Speaking of copying, the Benelli 750 sei was a tight copy of the Honda 500-4, with 2 extra cylinders added on. The Honda pistons, valves et al could be swapped out on the sei. The CBX 1170 six introduced in 1978 is very similar in design to the 250GP design that dominated racing in the sixties, the bike shownhere.
The green plates are 250. If it's the one Redman paraded I've sat on it! I knew Ingvald Johansson, who bought it from Gerhard Heukerott, who supplied Honda with the specialist Swedish steels used in the engine. Ingvald's bike was nr 2, the very bike Redman first raced at Monza '64, causing a sensation. Very small bike, no more than a small 125, weighed a mere 220lbs? My motocross bike weighed 210! Very narrow 2.75/3.00 section tyres, how the hell they could they ride so fast in the bends?
Look at those Honda mechanics, they know they are handling engineering history. If one of those machines came up for sale i dread to think what the auction would fetch for it.
