I know it has been said here, but... AFAIK the glacier is not melting. It has expanded (it does so cyclically) and has reached the shore, so the ice hits the shore and breaks. That's it. I don't think there's any melting involved in this. BTW, it has nothing to do with Global Warming.

@solodred the deeper ice was under enough pressure to force the air out.... the more air that got forced out the purer the ice and the blue wave length can't make it in its so dense, so the blue gets reflected. it can get very dark when the bottom of the glacier comes up

the mass doesnt change but the volume of the water does fill a cup with water and place an ice cube into the cup so that the water level is even with the top of the rim. Let the ice cube melt and the water level will rise. Same with the oceans
your wrong dood, when you put an ice cube the water rises of course, when the cube melts the water stays the same lvl, this threat of water rising only applies to ice that is on land on not floating in the ocean
this is absolutely false - take a glass of water with ice cubes in it - mark the level and wait for the ice to melt, as long as the ice was floating in the water - when it melts it will be EXACTLY the same level - same as the oceans

Whether or not human-caused global warming exists, this is not evidence of it. Glaciers are by definition moving rivers of ice. They have always "calved," that is, they break up and melt at their bottom end. That's what a glacier DOES!

Who is calling this "fake"? You cannot induce a glacier to calve. I know--I have been in the field as a glacial-seismologist, and I WANTED to make some ice calve so that I could characterize it's seismicity. The amount of mass you are taking about is unreal.

The ice grows across the lake at 1 meter per day creating a dam wall,then the pressure of the rising lake eventually cracks the ice creating an outflow! Incredible! @solodred the deeper ice was under enough pressure to force the air out.... the more air that got forced out the purer the ice and the blue wave length can't make it in its so dense, so the blue gets reflected. it can get very dark when the bottom of the glacier comes up

This spectacular event has nothing to do with global warming. The glacier advances over the years and cuts the lake in half. The water builds up on one side until the pressure eventually allows it to break through.

@cal31BRIAN23 This specific glacier you are watching in the video is not retreating. This is its natural Summer melting cycle. Not all glaciers retreat because a few got a great increase in snow fall in their higher parts.

Every four years the presion of the glacier with the land (as you can see the glacier is already touching land) makes the rupture of that mm ¿tunel?. Im argentinian and this day is the most exciting in calafate (where the glacier is located) and is not that the people is claping to global warming, it´s claping to nature and it´s beautiful expressions..

Aren't calving glaciers amazing? The sounds they make and everything. The best footage I've ever seen is in a DVD called "Alaska, The Tracy Arm Experience", which can be found on Film Baby. It's available for download. Check it out! It has VERY RARE calving events.

the mass doesnt change but the volume of the water does fill a cup with water and place an ice cube into the cup so that the water level is even with the top of the rim. Let the ice cube melt and the water level will rise. Same with the oceans

this is absolutely false - take a glass of water with ice cubes in it - mark the level and wait for the ice to melt, as long as the ice was floating in the water - when it melts it will be EXACTLY the same level - same as the oceans
please do this experiment for yourself before posting false science
the only way the ocean level can change is if there is a change in ice that is on land and out of the water (greenland ie)

Whether or not human-caused global warming exists, this is not evidence of it. Glaciers are by definition moving rivers of ice. They have always "calved," that is, they break up and melt at their bottom end. That's what a glacier DOES!

Who is calling this "fake"? You cannot induce a glacier to calve. I know--I have been in the field as a glacial-seismologist, and I WANTED to make some ice calve so that I could characterize it's seismicity. The amount of mass you are taking about is unreal.

This happens every 4 years or so! I just watched a documentary on this spectical! The ice grows across the lake at 1 meter per day creating a dam wall,then the pressure of the rising lake eventually cracks the ice creating an outflow! Incredible! Its not due to global warming as speculated!!! Thankyou for posting a nice video!
