As far as I know, they use different ingredients for different kinds of wagashi..but they use I think(I'm not 100% sure)- for namagashi- sweet potatoes and beans..They kinda boil and mash them. And for higashi, I think they use different kinds of sugar..

there are different types of wagashi using different ingredients. Daifuku or mochi is one of them (rice flour with red bean paste inside).
