starts with providing security. Then it moves to creating a stable economy with good jobs, a political system that fosters justice and participation, and a society where people can enjoy neighborly bonds. Afghans have little or any of this and are therefore willing to fight.
America believes that you kill enough militants and these problems go away. By the time this happens all the people are dead.

The middle east has a been a pool of resources for the western world since WW1 with the Mandate System. Islam's problem is that it associates religion with the state, and combines them as one. Its not hate for the west or other religions, as Islam's history is much more tolerant compared to that of Christianity's, their fear of materialism and non-religious life, as well as ignorance to embrace liberal values is whats wrong with Islam.
