i agree with the overrated comment, but Nile have created some of the best tech death if not death metal albums of all time. and about them being generic i think they're one of the more original bands out there, the Egyptian theme isnt just thrown in lyrics or a weak interlude every few songs but runs right through the music.

And yeah, it's almost nothing like what Karl played, beyond the fact that he started out by playing sweeps along a minor triad (though his was A minor) and then jumped up and down an octave at the end. That being said, Karl played sloppier than crap and it's totally different when he slows it down (though still sloppy), so yeah, this guy is probably still better than Karl... lol...

I know of people that have recorded parts literally note by note and then strung them together using protools, so you should base your opinion of his playing on what you can watch him play. i dont know... he was really sloppy in this video, and the other "betcha cant play this" but watch them play live, they dont miss one single note, and they play it all with the upmost energy, AND while doing vocals.
their song names are inspired by ancient egyptian religious practices. the papyrus song stems from scholors sending their servants to harvest papyrus, but since it grew in marshlands where crocodiles lived the servannts were afraid to go there. so they would give them a papyrus scroll with a "spell" to protect them (the spell being the lyrics of the song). also ive been to many nile shows and im never disappointed.
Even though that isn't as fast as Karl's it certainly sounds like 10 times better cuz its at a speed that I can actually here what the arpeggios sound like and yours sound pretty good.
Karl's sounds so dirty because of the EXTREMELY HI TREBLE/ULTRA LOW BASS/NON EXISTING MIDTONES distorsion he uses
And I think that not beeing able to hear what the arpegio sounds like is part of the joke. The idea is that the arpegio should sound like a "whiplash", not really like notes.

Dude I think if Nile sweep picked well it wouldn't sound like Nile. Karl doesn't need to play this. Just like SRV doesnt need to speed pick 32nd notes at 270 bpm. Those are some good sweeps but it could definitely be more musical but it sounds improvised so whatevs. Good job, you could probably have a future in a power metal band.

And yeah, it's almost nothing like what Karl played, beyond the fact that he started out by playing sweeps along a minor triad (though his was A minor) and then jumped up and down an octave at the end. That being said, Karl played sloppier than crap and it's totally different when he slows it down (though still sloppy), so yeah, this guy is probably still better than Karl... lol...

DSCGLFR00, it's actually extremely simple. Each one of these represents a sweep: C# minor, C# minor starting from E (assuming the C in there is a missed note), C# minor starting from G#, C# minor, C# minor, C# minor starting on G#, C# minor, C minor, A minor, G# minor, C# minor with a C on top (the 7th in a standard harmonic minor, assuming that's not a mistake) x2, C# minorx2, C# minor with a C on top, C# minor, C# minor with a C on top, C# minor, C# minor chord. That's it.

And yeah, I have to agree with winchy on this one. Those sweeps in the original sound worse than some no name kid trying to show off in guitar center... they're AMAZINGLY sloppy. And, btw, playing well on an album means nothing. I know of people that have recorded parts literally note by note and then strung them together using protools, so you should base your opinion of his playing on what you can watch him play. Don't get me wrong, I like Nile; I just don't think Karl is all that great.

their song names are inspired by ancient egyptian religious practices. the papyrus song stems from scholors sending their servants to harvest papyrus, but since it grew in marshlands where crocodiles lived the servannts were afraid to go there. so they would give them a papyrus scroll with a "spell" to protect them (the spell being the lyrics of the song). also ive been to many nile shows and im never disappointed.

Karl's sounds so dirty because of the EXTREMELY HI TREBLE/ULTRA LOW BASS/NON EXISTING MIDTONES distorsion he uses
And I think that not beeing able to hear what the arpegio sounds like is part of the joke. The idea is that the arpegio should sound like a "whiplash", not really like notes.

The alternate picking lick also was ruthlessly sloppy to add a similar effect to it?Give me a break,his and dallas's betcha cant play this things were even sloppier than the Dragonforce one,hell it was sloppier even than the god forbid one and thats saying something..There is no getting around that,may sound good in the albums but they played terribly in those videos, studio enhanced?This kid plays far better..
