  • You guys don't know what "delicacy" means. Caviar is a delicacy. Real wasabi is a delicacy. But herring, which is eaten by people all over Europe (not just Sweden!), is an abundant fish and NOT a delicacy.

  • in holland we eat it raw like bosses

  • herring is the absolutely yummiest swedish food next to meatballs but u guys are eating salmon NOT herring! D:

  • @theundlesscakeattack They are eating surströmming. Kallax is the brand, not the fish.

  • "Swedish Delicacy" ??

wtf? It's the most disgusting thing in our nation, I don't know anyone who likes it...

  • @zekatl ilike that stuff! i am not even swedish

  • That swedish game show host probably ate it before to be on air.

  • Robert, I respect you. Well done mate!

  • You're on Långholmen!!!! I love going there to write. :D

  • @DarkBellatrix ta av dig alla dina kläder

  • @workatthefarm vad i helvete är det där om?

  • @DarkBellatrix att du ska ta av dig alla dina kläder, förstås, LÄR DIG LÄSA.

  • It might not be as bad if you got a swedish person to show you how to eat it as Jamie Oliver did.

  • evil stuff^^

  • Awesome! Top one guys! :)

  • Thing is it has a very special smell.

So you decide how you will react to its distinct smell/flavour.

If you think it will smells terrible, it will probably smell terrible.

If you got friends around who are all like "aaaw gross smells like crap!"

Then it will affect your conception of the smell, making you think its terrible.

    HAVE I MADE MY POINT?

  • it's the best fish you can eat

    sheers from sweden =)

  • @bornwithhatetojesus no...no it definitely is not!!

  • Its not a swedish delicacy, not at all, its horrible.

  • headed to stockholm in a few weeks but am DEFINITELY NOT this brave!

  • Someone opened a can of surströmming at my school and it had to be shut down for the day lol. The smell is absolutely horrible, I don't understand how people would put something like that in their mouths.

  • It doesn't taste the way it smells.

    Like, at all.

  • why? my only question, WHY?

  • The best video i have seen in the last year.

I must try it in the summer with my friends.

  • aaaaaaaahahahahahahahahh, crazy man!!!

  • smells like ass, but taste fucking good. :P

  • The taste is just abit salty

  • i love his reaction

  • Whatever some guy wrote below surströmming tastes the same as it smells.

It feels really sour and burns your lips. I have eaten it many times but if I take a big chunk I will cough and feel ill.

Eat it til you love it... pussies.

  • I grew up eating this so I don't mind the smell. Anyway, a tip when opening the can... do it under water. It lessens the smell and you won't risk getting splattered by juices.

Also, not even I likes surstromming withouth the potatoes, onion and bread.

  • 3:25 XD OHH MAAAN!!

  • lol hilarious! I know it really smell like ass!

  • i can't stop laughing

  • When you buy it from a can its not delicat... Go to a fancy restaurant, they got the real shit.

    - Proud swede

  • Close your eyes and think of england.. well.. sweden hahahaha

  • hahahaha..hilarious haha but maybe (must be)smell bad -- ;;

  • I've eaten it before It tastes better than it smells but the smell is not very strong to me unless I take a whiff. I opened the can outdoors and it attracted flies - In January.

  • Jävla fjollor... It is not a delecacy. Fermenting was just a way of preserving fish due to a lack of salt. And it doesn't taste as bad as it smells.

  • The smell is horrific but it tastes nothing like the smell.. it has a salty , and ONLY salty taste.

  • @kennymertzi

well, isnt it easier to ear other salty foods then?

    logic..

  • I wanna try it once.

  • LOL wow the whole entire time I was gagging like you. Anything fermented can't be good. What did you think after you had it??

  • lol, chickens:-D well, atleast they tried to eat some surströmming. Tastes good imo.

  • The maker is my teacher in "Rörlig bild"

(moving picture - directly translated, animating and such)

  • Bad idea to let go of his nose.

  • lol i just saw this on the graham norton show and i HAD to look it up! it is most amusing XD

  • ha...me too. big up to the graham norton show. and big up to you lads.

  • indeed, my friend....indeed...

  • lol same here i just saw the episode last nit

  • what exactly is it?

  • fermented herring...

i did survive to the smell of it, but couldn't eat it

I never thought something could smell like this!!

  • we love you too ^^

  • new mission for the Jackass!

  • That looks deadly...

    XD

  • lol...you guys are soo brave

  • Two guys, one can

  • and a fight for power! Who will win?

  • I'm swedish and once came across that stuff when i was like 10. A friends parents we're eating it one summer. The stench was in the whole house, disgusting. I would never eat it and don't ever want to coem near it again. :P

  • Yup yup!^^

  • You are really a great sport, sir! My goodness, that looks truly horrid.

  • Hilarious video. You are very brave men.

  • Well I'm from stockholm and first of all, they picked the ugliest view of it, and the worst weather to film stockholm, second, most swedes have never eaten that stuff (i sure have not). I think I have to try and smell it right after I try live scorpions dipped in chocolate sauce, lol :)

  • yea, graham norton also

  • I watched Graham norton the other night and he mentioned you had put it on youtube. I had to take a peek. You are all mad to smell it once and then go back to smell it again. my god thats just funny sick. Best and funniest is the guy who had to smell in on Grahame norton show. LOL it was classic. he he. poor guy.

  • i saw you on gramham norton show 2 tht 1 was sooo funny

  • Saw you on Graham Norton :P I'm so going to buy some one day great video dude.

  • this was awesome!!!!

  • I saw this on the Graham Norton show, I'm really tempted to give that a go now!

  • Same as the post below, I also watched the Graham Norton show! Some of the comments for this video are mint.

  • i had 2 check this vid out after watching the graham norton show!! I want to taste it to find out how bad it really is!!

  • that was hilarious

  • Saw this on the Graham Norton show - can't believe you actually put that fish in your mouth! Seriously though, absolutely hilarious. The first in a series maybe?

  • den ska ligga mellan två tunnbröd med potatis,rödlök och en jävla massa smör ;)

Och förstås inte mjölk på bordet!

  • hahah!

  • i live in sweden , and i dont call that a "A Swedish Delicacy" its so ugly stinking shit , never tasted that shit , it stinks allover a mile

  • I'm swedish too and I never could eat that shit, it smells awful! A good way to get rid of unwanted guests though!?

  • ah but it just smells bad. it tastes great! especially with the potatoes and stuff

  • im swedish too,

and i really cant eat that.

  • I liked surströmming when i was little

  • lol i gotta give it to the pussies in here.. the smell isnt that bad and shit smelling better than surströmming? go hang yourself! i admit it doesnt smell good but it aint bad either. its.. lets say very concentrated but not bad smelling. and the taste.. you aint a real swede until you grow to like this shit! ive liked it since i was 4 years old. and im not a "norrlänning" (well not entirely at least, (S-svall)pussies =P

  • You will need alot of snaps to eat it, its really terrible, iam swed and do not eat that. NERVER

  • HAHA Retards! You are not suppose to just eat the fish, you need potato and onion to feel the right delicacy...

  • Ni behöver inte prata engelska därför att det är bara svenskar som kollar på filmen ;)

  • Rediculous! It's not that bad at all. Sure, it smells quite much, but not that bad :) And the taste is very salty and goes great with potatoes and stuff on a flat bread. You should all try it at least once in your life! :D

  • The best harring is the pickled fried harring. Believe me it doesn't taste or smell like this one.

  • I like surströmming!

It's only pussies that act like those in the movie.

Be a man or a woman and eat at least one strömming.

  • I'm swedish and I hate that shit. I went to a "surströmmingsfest" A party where everyone eats that shit. It was bizarre, like 10 cans opened in a 2 BR apartment. THAT was a nightmare. I had one bite, almost threw up. But respect to you guys for eating it without any bread or onion with it. Hardcore.

  • Quality entertainment. The Japanese seem to like it, though! It's a challenge for the hard-core sushi eaters over there. The smell really can clear a small house in five seconds. I always get nervous when they stock up on fermented herring in the supermarket. The cans all look like they're going to explode. It's like spotting a Skunk watching you from the shelves.

  • Its really not rotten, its just jeast (spelling?) fish...

Its like he says, shit DOES smell better. Its supposed to taste a lot better than it smells tho, but whenever my family (im from sweden) eats it -which is only once a year- i cant be in the same house as them.. its so freaking horrible, the stench. =(

  • is rotten herring even edible and healthy? Oh and does it really smell like shit?

  • I live in sweden and i love it but it stink!! but how they eat it disgusting you need to eat it with potato and all that

  • I've had smoked hearing... It was disgusting!

  • Now I have to try it!

  • Here were I live (Jämtland/Sweden) we have yearly parties where you eat that... surströmming for the grownups and hamburgers for the little ones, oh! and a lot of alcohol :)

  • the smell is wors then the flavour

  • i actually thik that it's nice...

  • think*

  • hahahaha, this is sooo funny, honestly. i don't think i'll try it when i come to sweden. i even had a weird feeling in my stomach while watching this. hahaha.

  • It's still popular in parts of Nortern Sweden! Back when there wasn't always salt available, an alternative preservation method was fermentation. For some reason the tradition has survived along the coast of Northern Sweden. It's sort of an acquired taste, but those of us who do eat it think it's a delicacy. It's not just rotten fish; just as a fine wine isn't just spoiled grape juice. You really should try some!

  • It's tasty you sillies! The guys in the video - You're not SUPPOSED to go smell it like some french whatever. Eat it. With the flat bread, onions and potato and that, it's actually not that bad.

And don't worry if you don't like it, just a few of us do :)

  • As i´m living in Sweden at the moment i HAVE to try it next summer. But now i´m really scared...

But i really ask myself: Why did the swedish start to eat such crap? :-D

  • thats great, i read about surströmming today, because of the rottenflesh scandal in germany. but now i can believe how it smells..lol

  • This is funny shit, dudes! im from sweden and i can tell you the only one who eat this shit is the old timers born in like 30-40's
