I was one of the members of the samba marching band, Lions of Batucada, who answered the call of our Director, Brian Davis, to go downtown to celebrate that night.... but we never expected anything like this! We had just stopped playing (after an hour of parading) when instantaneously, two girls started singing the Star Spangled Banner, and were soon joined by everyone within earshot. A grown man near me had tears streaming down his face as he sang. Pure unbridled joy. I'll never forget it.

ALL the bars & restaurants in downtown PDX were packed -- like the SuperBowl was going on or something. On my bus ride home, Hawthorne Blvd was one big party with people banging pots & pans like New Years Eve, cars honking and fireworks going off. I've never seen this type of reaction to an election in the US.
