  • what is the point of the spiked scallops?? are they just for certain frets u prefer bending on because if the whole fret isnt scalloped then part of it will feel normal and part will feel easier to play?? i've honestly never seen spiked scallops before just normal ones like on ur bottom frets..and also what is tung oil mainly used for when it comes to guitars?

  • @cmzangetsu1993 It makes bending easier on the high frets. Plus it looks cool :P

  • when u remove the sting on a guitar, do u have to buy new strings or the old one useable?

  • 0:41 SCRATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • please respond to this: can u scallop the freta with the inlays or no?

  • @BoNeZz99

You can but you could have some problem if inlays are not deep enough....

  • That turned out amazing! I was possibly going to post a video next month on working on my DIY guitar, and I was wondering if I could use the spike scallops. (Im getting a neck like that)

  • @randomguitarstuff56

I'm totally fine with it, thanks for telling me beforehand.

  • please make a video showing hot can i add a hum-bucker in my BC rich

  • Why did you choose to scallop your fretboard? Was it just due to aesthetic purposes or does it improve playing in any way? Awezome work by the way.

  • what happens if you get tung oil on the frets? have you ever done that before?

  • May I ask what the purpose of Scaloping is?

  • lovely, just friggin lovely

  • love it! good work

  • wat are the advantages with a scalloped fret?

  • really nice inlays i though you were gonna scallop it too but good thing you didn't

  • i just scallopped my guitar :D thanks for you. got the idea from this video!! thank you very much!!!

  • nice scalloping...luither quality!!!!

  • probably a dumb question but where could I get a file like that?

  • @JYZProductions

The hardware section of a general store or an actual hardware store like Lowe's and Home Depot.

  • @DUY1337GUITAR alright thanks , any tips on getting the spike scallops? I've never seen anything like that before.

  • 4 my 1st time, mine turned out pretty well but i was hoping it would look even the slightest bit like this one....guess ill wait till im older and can learn stuff(13 Y.O.A.) :P

  • When i did the "spike" scallops on my guitar i covered the areas i didn't wanna damage with 5 layers of tape. just a tip!

  • Forgive me for asking, but shouldnt the oil not go on the frets?

Fuckin awesome job on the guitar

  • @Callanbassplayer

If you don't want a varnish on rosewood, then you wouldn't want tung oil on the frets. But I do use lemon oil to hydrate the fretboard.

  • Would that just ruin the inlays I need a few scalloped frets but I'm worried about the inlays being ruined

  • You butchered the last three scallops you did, but it actually looks pretty nice. Good work, chap.

  • @6Vital6Remains6

nah, I actually fixed it up after the vid

  • baby oil is my choice :D thanks for the tutorial

  • @CrushedJustice

that is the first time I heard that lol

  • @DUY1337GUITAR wut the thank you or the baby oil thing haha I use baby oil on my necks cause it darkens rose wood alot more

  • @CrushedJustice

    the baby oil, haha

  • @DUY1337GUITAR wells its true keeps the neck moist to prevent cracks and it makes the guitar smell like a baby :D

  • @CrushedJustice

I use lemon oil now, it makes my guitar smell like dish soap hahah

  • do you know if nitro would work for a guitar neck aswell, and also, do you have to laquer the fretboard at all or is it better if you do?

  • Hey wat file would i use to Gradually scallop the whol fretboard? like as it gets to the higher frets it gets deeper

  • I think it would feel better with out scallops tbh

  • the neck already had a truss rod in it right?

  • is this a 7 string? beautiful guitar

  • when you almost scalloped the dragon i freaked out!

  • I thought scalloped frets helped increase sustain in the notes

  • @steveo2619

    no, that wouldnt make sense

  • @DUY1337GUITAR whats the whole point then, wouldnt it feel uncomfortable. i was gona have mine scalloped on the fact that increased sustain cause thats what i was told, for the last 4 frets scalloped as you cant get as much sustain out of them compared to other sections of the fret board anyways

  • @steveo2619

Scalloped frets on the smaller frets allow you to grip the strings easier, so it makes it more convenient to bend. Instead of having your finger right on top of the string and pulling it up the fretboard, you actually push the string upward right from its side. You probably heard they get more sustain because they do ring longer when you bend them at the high frets, but scalloped frets does not mean longer sustain. It allows for effective bending and vibratos.

  • @DUY1337GUITAR that does make much sence. high fret notes normally dont ring that long so compared to normal i suppose u do end up with a little more sustain. thanks mate

  • @DUY1337GUITAR actually helps on sweepin and bendins

  • alright im gona try laquer on the neck and thanks for the help

  • do u use the tung oil as a laquer for the back of the neck

  • @fishfood45

I used tung oil, but tung oil is not a lacquer

  • What does DIY stand for?

  • do it yourself

  • wow awsomeness dude

  • I got a lot of useful tips from this video. Im not crazy about the kinda half scalloping but i can understand that you didnt wanna mess up that cool inlay. Thanks a lot for all the help. Good video.

  • Nice guitar! More coming ? : - D

  • Like your ax! I am currently scalloping my strat neck and was curious if the lemon oil would work on a maple neck as well? It sure worked well for the rosewood (im assuming that is rosewood) Cool vid and some nice product as well. have a good one!

  • dude, read the descriptions

  • when you have scalloped frets, you don't feel wood under your fingers when you play. Gives you more control over your strings. Makes certain things easier. And it can help improve your speed. A lot of shred guitarists like scalloped frets. go check out Yngwie Malmsteen. He scallops all his guitars.

  • Alright dude, I'll say this now, you are the one who's senseless. I see your comments sometimes in related videos and they are just abusive words from a sadistic and egotistical whimbag. Sometimes I can agree with you, but everytime, you just seem like a low-life douchebag.

  • agreed with duy1337 guitar

  • have you seen his comments in other videos before?

  • nah but if you think dats senseless then you have no idea about guitars...

  • @dareheaven2

And you, sir need to learn grammar and spelling. Don't mean to be a grammar but the word "dats" and the awkward structure of your sentence cause instant migraines.

  • also another question

whats your budget on this whole project

around how much do you think you will or have spent in total?

    curious

and how many hours of work this took you?

i would love to do this myself, maybe i will one day when i have enough skill patience and everything :D

  • I don't sell guitars, this project was only for fun and learning about things I love. This can take a lot of time depending on experience. I just did things bit by bit while working on school, so I did this over a long period of time. I'm waiting for christmas to come and my birthday (new years) so I can get more money and buy pickups and electronic components. The cost of making one is a lot, but buying a "saga LP guitar kit" on ebay is a good idea. Has everything except finishing supplies

  • ah i see

how much did you spend on this?

  • The body: $115

    Neck: $100

    Tremolo: $140

    Finishing supplies: $180

    New Hardware: $100

Those are just estimates, there's also $100 I spent on other stuff for the guitar, too. Buying a saga LP kit to build would be a lot cheaper because it comes with all of the parts, including hardware.

  • yeah but you dont want bad hardware, coz its propably gonna come with cheap electronics so best get the best parts :D

  • that is amazing work, looks amazing, must feel great, coz tbh on the thinner frets its harder to hold the strings so that would be a genious idea, you sell guitars such as this?

  • Exactly what are the benefits from scalloping the frets?

  • The preference in feel and change in action depending on the adjustments. Vibratos can go deeper with thinner strings, too, by pressing it.

  • I like it..... I want to see you perform at the Talent show...

  • @emrextreme lol, scallops shouldent effect the sound. at all.

these ones arnt realy noticable, but most scalloping is for the feel, when you pust down the string, you dont touch the fretboard. also makes for better bending AFAIK.

  • @metalinvalidmatt

yep, you're right. Scalloping gives the same effect as having jumbo frets too. My scallops doesn't really add anything since I use 11-50 gauge strings
