I love this song! I've known the full song by heart since I was a little girl and I still have the lyrics hand written out hanging on my bedroom wall!!! I bring them with mr every time I move!!! This song is my life's theme song! It has so many good memories too!!! Thanks for posting this!!! It's a beautiful song to share with everyone!!!
it's really interesting to see where different people pause and draw out words, or even things out, change the pitches slighty, etc. i sing the same song at camp, but it sounds very different.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MY CAMP SUNG THIS *TEAR TEAR* I MISS IT. My girl scout camp
wow at my girl scout camp we sing this song !!! it always makes me cry at final campfire! we just have a lil different words and u have one more verse then what we sing! i love the harmony we sing that!!!!! i go camp timbercrest!
There's a harmony that goes for most of the song. It goes at the part "a pine bough for your bed", and sounds really cool. I know harmonies for most camp songs. Life of a Voyageur has amazing harmonies, too.
Thank you soooo much for posting this. I'm having some girls sing at my wedding ceremony (in the chapel at camp) and we've been looking for this and similar songs forever. Please keep posting! :)
Well, it definately wasn't written by a boy scout. I train with a Girl Scout Trainer who worked with the counselor who wrote the song. I do believe it was out east somewhere, NY sounds about right. Probably in the '70s.
This is pretty much the theme song of my life. I learned it at the best place in the world, (In my opinion) Camp Anokijig. I even memorized all five verses as well as the chorus. Ah, so many happy memories.
I'm glad everyone is enjoying my video. I don't the true origin of this song I just know we've sung it at my camp for a very long time. It may be sung with a different rhythm at other camps but the message of the song is the same and I love this song greatly.
@FreakyBunnyGirl There was a book written by brothers in the late 60's I think called "One the Loose". I think it was by Terry and Renny Russel. It has beautiful pictures and words from their travels as they hitchhiked and traveled across America. One of the brothers drowned on the journey. It is a beautiful light read about living free and with passion.
omgosh i've been looking all over for this song ! xP i sang this song at this school trip camp long ago and i found the lyrics for it. my version is a little different from yours but still all the same. ty for uploading! x]
I don't know who wrote this, but I went to GS camp back in the late 70s early 80s and we sang this song. Camp Hidden Falls, Pocono Mountans, PA. Keep posting these songs, you guys sound great!
thanks for posting this. i was trying to find the chords and it turned out we were singing it as "outdoors" instead of on the loose, which made everything a bit hard. hahaha also, we only sang the first two verses, and your melody is much better than the way i learned it.
This isn't from Glen Spey. It's from some other girl scout camp. But it was written at Glen Spey by a counsler their. So it's their like official song.
thank you so much. i love this song. we sing it every year at Camp Glen Spey where I will have you know it was written by a camp couseler who's nickname was lefty on sunset rock. This is my favorite song.
This song gets sung at CML's closing campfire, and I was C.I.T, had lost my voice, and had to lip sing. My friend and I were crying by the end so much..
