  • Anyone know when these will be available for sale on eBay? Today is July 13, 2011.

  • Pople netter buy a digital geiger counter because you don't know how many rootgens are !!!

  • Americium-241 is primarly an alpha emitter but it's decay products decay through beta and gamma radiaion.

  • What's funny is that there's a seller on ebay that was selling this device for $44 bucks before this recent natural disaster in Japan, and after it occured, she started them off as auctions and they're selling for over $100. Dammit!

  • Just wondering, doesn't a geiger counter get contaminated after several uses?

  • @IntercityAPT The radiation source in this case is inside plastic, so it doesn't contaminate the geiger counter. The mantle has thorium dioxide powder on it which causes the mantle to glow brighly when used in the lantern, however it is slightly radioactive. Inhaling any powder should be avoided if used regularly, 'cause, well, it's radioactive.

  • hello, can you please tell me where you bought this from? i cannot find it anywhere. and i really want to buy one.

  • I bought my DRSB-01 on Ebay - it came the other day. Great little unit! Just ordering some radioactive stuff to test it with...

  • What models measure in RADs or Gray? I don't understand microseiverts much. Is there an easy conversion for mS to R or G?

  • Dude, what's that sock-like mantle? Where was it from? Some containminated zone? I don't understand!

  • Its the little bags that hang in propane lanterns. Its radioactive because the mantels used to be made with the element thorium, which is radioactive.

  • @Turan123

They are for camping lanterns. They have strontium on them (if I recall correctly)

The strontium glows a bright yellow-white when heated.

They are not dangerous at all

  • does it run on batterys?

  • no.. it runs on 10g of uranium 235..

  • @russiaboy12321

    Nope, just dreams >_>;;

I cant believe you just asked that

  • is there a way to get one of those geiger counters without useing the process of ebay?

  • Wondering, I thought americum 241 from smoke-detectors is alpha radiation? this geiger counter only detects gamma and beta radiation.

    whats right or wrong....

  • You're right that geiger counter detects Beta and Gamma but the Americium 241 is emitting Gamma, Beta and also some Alpha rays.

  • I have bought one of those on ebay and I wonder how long did it take to reseave it?

  • In my case it took no more than 2 weeks.

  • when yours came did it come through ups or usps or fedex?

  • @DarkAvenger474

    Im from Germany.

In my case its been 4 weeks now >:-x. Im still waiting for it.

    Maybe cuz of Russian holidays.

  • lol i ordered min almost a month ago the guy said normally 3 weeks.....soooo keep waiting itll come soon i got mine off of ebay too...

  • ta machine est cassée mon beau

  • Par ton commentaire je peut juger que t'as aucune idée de quoi tu parles.

  • That's cool shit and everything, but why do you want a Geiger counter?

  • I guess because I have to much money and don't know what to buy anymore...

  • cause its cool shit and everthing

  • Is the DRSB-01 still available? I've seen a lot of blogs about it. Most say they bought it on ebay for $20, but I haven't seen it up for sale recently.

  • It is probably still available. Search and ask this Ebay seller about the DRSB-01 : ANNAKOZUB. I bought mine from him. I looked and it's not listed right now but there's probably a bunch still available from him. If you can get it, go for it, you won't be dissapointed. It's sturdy, durable and much more sensitive than some paid 200-300$ for. The only thing is there's no level meter.

  • Someone told me only the red mantles were "hot". Guess not.

  • Not necessarily. Usually if they're made in China they're "hot". Also, most of the mantles are non-radioactive now and it's stated on the packaging. So if it doesn't say non-radioactive...there's a fair chance they're radioactive but again, sometimes they can be non-radioactive and not it's not stated on the packaging. I had to test different brands at the hardware shop!
